Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Chemical Engineering. This is an interesting course as it is a very versatile course. All industries have something or the other related to chemical engineering. It is often a myth to compare Chemistry to Chemical Engineering, as these two are totally different. Exams are divided into 20 Mids, 10-10 Internals and 50 marks final paper. Papers are moderately difficult depending upon preparation, and since SGGS is an autonomous institute, the professors only ask questions based on the curriculum they have covered.
Internships Opportunities
I applied at Thermax Ltd and Alfa Lval Pvt LTd during my second and third year. We can apply for internships through our department or the Training and placement cell. The main objective of these internships is to understand the theory that is being practically applied in the real world.
Fees and Financial Aid
As im a general open category student, my fees for the academic year was 83000 and hostel fees of 39000 per i.e totalling to roughly 1.2 lakhs per year as this is a Government Engineering college. Other category students do have benefit on tution fees. OBC pay 40000 instead of 83000 rupees per year. I am unfamiliar with the exact details of the other fees but they are available in the college website sggs.ac.in.
Campus Life
College infrastructure is good. It is a green campus. We have several clubs in the college both technical and cultural and we encourage freshers to join in order to enjoy their college life. There are certain restrictions regarding timing and often due to the fact that the locals are a bit orthodox. Hostel life is absolutely fantastic, you end up making friends who will stay with you beyond your college time. Annually we have three important events- Pragyaa- technical fest, Utsav- Cultural fest and Zenith- State level sports competition.
Hostel Facilities
First years get Nandgiri Hostel while from Second year to final year, the students live in a different hostel called Sahyadri. Each room has its own washroom and maximum 3 people stay in one room. Mess is run by students. Hostel application is usually provided in student emails where they can apply. Selection happens through CGPA for college students and for freshers, their MHT-CET score. We have 24 water supply, electricity, washing machine and hot water. Clean RO water is available in the hostel for students. Mess food will not definitely be like home food but it is tolerable.
Admission
The admission process takes place through MHT-CET exam. You need to apply through the mahacet.org website. The registrations usually begin from March and the exam takes place in end of April or early May as College academic year usually begins from August so they require to complete the counselling process within two-three weeks.
