Course Curriculum Overview
First of all the Bachelor's of Commerce course is by far one of the most common courses in India. Also this course offers a whole overview of all the aspects of Commerce and related areas. I chose this course in this college due to the new policy of conducting exam twice every semester every year. This way not only the students will be engaged in the course but also they will score great marks. The course surely prepares you for the real world applications. The faculties also teach using real life examples and how you can implement theory in practical life. Even though the curriculum provides of real life applications, it should increase its scope and not restrict itself to the theoretical knowledge. The exams are conducted twice every year. There are internals or half yearly exams conducted by the college and externals or university exams conducted by the university, each conducted twice a year. The difficulty level is moderate of these exams.
Internships Opportunities
The college has hired a company recently that looks after all the internship and hiring opportunities for the students. The company name is Poornatah and is well established in digital marketing area. They provide internships in various areas and offer stipends of 10-15k per month. Other than that, the college does not provide any internships of their own or any other company.
Fees and Financial Aid
Bachelor's of Commerce course at St. John's College is extremely affordable. The annual fees is just Rs. 4990. Other than that, Rs. 250 goes to the Commerce Association established to provide a great experience to the college students and also to issue Identity Cards to every student each year. The fees varies according to the course. However, almost all the courses have similar fees in this college as it's a Government College. The college also provides scholarships to students and many apply for it as well. You need to have a good merit to avail scholarships.
Campus Life
The collegs holds several types of events and festivals throughout the year. The Annual Sports Meet is held once a year where students from all over the college takes part in various sports and activities. There is also an Annual Youth Festival where competitions related to music, dance, art, and literary activities. Moreover, the college's Foundation Day is celebrated on December 16th every year which showcases the cultural activities of the college. The Central Library of the college holds a wide variety of books ranging from academics to fictional and non-fiction. You can sit and read or rent or issue a book easily. The classrooms have been recently upgraded and now includes smart whiteboards and also a projector which makes study even more fun. The college offers tons of sports and co curricular activities and conducts competitions throughout the year in football, basketball, cricket, music, dance, rangoli, kho kho and many other. Students make their own groups to interact in class
Admission
I applied to the 3 topmost colleges in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. All 3 were old well established colleges in Agra. I got selected in all 3 colleges but chose St. John's College due to its repute all over the city. St. John's College ranks number one among the colleges in Agra which was enough for me to go for this college. I did not get rejection from any college, in fact I got selected in all three based merely on my merit. The admission process in my college is very easy. You simple fill out the application form on their web portal filling in all the required details. Then you wait for the college to release merit lists. If your name appears in any of the lists you are called to the college for documents verification and admission purposes. The cut-off in my college is 80% for General, 75% for OBC, 70% for SC and 65% for ST.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is by far appropriate. Every faculty gives time to students by being very friendly and explain the topics in a proper manner. Also, the faculties are always there to solve any doubts of the students. They are always available in the staff room during college hours. The faculty I liked the most is Dr. Sanjeev Saxena. I cannot thank him enough for his support towards me and towards all the other students. If you have any problem at all in college, he's always there to help and is very friendly. The faculty I didn't like was Mr. Devansh who taught us E-Commerce subject because of his careless behaviour and attitude towards the students. He left class a couple of times and complained the students are not nice. The college, under the guidelines of the university, conducts exams twice a year. The course is of 3 years divided into 6 semesters. The exams are conducted after each semester twice a year, other than the internals.
