Remarks
Inter library loan is provided to the students where they can take books available in other library other than the university. The library is always one and accessible to the students at a reasonable rate. Hostel capacity of 1000 students in each hostel is available. The course in horticulture gives valuable knowledge upon fruit science, landscaping & floriculture to students so that they choose the career path accordingly.
Course Curriculum Overview
Duration of the course is two years further divided into four semesters which again are six months long. Those students who are enrolled in the course are given lessons on seed technology, plant cultivation, bio chemistry, plant breeding etc. Subjects such as fertilizer technology, aromatic & medicinal plants, post harvest technology, plantation management, agricultural economics, floriculture, soil science engineering etc are taught over a span of two years.
Placement Experience
The job areas in this field include agriculture & forest department, food production & technology, agricultural machinery, fertilizer production units, plant breeding, plants and flower businesses, urban horticulture, manufacturing firms etc. Roles offered to students were horticulturist, pomologist, research manager, floriculturalist, seed analyst and the starting package ranges from 40,000 to 1 lpm.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Tuition fees for one year is 7500. Examination and registration charges of 4000 are to be paid separately. The total for one year is 19,100 after including all the other charges. The total for two years thus comes down to 31,300 which I feel is quite reasonable and affordable as compared to the other private college in same field.
Campus Life
Book exhibitions, Blood donation camps, heath camps, environment awareness camps are often organised by the college council. Orientation program is also conducted by the university library for freshers to familiarize them with the facilities and services provided by the college. Workshops on plant horticulture, seed structure, soil science engineering etc are regularly organised to provide student enough knowledge about the subject.
Admission
The students seeking admission needs to be a graduate in any of the following streams- BBA(Agriculture), B.sc(Horticulture/Forestry), B.sc(ABM), B.sc( Biotech/Foodtech) etc. Home science degree students can also apply to the course. The students need to appear for a entrance exam known as CET in agriculture which is conducted by MAUEB, Pune. Merit list will be prepared and you will be called by the college authorities if you fulfill the necessary criteria and granted admission.
Faculty
The teachers are very helpful and friendly. They give us knowledge about the natural sciences & horticulture sector so that we learn the concepts of medicinal plants, vegetables, flowers, fruits, grape vine etc more efficiently and effectively. Theoretical lecture, farm practices and field visits are given to students to provide a practical exposure. Overall I would mention that the teachers are very supportive and are always open to clarify any kind of queries.
