Remarks
The college is good but the student has to take initiative and create opportunities for him. The strength of the batch is 600 which is huge and I think that hampers the management and teaching quality somewhere but at the same time gives the student a opportunities to create a huge network and contacts which will help him in future. A person has to really work hard and prove himself because college won't tighten up the student that much.
Entrance Preview
I had given MBA CET Exam and I scored 84 percentile in it. I had opted this college in CAP round 1 and I got it. I could have also waited for further CAP round but I was not so confident whether I will get other better colleges like Indira or MIT. Being a Finance guy another attraction was Bloomberg Terminal. SIOM is having a Bloomberg terminal which is accessible to students, which was the major factor in my decision.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is as per University of Pune and electives are very nice like Statistical Software Labs, Financial Research subject such as technical research, equity research etc. and all subjects are linked to the Bloomberg Terminal for research purposes. In addition to this SIOM has signed a MOU with Harvard University for latest case studies which are very frequently given to students as an assignment, where research is expected to be done on bloomberg.
Internships Opportunities
Yes. The general stipend is 7000 but in my case i got 22K/month. The internships for marketing are best, followed by finance and operations.
Placement Experience
Nearly 70% are placed with avg. package of 5L. Best placements are for marketing then finance and last operations. Marketing: Tata Communications: 3.7 L, Airtel- 3.0L., ITC Hotels: 6L,etc. Finance: Deolitte: 5.6L, Tech Mahindra: 4L, L&T Infotech: 4.2L, etc. Operations: WNS GLobal: 3.6L, Syntel: 7.8L, etc.
College Events
technical events such as Hackthon, Case study solving competition, Business Plan competition (Best business plan is taken forward and investment is done by investors through newly started startup incubator in institute) , Bloomberg Championship Program, Sinhgad Karandak (Cultural), Sihgad Spectrum ( Management Games), Excel Competition, Quiz Competition, Share market investment games / simulations, etc are taken.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for FY were Rs. 1,67,000 and for second year it was 1,55,000 which i personally felt very high and not worth for money. because this excluding hostel, food and other stuff. It is heard that fess are going to get reduced but no confirmation over yet till the date.
Fees and Financial Aid
According to my knowledge there is no loan facility provided by the institute. But in second year Mahindra comes to provide scholarship to students for which they have to undergo evaluation done by Mahindra.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is 60% male 40% female. As mentioned earlier Bloomberg is the most important lab on campus followed by EXcel lab and startup incubator cell. Students come from all over the world, majority from Africa and Afghanistan and gulf countries. The status of students is average or middle class.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are in pretty bad condition and I personally won't recommend taking a hostel in the campus. It will be better to take a room and live. There is generally 3 or 4 people in one room and a common bathroom for all. Food quality is very poor and pathetic.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. the alumni network is very strong and spread across the world has more than 11,000 in the network. It does work and helps us a lot in placement guidance and placements too. Each class is been allotted with 2 alumni who guide them throughout the 2 years and further needed.
Exam Structure
There will be 4 semesters, in which 4 written exams by university, 4 online exams by university, 4 internal exams by institute and frequent internal exams were conducted. You can expect a exam a day in SIOM. Also exams for Aptitude practice, GK awareness, etc. are taken on regular basis.
Admission
I have given MBA MAHCET. The results for exam held in March was declared in April and admission process began in May. CAP round 1 was in last week of June. In CAP rounds as per my preference this college was allotted to me and then I went and took the admission. CAP rounds one of the ways one can take admission in SIOM, I have heard they also give direct admissions as well but which might cost candidate bit more amount of money.
Faculty
The faculties are very experienced and have worked in industry before. Majority of the faculty are having doctorate with extensive projects going under them where they involve the students too. Few of the faculties are also having many patents on their name and having a great network in industry too which help students to get more opportunities.
