Remarks
Good remark, Got a few good friends. Bad remarks. Everything about this college is horrible. Unless you are so stupid to choose this college either our of recommendation or through positive feedback about the college, I'd suggest you choose a better one. Humble advice, don't fall for their marketing tactics.
Entrance Preview
College didn't require any entrance exam. Came to know about Instrumentation department the day before counseling and chose this college because it had seats left, was close to my house and boy did that lady in the counseling booth market it pretty good.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course structure follows the Anna University's standard pattern. Course curriculum was as intended for the EIE department and was solid in building the basics. However, the implementation of it was totally messed up by this institution. There is no talk about research whatsoever even though students approach the faculty for help. Overall, it was not good considering the way the institution advertises themselves
Internships Opportunities
No college does not provide internship of their own nor do they provide recommendation letters to students who wish to do some. I went for an internship in my summer holiday through a family member's recommendation because my department wouldn't give me any recommendation letter. Later during the semester after the holidays my department found out that I went for an internship and got a certificate, they demanded that I give them the certificate for a department achievement record. When I refused they said they wouldn't give my name under placement recommendation list. This made me upset and shows how fame hungry they are despite not helping even a little. Since I did my internship before my third year, the company didn't offer any stipend since their policy was to pay only final year student, however the overall experience was worthwhile and there were a lot of things I learnt from there.
Placement Experience
The college has a placement officer and a scheme to help students get ready for aptitude exams. However it is totally up to the student's skills that would get them placed. In my batch, no core company came to recruit and all who got a core job went for an interview on their own. Regarding IT companies there were a few companies that came but none of them were the frequently heard MNCs. However there were quite a few BPOs that recruited engineers to work in call centers. Regarding the scheme to prepare for the aptitude exams, everyone was forced to pay a certain amount of money to get into the scheme even though it was an optional thing for the students. Me already having a bad experience with the department, didn't want to involve myself in the scheme since I was planning to pursue higher education. When I was forced to pay I refused, they had me wait outside the principals office for two days for a letter.
College Events
There were a few in-department celebrations for Tamil and national festivals. Celebration ware not allowed and if they were, they would be outside college hours. A college symposium (so they say) happens once every two years (purely out of students money, including the prizes for events and food for the day). A college annual day happens every year which is also the most important college culturals day.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For students admitted through the Anna University's counseling program, the admission fee is all that needs to be paid to study in the college. Apart from the admission fees, a half yearly fee would be collected as breakage fee. The fees also varies depending on the cast of the student at the time of counseling, hence it is affordable. There is a management quota through which students are admitted as well. The fees is definitely expensive than the counseling admission. Since I was not a management student I do not know how much the college demands but I remember my classmates paying a lot of money.
Fees and Financial Aid
I know that student loans were available and a few of my classmates availed it. Since I did not apply for scholarships or loans I do not know any further about it.
Campus Life
Campus life for me was more of a compromise and involved a lot of sacrifice to be happy. It wasn't worth it in the end. Memories that I made with friends is all that kept me happy. We had 18 girls out of 50 in my batch and it was different for each department. The gender man to woman ratio was around 2:1, however I do not remember the college having any record of a transgender student. Culturally the college was fairly diverse and there were a few other state students in my batch. This college is not the place for extra curriculum development or any sort of worthwhile activities. If you are a person with such talents or skills, I'd suggest you expose yourself to some academy where they actually develop you more. In my experience there were little to no extra curricular exposure from college (not because they did not have any, but because permission to involve in such activities was partial on students which was not fair) and not all students were given the opportunity to involve themselves. When we asked permission to go for a symposium they allowed my team and rejected the others just because there did not score above 7.5 grade in the previous semester. This was just ridiculous.
Hostel Facilities
There are hostel facilities available for students. These are separate buildings for boys and girls. Since I am not a hosteller I do not know about the comfort or provisions in the hostel. But at the beginning of the first year I had at least 8 of my classmates in the hostel and from the second year, 7 of them shifted to rent a room outside because they did not like it in there. The college mess was sumptuous but not necessarily tasty or healthy. They had a change in catering service 2 times during my time in the college.
Alumni/Alumna
Some of the college alumni were my staff themselves and I know no further than that since they never had an alumni association or alumni meeting.
Exam Structure
Semester Exams are scheduled as per the Anna University Time table. It follows the common education system. Internal exams happens once a month which is taken as 20% of the total grade for the subjects. This institution however has a daily test in the morning where each subject is written in each day of the week. We must pay for 5 long sized note books for each subject and write a test in the first hour of the day. The questions for the exam will be given on the previous day evening and irrespective of the type of question be it theoretical, problem solving or based on some application. This is a typical Tuition center setup everyday in college and the notion of scoring good in the subject is through repetition and blank memorization. But that's not it... Everyday the test is out of 20 marks and you need 12 marks (or 4 marks in each question if there are two questions + 4 marks in 2 mark questions) to pass the test. Failing in it results in a re-test that happens after college hours that same day. This happens every day every week until semester exams. At the end of the semester, we would be required show that we had finished 16 questions in the long sized note book to get the hall ticket for the semester exams. The 16 question applied for everyone irrespective of sports quota, sick leave students and on duty students, including my pregnant classmate at the time who wasn't there for half a semester.
Admission
With the counseling number from Anna University I went to the admissions office and after paying the fees I was officially admitted. The whole procedure took half a day since there was no photocopy machine nearby the college at that time and the admission office people were slow with things.
Faculty
Out of all the faculty members that taught me only 4 of them actually had the knowledge on the subject whereas the rest of them were teaching out of need. Their need to get a 100% pass was more important than actually teaching so that everyone including low graders may learn something. I've had an entire semester have 4 faculty changes on a single subject because of some faculty fight as to who would handle the class because the previous semester all of us had passed and they wanted to get a 100% pass result too. 2 of the faculty still work there till date. I am a fairly average student and I don't ask for help unless I have some doubts I couldn't solve myself or I have questions on an application related to the subject. But whenever I ask the faculty, they would either say that they don't know, or that they would look into it and they would never talk about it again, or they would put me off saying that's not needed for you to study. If I were to rate the faculty on a scale of 1-10 the 4 faculty who actually had knowledge on the subject and helped when needed would get around 6 or 7 and the rest of them is a straight up 1.
