Remarks

Birla Global University was always on my list while I was looking for colleges to pursue my bachelor's degree. I was first attracted to its campus which I must say is extremely beautiful, but when I got into the university I found that the crowd was very welcoming as well! Even though BGU was established not a long time ago but it has made a lot of impacts and is still constantly continuing to do so even amidst the pandemic. BGU is in fact an undiscovered gem. The minimum score required to get into the university for the B.Com (Hons.) programme is 50%, so the admission process was quite easy for me since I had scored above the minimum requirement. I registered online for admission and submitted all the required documents for the admission formalities.

Course Curriculum Overview

Commerce stream as a whole has always excited me so I took up commerce in my 11th and 12th class. Therefore, the next step for me was to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Commerce and BGU has proven to be the right choice for the same. In BGU, the faculties are very qualified and are quite amiable. Not only do they teach the theoretical aspects but also they make us learn through practical approaches. Even when the pandemic made the teaching-learning difficult, the faculties tried to educate us about the topics by providing us with various case studies. We have got 6 semesters where each semester comprises two Mid-term tests followed by a final exam at the end of the term. Exams can be easy if one focuses and participates well in the class.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fee of the course is around 4.5 lacs for the students who don't avail of the hostel facilities which is somewhat reasonable for a professional course like B.Com (Hons.) in a private university. Per instalment, the fees come down to around 75,000-77,000 (including insurance amount) but the university also provides CAT coaching to the interested students through tie-ups with various coaching institutes.

Campus Life

5

The most fascinating thing about Birla Global University is its campus which is very clean and green. Most of the land has been kept untouched where various types of flowering plants have been planted. The library at BGU is quite large and has always got the newest books and journals in stock. Each school has got a different block of its own and all the classes are furnished with projectors, air conditioners and wi-fi connectivity. There are various clubs and conduits formed by the students which help in keeping the unity and integrity of the university intact as a whole. Though the fests are conducted annually due to the pandemic, I didn't get to experience it personally. BGU also allows the students to gain better knowledge and exposure by organising various seminars and guest lectures. The university has tried to keep everyone motivated in the pandemic by conducting various online events and webinars.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum of B.Com under Sambalpur University covers important subjects like Accounting, Business Law, Economics, Management and Taxation which are essential for future studies and careers in finance or commerce. The structure is simple to follow and helps students build a good base in theory. Semester exams are conducted on time and the difficulty level is moderate. A student who consistently studies can score well without extreme pressure. However, there is a lack of practical exposure such as industry visits, internships or real-world business case studies. Also, subjects related to modern digital business trends like data analytics, advanced Excel, and GST practicals should be included to make students more job-ready. Overall, the curriculum is relevant but needs more updates to match the current professional requirements

Placement Experience:

In our college, final-year students are eligile for campus placements. While i don't recall the specific companies that visited, one of my friends interviewed with Axis Bank and got selected with a package of around 2.4 lakh. The exact percentage of students are placed and details of average or highest packages are unclear to me, but the placements process provides opportunities of those actively seeking jobs. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue an independent career rather that seeking a traditioinal job placement.
