Entrance Preview

Actually I'm and NRI student so I didn't take any such exams. But I opted for this college as it was between this or DY Patil & somehow I ended up going for MGM.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

MGM has a great curriculum but students find out at the very ended what we really need to study. Unlike college abroad where you get the syllabus packet in the starting of the educational year, here we are stressed upon what to study last minute which I found as a huge drawback.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, MGM does provide an internship an internship program. I am currently in 4th year so I can't really explain my internship experience but overall what I have heard from seniors it's a mix of labour work to some nice learning experiences. And I have heard the stipend is somewhere around 500 rupees a month without the cutting of certain taxes.

Placement Experience

1.5

Placements & job opportunities are an obvious when your in a field of medicine. Our studies don't end hear obviously because like most I am planning to go for postgraduate. And mostly I will be doing USMLE. I know that the US based Kaplan program had come to MGM a few years back to talk about the courses they provide for students who plan on going ahead with USMLE.

College Events

1.5

Our college holds an annual fest. They are self funded mostly by students and a minimum amount is contributed by the institute itself. Mostly it consists of one week of full sports activities such as cricket, volleyball, tennis, etc & another week of other events such as saree day, traditional day, prom, dance, literature, skit performances, drawing competitions, stalls, etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't know of any loans or scholarship facilities that are offered by our college nor have I heard of any such programs.

Exam Structure

Exams are back to back during our prelims and terminals with no gaps which leave each student drained and praying to get a few hours of rest. To have exams consecutively with no gap between subjects also is a huge inconvenience for students. Colleges like DY Patil I know allow students to set up a timetable based on how they want to go about their exams. And where they want breaks in the given schedule.

Admission

My parents had to meet with one of the trustees of the college as I am an NRI student. My parents & I were asked to submit various forms & also we had to give an equivalency certificate to make sure my USA based high school marks in the specified subject needed for the MBBS course were up to the mark of Indian Standards. The administration seemed very friendly till that point.

Faculty

3

Again the faculty is by no means the worst! But again I wish they were more student friendly and more helping towards students coming from abroad. In first year I was dumped into a class with over 150 students, and no idea on how to go about studying in a whole new setup. Plus language was a barrier as most faculty preffered to speak in Marathi, which took me till third year to understand basic words.

Curriculum is highly planned and very vast. Regular revision is necessary to caver all subjects. All subjects are taught with high practical basis hence ensuring exposure and preparing for real life exposure. Teaching could be more consise and logic based. Main exams are every 2 to 3 months with difficulty slightly higher in term 2 than term 1.
