Remarks
VELS University is one of the leading institutes in South India. Though I was aiming for an IIM but my CAT percentile was not good enough so I got admission in VELS. You can get admission through VEE exam as well. The university is ranked 52 by The Week in 2021. It is still deemed to be a university. The admission form is to be filled online with requisite charges.
Course Curriculum Overview
If you compare the course with other B – Schools you can see our course comprises of all the modern topics which are required in today’s world. There are four semesters and in each semester you get to study different subjects. The professors are highly skilful and they imbibe such practical knowledge which is transferred to us. Case studies, discussions, industry visits, quizzes, seminars and assignments are all part of the curriculum. The exams are taken on July and December and the exams are easy to pass.
Internships Opportunities
The internship is compulsory for all the students. You can opt for on campus or off campus internships according to your choice. The things did in the internships are added up during the final project work. Companies such as HDFC Bank, IBM, TATA and others came for internships. I got the internship in TATA where I was a Business analyst. The internships are mostly paid and they offer a handsome stipend.
Placement Experience
The companies come for placements after the completion of the third semester. Special grooming classes are organized before placements. Our top recruiters are TCS, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, IFB, HCL, IBM and others. The highest package in our batch was 7 LPA while the average package offered was 5 LPA. Almost all the students who sit for placements get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
Though VELS is a private institute the charges are moderate. The annual fees are 195000 rupees approximately which sums up to 390000 rupees in two years. The scholarships are given on the basis of score in CAT where if you score above 98 percentile you get 50% concession on the tuition fees followed by 30% and 20%. Apart from that, there are scholarships for the EWS students.
Campus Life
You would experience a great South Indian culture on the campus. The students are from all over India but mostly from the south. The campus has all the facilities from the modern classrooms, digital library and sports facilities. Tech events, annual events, sports meet and various other functions are part of our daily lives. The students are given the opportunity to run various clubs which adds up to the managerial skills in students.
Hostel Facilities
You would experience the best hostel life. There are separate accommodations for boys and girls. You can get AC rooms with additional charges. Besides that, the hostels have all facilities like a gym, common room, Wi-Fi and laundry. The hostel food is good and proper hygiene is maintained all over. You would feel the value for your money invested.
Interview Experience
During our time we had a GD and PI after you get validated by your CAT score. The GD was of 10 students each where a topic was given, generally concerned to recent trends and 15 minutes was allotted to us. The PI was of 10 minutes where they asked various questions related to my personality, previous academic experience and co-curricular activities done by me. Just keeping a calm and composed mind would do the trick for the interviews.
