What Students Say?
Likes
- Strict discipline - College has discipline like the kind observed in convent schools. This is an area that is uncompromised. There's strict security at the gate. Students are required to dress up in their respective department uniforms.
- Facilities for sports and extracurricular activities - there are facilities for various outdoor and indoor sports. College fest is amazing. There's drama club , reading club and others. Youth parliament is organised. Seminars are held.
Dislikes
- Absence of a political student union - we only have a student council which is completely apolitical
- Super strict rules regarding attendance. It's difficult to even attend other college fests if you've taken prior leaves. There's 5 marks alloted to each paper with respect to attendance. Below 75% attendance and you fail the paper.
Course Curriculum Overview
This course mostly includes literature in the core papers. It has a certain depth to it as it includes not just British literature but also Indian literature in english and other languages (translated), African literature, dalit literature, etc. It has different elective papers in different semesters which include environment studies, linguistics, translation, mass communication, literary theory( post structuralism, feminism, Marxism, ecocriticism , etc) and others. The syllabus is perfect as per the needs of today's world. Everything that's being taught in the bachelor's forms a major part of the syllabus of different exams like English literature and language papers or optional papers in exams such as UPSC CSE Mains, state exams and UGC NET of course. The syllabus and teaching methods according to me are already good and don't need any changes as of now. Each semester has mid semester exams and final exams and are moderate to difficult.

Campus Life
The annual college fest is called Xavier Utsav. It's usually held around Jan-Feb. It's a 3-4 days affair. Various cultural programmes are organised by the students. It has various competitions such as cultural dance, street dance, face painting, rangoli making , hot seat, poetry writing in English and Hindi, creative writing, debates, cooking competition, quiz competition etc. Rock shows are organised. We also have ghazal nights. We have a vibrant club environment. We have a drama club called Abhivyakti. It has some of the most amazing people in it. Auditions are held for those interested in it. We have a reading/literature club. There's NSS, NCC and other organisations. We have a film making club called Rogue productions. They make short films , you can check out their YouTube channel. Youth parliament is also organised. There's a rich college library apart from the different department libraries. We have inter department sports competitions for both indoor and outdoor sports.
Admission
This was the only college I could apply for as pursuing this course was a last moment decision for me due to my family who wanted me to pursue Btech. There's a certain minimum criteria marks of 60% to appear for the entrance test organised by the college. The difficulty level of the exam is somewhat equivalent to that of the International English Olympiad. The college does not conduct any interviews for admission after the entrance tests. The entrance test score solely determines the admission possibility. There are no direct admissions no matter how high a percentage one has in the 12th board exams.
Faculty
The student to faculty ratio is roughly 10:1. English department has friendly and highly qualified faculty. Teachers and processors are very approachable and knowledgeable. Each and every teacher is amazing but Achal Sinha Sir is the best person in the entire department. Some of the best ones have unfortunately retired now like Sir S.N Bose. Young professors like Sachin Mishra Sir and Ananya Bose Ma'am are equally capable. Every semester has different number of exams. There are mid semester exams and final semester exams. The syllabus needs a student to work hard throughout the semester. If one is regular and sincere throughout the semester, it's relatively easy as compared to the Bsc courses. The course syllabus is as per the UGC guidelines.
