Remarks

Firstly I would like to mention that from the beginning after my 12th exam, I was pretty sure that I won't be doing higher studies post graduation. This was the main reason why I have chosen the hospitality industry. Secondly, I was good at interacting with people so I thought I could shine and rise in the hotel industry as it requires good communication skills, confidence and of course hard work.

Course Curriculum Overview

Since I belong to a Hotel Management College where discipline and grooming are the two major necessities in terms of behavioural aspects. Staying in college from 9am to 6pm was a bit tough for most of the students as Hotel Management is mot only cooking food, we used to have practical classes in the morning and after lunch our theory classes were scheduled. Mostly all the hotel management colleges provide lunch for all the students and faculties. My faculties were strict and they made sure the students are in proper grooming and maintained discipline. They are the ones who taught me how to be humble and lead a disciplined life. You will enjoy your life in IHM Ahmedabad and at the same time you will get industrial exposure during the 2nd year as you will be undergoing industrial training in a five start hotel.

Internships Opportunities

During my second year it is compulsory to undergo an industrial training for 4 months in a five star hotel. I have done my industrial exposure training from Hyatt Regency, Kolkata. My stipend was 1000 per month, the stipend is basically your transport cost and nothing else but the completion and certificate really matters.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students can opt for any of the departments like Front Office, Kitchen, Food and Beverage Services, Housekeeping, Food Retail and Non Food Retail. Hotels and retail companies visited my college. Most of the students got placed but there were some students those who opted out from the campus placements as they were inclined towards higher studies.

College Events

3.5

As I have mentioned earlier, my college celebrated festivals like Holi, Lohri, Ganesh Puja, Marathi New year as well. We had seminars, food festivals. We participated in various sports tournament. Over all the campus and college life will keep you busy most of the time but at the same time you are going to enjoy every single bit of it.

Campus Life

Well, wifi was only for the faculties of the college but unofficially there were some students who had the password. The library was maintained in a good way, we could issue books and have to return it within a week. The library had computers for the students to do college work and access the Internet as well. We have a Basic Training Kitchen in our college for the First Years, Quantity Food Kitchen for the 2nd years and Advanced Training Kitchen for the Third Years. We have sports week in which the college students are divided into 4 houses and they had 4 captains, fortunately I was one of them. Apart from sports we organised festivals in college like Lohri, Holi, Ganesh puja. Our college organised food featival, seminars, etc.

Hostel Facilities

The hostel is good, you will be getting food 4times a day starting from breakfast, lunch (which is served to both the hostelites and other students), evening tea and snacks and dinner. First years stay 3 students in one room and second, third years can get rooms in 2 or alone. Overall the hostel is hygienic and much more cheaper than outside PG's and rent.
