Course Curriculum Overview
I choose the BIFS course over CORE as I wanted to gain finance-specific knowledge and going into core would have been including the information of all other fields as well also after all in the end we have to choose a single field where we have to make our career hence I have already chosen my area of study so got into BIFS. The student-faculty ratio is good in our batch we are having almost 8 faculties for the batch of 60 students, and GIM does a fine job in maintaining the student ratio. Most of our faculty members have almost an industry experience of more than 12 years, Phd holders and have done significant work in their area of expertise in the form of research here in GIM also professors must have opted for a research project also, coming to teaching, is really great, all the faculty members strictly follow the two communication method and hence you can expect a lot of interaction with them. In GIM grades are given out of 8 points and there are 3 trisem /year + mid sem in between
Internships Opportunities
A wide range of companies visits for SIP programs including RBI and other big firms like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Kampus analytics to name a few. Live projects based on real-time business problems are offered to students to work on and contribute to the organisation. In the BIFS program SIP is of 16-22 weeks hence the student gets to stay in the organisation for a long time as a result converting the SIP into PPO is relatively easy.
Placement Experience
So after completing 3 trisem students have to go for a Summer internship program of 16-21 weeks in the BIFS program and after that final placements are scheduled. GIM BIFS has 100% placement records for all 60 students of the batch in both SIP and final ones. The highest package in BIFS was INR 27 lakhs and the median for the batch is 14.5 Lakhs and a decent no. of students got an offer of more than 18 lakhs. Roles are offered in various domains like Risk management, Financial Analyst, and Consultant Asset management. overall companies onboard offer decent quality of roles to BIFS students. My future plan is to get a good job from college after my degree as of now.
Fees and Financial Aid
The academic fee is generally fixed and told to students at the beginning of the session only, however, the hostel and mess fee is subject to increase by 10-15% (not mandatory) apart from tuition fee and hostels you also have to take care of alumni fee and club maintenance fee for the club which you will be joining also a small amount is also required separately for IT services of the institute (in our batch it's 4500), overall I would say cost to study ratio is pretty high, if I calculate it to minute detail then each class you take at GIM will cost you around 4-5k hence its overall its on higher side. Each year college provides two types of scholarships, first one is to merit-based scholarship which depends on your academic performance in Year 1 and here complete tuition fee is waved off and the second one is need-profile based and it has a waiver upto 5lakhs, by profile I mean like doctors (not BDS), CAs for HCM and BIFS programs.
Campus Life
So when it comes to campus life it's simply great as compared to many tier 1 B schools as well, Campus is beautifully built and hostels are also good. The complete two-year course is loaded with around 15-18 major events where participation from all students can be observed and generally, it starts from the Induction ceremony followed by Lefiesta(Freshers), In terms of events GIM has done a fabulous job with a variety of events. The library in GIM is opened to students 24/7 and is well-equipped with magazines, a variety of newspapers, computers and a plethora of books and journals. In the classroom every student has their own desktop system and personal systems are not preferred by Professors, teaching is generally done through two projectors, and classroom infra is decent and has all comfort necessary for sitting for 5-6 hrs. The campus has no. of sporting facilities like a GYM, Indoor Badminton court, swimming pool, full-size football ground, basketball and volleyball courts as well.
Hostel Facilities
GIM has a residential program hence hostels are mandatory, twin sharing in year 1 and single in Yr 2. The room has a single bed, almirah, study table, and stool and has decent space sufficient for two students. Meal qualities are good in GIM mess, generally, two messes are operational for content and regular food menu. Also, the campus has a night canteen which runs after 10 pm, you can also eat there, its paid per meal and not included in the mess bill. Registration, Hostel allotment process is very smooth, Hostel is given to you on the very same day as the student before registration.
Admission
The student should have completed the undergraduate in any domain and must have given any of the competitive exams like CAT /XAT/ CMAT/ GMAT/ GRE The application form of GIM is available on their website from October onwards and goes till January, Early applicants could apply in achievers round where they can get the on-spot admission letter depending on there performance in the subsequent interview rounds. The application fee for the form will be 2655/- including all taxes and if you fill out the application form near the deadlines it can go up to 3500/-. As such no Reservation benefits are given in GIM, however for the courses like HCM, BDA, BIFS, profile-based admissions are offered to the students. Overall my experience process is pretty smooth but still, I would say that GIM adcom could conduct more pre-introductory sessions with the students who applied for the specialised courses so that they can take better decisions regarding specialised courses.
Interview Experience
My GD topic was the Future of Blockchain technology in the Indian financing system, and the cross-questioning of the interview was done on the development of blockchain tech in Indian Banking systems, the interview was of two rounds. Coming to process there are two different processes of admission in GIM, one is the regular round where you have to clear the competitive exam cut-off and sit for your interview and then based on your composite scores admission letters are rolled out, second one is through achiever round, here you have to fill the detailed application form and then you have to give a directly the PI after a shortlist of your application and depending on your performance in 2 rounds of PI you will be given on spot admission letter, but here also you need to score a mandatory score in your competitive exam which will be mentioned in your admission letter, failing in it will lead to cancellation of your spot admission offer.
