Remarks
The admission process to get into JIPMER in the year 2019 was through JIPMER Entrance Exam. Just like AIIMS, JIPMER had its own entrance exam which was also MCQ based and was quite an interesting paper. It had English as a section as well beside Physics, Chemistry & Biology. For the eligibility in my year, in the General category, the last rank was around 200. It went up to 40 in the SC category. Application forms were available online easily, application fees were something around Rs. 1500, and dates are usually announced publicly Reservation benefits were fact there and 15 seats in each SC and ST and more seats were there for the OBC category. It was actually quite good and I don't see any necessary improvement in the admission process.
Course Curriculum Overview
This course leads to something very fruitful, i.e becoming a doctor which in itself defines the honor and dignity of the course. Being a doctor is such a beautiful process leading to such a great results. The average faculty: student ratio every year is 1:15. To add to that there are JRs and SRs who help you always. The faculties of JIPMER are extremely well qualified and they screen their faculties to the level of teaching in an Institute of National Importance. The review teaching method is quite prominent here and they take feedback from the classes often for the students' benefit. Term exams were timely despite the tough COVID situation that we went through. Passing exams at this level is of course going to be difficult but it's not impossible and certainly doable for every student in the institution if they study regularly.
Internships Opportunities
The internship is compulsory to get the medical license and also has to be done from JIPMER only. They give a monthly stipend of around Rs. 30000 during the internship. There are no company or non-JIPMER internships offered for JIPMER students.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The cost to study is quite minimal and there is no fee hike policy. The academic fees is also quite less and hostel fees are also less. I get NTSE scholarship every year for an amount of Rs. 24000. Few people are also given some sort of financial assistance with stipends by some condition.
Campus Life
There are committees and clubs run by students in JIPMER. They function under the supervision of The JIPMER Students Association which is a nearly autonomous body. The JSA also conducts Spandan (an annual fest) and Connaissance( a popular scientific fest) every year. Websites and Social media accounts of various committees and JSA as a whole are also there. The clubs and committees also conduct interclass sports and cultural activities. Overall the clubs and committees are a source of recreation and a fun time as well as support in college time.
