What Students Say
Likes
- Hostel Rooms and Facilities were good. It had good transport facilities as well
- The Faculties were also good but not all of them. Few of them followed Old style of teaching like book reading
Dislikes
- Placement facilities and T&P cell was not upto mark I would say
- The companies were not reliable and did not give joinings to the selected students
- Fees I would say was more than the worth of the college teaching and facilities
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because of the popular demand in the industry. B tech is a very popular course in UG as it gives the utmost exposure to all the engineering and Science subjects. The specialization can be studied in the last 2 years in more depth. Student ratio: 60% boys - 40% girls The faculties are really qualified and have either a Master's Degrees or PHD in their specific domain. Exams were held in a very punctual and timely manner without leading the students to wait for much. It's average I would say to pass the exam
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for placement from the 4th Year. You can get into internships from the 6th sem onwards. Companies like E-clerx, Net2source, Saint Gobain, Gyansys, Zycus, etc and the offers made were decent around. Highest Package - 4.5LPA Percentage of Placements: 64% I joined a company after my Graduation but it was not a campus placement( as I did not pursue my career in CIVIL )
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are usually the same as given in the brochure for that year but yes subsequently the fees for next coming years could be increased at a range of 5-10% depending upon the college. For The Year 2012-2016, the tuition fees were increased at a rate of 5% annually. There are multiple scholarships provided by the college, Odisha Government and as well as the district admin. Medhabruti scholarship for students having 60% or more in 10+2 were given Scholarships ranging from 10000 to 60000 per annum as per the category and reservation
Campus Life
Overall it is good culture on campus, Mix of students from different states. Annual fest: Sparkle Utmost and plenty of books available to study in the central library of the campus. You can issue the book for 30 days. Classrooms are well equipped with a projector and smart class. Sports and extra-cultural events are also encouraged and conducted every year
Hostel Facilities
There are separate hostels for every year students. Boys' and girls hostels are separate. Well equipped and 3/2 bedded rooms with table chairs and cupboards. The college provides meals 3 times a day which has timings for different years. Almost all the students could be accommodated in the hostels. It is spacious
Admission
Eligibility: 10+2 with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) with more than 50% The application form for admission purposes into B. tech course in GIET was through Odisha Joint Entrance Examination 2012. The cost of application fees was 600 rupees INR at that time. The OJEE conducts entrance once a year for UG and PG courses. The application date is usually from January to April every year and the exam is conducted in and around May/June Post IIT-JEE exam usually. The exam pattern is usually based on a 10+2 pattern and consists of a single paper only. Admission to GIET can also be done with JEE score. There are different reservation options as well depending upon different categories and you can get the concession in qualifying degree %. Also, reservation is as upon different categories and their ranks. I believe the reservation process is being misused in different states and regions of INDIA as a whole. Selected seats only should be given to the reserved categories but not more.
