Course Curriculum Overview

3

The MBBS curriculum is divided into 4 yrs with 9 semesters. There are a total of 19 subjects to study. 3 in 1st year, 4 in 2nd, 3 in 3rd, and rest in 4th. Each subject has its own departments and the doctors who are in that department- professors, associate, and assistant professors, tutors teach the students. Lectures are given to 150 students together and practicals and hospital duties are taken by dividing students into various groups for better interaction. There are 2 types of exams- internal and external. Internal exams are 3 terminals which consist of theory, practical, and viva. In these 3 you've to be sent up in atleast 2 to appear for the external exam of that year. The passing mark is 50% and the sent-up is 37%. The external exam is conducted by the respective University to which the college is affiliated. For passing the year you have to pass University exams ( theory, practical, and viva) by atleast 50%. After 4th yr, there is 1 yr compulsory internship to get the degree.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internship is necessary to be done from RIMS only after completing 4yrs of MBBS. The duration of the internship is 12 months in which students are posted in each department of the hospital and learn to handle patients. only After completing the internship successfully, one can get the degree of MBBS doctor. You're posted in hospital as the INTERN DOCTOR and you thus treat the patient in the guidance of seniors and teachers. Generally, the internship is during the day, but there are night shifts as well. The pay for an internship presently is around 27,000 per month according to the 7th pay commission.

Fees and Financial Aid

The biggest perk of being in a government medical college is its low fees. In Jharkhand, all females are exempted from any tuition fees, thus there is a very minimal admission amount to be paid. (Around 1,000). For boys, the tuition fees are around (10,000) at the time of Admission. Then for appearing in the external exam of every year, there are exam fees of around 5000. Apart from these, there is a hostel fee of around 3000 per year with some extras being around,2-3k per annum.

Campus Life

3.5

There are many societies in the college like cultural, movie, literature society. The annual fest of RIMS is known as PALASH. It includes various programmes and competitions and quizzes. Singing, dancing, rangoli making, Panchayati raj debates, soap carving, poem writing, storytelling, actings, stand-up comedy, nukkad natak etc, and my most favorite one treasure hunting. There are many cash prizes along with medals and certificates and premium subscriptions of many apps. There is also the annual sports event known as PALAESTRA. Badminton, volleyball, table tennis, tug of war, kabaddi, chess, ludo, carrom, PUBG, etc. Cricket championship also happens each year but at a different time than the annual fest and sports which happened late around the year- Nov/dec. The mini-fest of RIMS is Saraswati Puja. While college is decorated like a bride shining in different colors. There is puja, Mata ka jagrata, and next day visarjan along with playing colors. festivals as holi Christmas also celebrated

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Each and every student is entitled to a RIMS hostel and a bed in MBBS RIMS. Boys get a single room from 1st yr while girls get double sharing in 1st and 2nd and get single thereafter. You are provided with a bed, table, chair, and a shelf for keeping your items. There are common washrooms and are not attached to rooms. Bulb and fan are also provided by the college. There are guards at the door of the hostel, especially the girls' hostel for safety. The registration process is very easy, just fill the form given at the time of admission and pay 3500 for 1 yr. The fooding is given to private mess in different hostels. The costs of each mess are different but on average, they cost around 2000 per month. Both vegetarian and nonvegetarian food is available in thr mess. Generally, medical students don't prefer to stay in a rented room or PG as everyone is entitled to the hostel facility.

MBBS is all about learning and exploring . Only choose this profession when you have a will to help others otherwise it would be a difficult course for you. The passing marks of examination is 50 and for that you need to study hard.

Course Curriculum Overview:

-The MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) program is a highly sought-after degree that prepares students for a career in medicine. A key aspect of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose this course is its emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. The inclusion of subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology provides a strong foundation for understanding the human body and its functions. Furthermore, the clinical rotations and internships allow students to interact directly with patients, giving invaluable hands-on experience. The curriculum is well-structured to equip students for real-world medical practice and further academic pursuits. Clinical postings in hospitals and exposure to different medical specialties enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills. The focus on research methodology also lays the groundwork for those interested in pursuing postgraduate studies or contributing to medical advancements. However, there are areas where the MBBS curriculum could improve. For instance, introducing more interactive teaching methods, such as case-based discussions and simulation labs, would better prepare students for complex clinical scenarios. Additionally, integrating modules on soft skills, such as communication and empathy, could enhance patient care. Exams are frequent, usually held at the end of each semester, with assessments ranging from theory papers to practical exams. While challenging, they are crucial for assessing a student’s knowledge and clinical aptitude. However, spreading out exams and providing more time for preparation could reduce stress and improve performance, ensuring a better learning experience overall. Cons are course length and also the difficulty level.
