What Students Say
Likes
- The college is full of plants and vegetation, the plants make it beautiful to walk around inbetween classes. Buildings are beautiful and classes are airy. Big classes compared to other colleges and a huge college overall.
- The teachers are helpful. If you only go and talk to them. Some might say the teachers are ignorant but it you approach them with an issue they will do their best to help you out. If you're facing any trouble then the teachers and the HODs and Coords
- The opportunities that this college provides has its benefits. Whenever I go upto people and say im from this college, they are impressed. Loyola college has its name. It gives you a superior feeling to be a loyolite in chennai. I am a proud loyolite
Dislikes
- The crowd. The crowd in that college is not the best to be around. If you are used to city crowd then you won't like the peope in your class. I can gurantee most of them are not from the main city and you might have trouble making friends in college.
- Language barriers. The students are mostly Tamilians and mostly the regional dialects. Most of them are from villages and towns and you might have issues bonding with them itlf you don't speak fluent level Tamil. I have had problems since the start.
- Teachers are Tamil sepakers too. Most of the teachers in my dept. sepak in Tamil. That is understandable as more than 70 percent students in my class have trouble even conversing in English. Poor experience from my side as I'm not a flurnt Tamil spea
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is pretty chill. But it has its flaws. The bca course that imdoing is good and has a great curriculum but the theory to practical ratio is too high. We only have a single practical subject while theory subjects are crammed in. Too many subjects that are absolutely a waste of time, again in my opinion. We have three language classes English Hindi and Tamil in our second year which is just a waste of time and effort. Theory classes are not the best as the teachers have no knack of teaching while some of them are good others are just doing it for the sake of teaching. But provide you with materials that will help you to only PASS the exam so not complaining. The curriculum is really outdated. THey make us use programs from 1990 like c programming with the basic ass program that doesnt even let you use the mouse. So annoying. Even a program like rdbms which youd think is a modern coding language were using software from 2010. our curriculum is basically what THE FUCKING 2000's kids were supposed to learn and get high paying jobs but THIS IS NOT 2005! Make us learn something that is actually going to be useful in life. If god forbid you pass out with decent marks, all you are going to get is a 3LPA salary if you have basic ass skills that these college faculties are teaching you with absolutely zero interest. I recently spoke to a first year of my college BCA and thankfully they are being taught python in the first semester itself. They are improving drastically compared to when we were in our first semesrter and were taught HTML and CSS for web development in 2023! THe course NEEDS TO BE RENEWED FOR THE MODERN CHANGES IN THE CODING FIELDS. If you wish to actually succeed with a GOOD salary the teachers themselves recommend you to study courses from outside college with certifications to gurantee you a decent payment once you leave college. The practical teachers are fabulous in BCA department and I have had good experiences with every semester
Internships Opportunities
THe internship opportunitnes are the best thing about this college. Everyone in this college that is here for studies has mostly joined for only this. The college has a good reputation for giving students great internships and opportunities that you will get OUTSIDE this college. THe college's name has made it the way it is. The internship opportunities are good. The projects that are assigned to you in third year is compulsary and you will be given projects according to your skill level. 3rd year is where the real opportunities begin. If you have made it in this college until 3rd year, you reap the benefits. You are given more importance as a student and are more actively participating in all the events. You will be coinducting projects and events and you will be given responsibilites. The internships are given to everyone compulsarily by the college and that is the best part aboutit. Everynone is given a chance no matter their skill level or experience. that is what i love about this college that it gives opportunities to everyone . Tat is the best part about this college. I would like to say that the projects they give and the internsiphs they provice is what gives weightage to your resume along with the bradnd of loyola college in your degree. if you are a loyolite your advantage is already there. IF you are from loyola college do not consider leaving this opportunitniy as only a select few students are given this opportuninty. People are dying to get into this college because of its reputation and brand. COnsider joining this college despite all the hate because it is worth it. Its not simply that students from this college are going new places. THey are being given opportunities outside because thyeyre loyolites. I would like to say that internships are given to those who ask for them. If you have a college email then you wil lsee regular emails informing you about internships that are open to you and you will be given internships in 3rd year compulsary
Placement Experience
Placements are BEST IN Loyola college. If you're looking for decent placements, Loyola. Ollege is the college to go itoo. Placements are the only reason I joined this college. Helps with a good career. Placement opportunities are amazing I know people who got upto 50 lakhs in top companies and avg placements for avg students can go upto 4 5 lakhs pa. HCL, Infosys, etc are some companies that are known to come to Loyola college to look for their top students. They provide students will good placement opportunities especially if you're an above average student. Most of the students get placed in Loyola. About 80% of them go out with decent jobs after college. My plans after degree are getting decent placements and working for a while then going to opt for masters in some prestigious institution outside or inside India. Hoping for the best. But mostly opting to get placed outside my city. Percentage of students getting the placement is high but if you are looking to pursue a higher education in the course, then there is no scope for you in the placements department because if you get placed by a complany in loyola college, then they wont let you leave until you sign up a document stating that you will work with the company for the next 2-3 years. And then you wil lbe stuck working for a long time wich is not what i want to do. I dont know about others but i want to work for atleast 1 year as an intern part time in some good company to get my work experience and then do my further studies in some place outside of india hopefully from some reputed university. I want to get my degree along with one or 2 internships and active participation in projecst. To be fair, If you ARE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN DOING SOMETHING FOR THE COLLEGE, THE FACULTY WIL LASSIGN PRACTICAL PROJECTS TO YOU IF YOU APPROACH THEM IN A GOOD WAY. I will give them that, some faculty are actually friendly and are willing to see you flourish. IF YOU ASK FOR HELP, YOU WILL BE HELPED By the FACULTY
Fees and Financial Aid
I am from shift II so our fees is a little higher than the shift I students. opted for the II shift as they didn't have BCA in the morning shift. The fees structure is around 52000 per semester and I don't have any idea about the sc st categories. Batchmates also have the same fees structure as me and they're from the general category and i don't have much clue about their fees. They have merits and scholarships for students that have scored incredibly good marks in the commerce department and I have a few friends who were given scholarships of upto 80% for their performance. But there are opportunities given to only a few students out of all of them. You are given special preference if you are from the Christian community which is understandable as it's a Christian College and focuses moreon christians. But i feel students of every religion must be given equal opportunities as it's 2024 and India can be called a secular counry. All i would like to say is college life is a mess, I dont have great friends. they also paid donation fees to get in. The fee structire is uttlerly bad. I dont think they should take enough fees for so mych if they are not even providing the bare minimum for the students studing in their exteemed college. I feel that their fees is too high for my course and i dont thin kthey should take so much fees. I would also like to say that their fee sturucture is different based on different courses. I understand that but the computer department is the worst dept in the college and i cant gurantee that. because theeevens they conduct are so bnad and do not hepl the students in learning any thing at all. MY dad would sxay that it is a good investment but im telling you all that this college is not for you if you are actually hoping to have fun and study at the same time because the students here are either great if you are only here to have fun or only study but if you want to do something balanced then you will be dissappointed just like me
Campus Life
THere are a few events that are contudcete in college but most of them are of no use to students that are more focused on technical events and want to meet new people gfrom other colleges. If you are lookin to have some exposure to students from a variety of different colleges, I suggest you go to other colleges where they actually conduct proper events like block and tackle, debates, speaking, etc. Loyola college doesnt conduct any particular events but is known for ovations where they call famous actors and actresses and have a big event but its not that technical anf is not open for all. Overall expeirene: closed off to only loyola college students. The facilities provided by loyola college are not that great either . The books are not of good quality and are not maintained well the classrooms have only 4 fans but good lighting. the heat of chennai is not bearable especially during the morning college. There are 60 students in class but only 4 fans that are barely working. the restrooms and batherooms stink. They are not enough for the vast student population and they are not maintained. you will often find nicotine and tobacco in the bathroom floors and the experience when you want to use the bathroom is unpleasnt. sports is interesting. If you are interested in sports in your college then you have good scope. Join it. but other extracurricular activities are of no use. If you are interested in filmmaking or videogreapyh then visocom dept is great for you but otherwise i wouldnt recommend joining this college. Student run social groups are not to be heard of. Even if there are some, the communication is just not there. Any events being conducted in our own college are not informed to us by the students incharge and there is a lot of political drama happening during these events. Clubs in college are also of not any particular help. There are only a select few clubs if you are lucky you get into them but all the students apply for them and its based on luc
Hostel Facilities
THe rooms are small and the hostellers are usually given much freedom. If you follow all the rules you have a good campus life other than that you are not really given much. The food in the hostel is so bad. The gravies are watery and the chapatis are stiff. you are given the option of vegetarian and nonvegetarian meals and both are equally bad.
Admission
Applied to 4 colleges and got into all of them. Loyola college Srm college - willing to provide scholarship or upto 50% VIT vellore - got into a course but outside chennai so parents didn't let And DGV - got a better opportunity so chose that over dgv Chose this college again ONLY for the placements and its reputation. Education quality is the same or some might say poorer than other colleges. Even though they claim to have better teachers here, I disagree. I have friends who have been provided with better opportunities with more practical subjects. Admission process is the biggest pain. Eligibility is okay if you belong to the Christian community. Otherwise you must have a good network among college officials to get a decent chance among the others. Either that or you must have an exceptionally high performance in your studies to even be considered getting admitted into this college. Would rate the admission process the least out of all the categories. A solid 1. Lucky. I genuinely thought I wouldnt get ibnto college and was actually not even sad! I kid you not I was happy that our admission process was not going through but then one day I get a call saying I have been admitted into loyola college. Even though THE ELIGIBILITY AND ACCEPTANCE RATE IS LOW, NOT EVERYONE IS HAVING FUN IN COLLEGE. IF you are going to LOYOLA COLLEGE For the studies part, choose commerce. OR ENGLISH. or anything other than computer science and viscom. BEcause those 2 departments are the worst. IF you are trying to apply to this college, Make sure you get into the shift I because the crowd there is more decent and the teachers are affiliated with the govt. So they teach the students with more interest as they are being paid by the government. No i didnt get rejected BY A SINGLE college i applied to. I applied to three colleges, VIT, SRM, and LOYOLA. SRM were ready to admit me the moment i spoke to them and showed them my 12th marks . THey were willing to give me a cutoff from fee
Faculty
Very approachable faculties if you are smart and know how to approach them. They're friendly and will help you out if they like you. Most of them are friendly and won't have a grudge against you if you didn't do anything to piss them off. Faculty to student ratio is actually very small. There are only around 50 - 60 faculties per dept in shift II. ALSO depends on the department you are in. Overall experience with faculties is a 5.6. They speak intamil and that is the problem I face. But they are all English speakers and understand when I go approach them in English. There are 3 exams per semester. Cia 1 CIA 2 AND THE semester exam. They are mediocre. If you are good in studies you shouldn't have a provlem in writing them but also depends on the faculty and the subject. Overall exam writing experience is 6 Faculties can be better and more energetic as they take classes as some of them are just lazy and unexcited. Beats the purpose of having good faculties, whole class feels dull and uninterested. we have so many exams compared to my friends outside of chennai. They put constant pressure on us during the whole semester. They ask us to write one exam then 2 weeks later they ask us to write another,. THis is so bad and then they give us assignments for internals that they dont even put with equality. If the teacher likes you theres good chance that they will pass you. THankfully i am in the good books of the teachers but i have a friend who the teacher failed on purpose because he didnt like him. In the SEMESTER exam. I suggest you be in the good books of the teachers if you decide that one day you want to sign up for the trauma by joiningthis college. THe students in my course are really not interested in doing anything in their life. Most of them are jsut here because they got the admission in some random course that thet were assignmed during the admission pro cesss. 50% of the students dont even know how to write basic code that is being taught.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Computer Applications [BCA]
Because the college is known for many malpractices and found a better opportunity in Loyola college. Also my dad wanted to send me to Loyola college so I just went with his choice.
