Remarks
Good:Environment: Being situated on the foot of a hill, it offers spectacular view. Fellow students: they really know the meaning of friendshipCommunication: the communications are excellent, complete with a library with internet connection and hi-tech computer lab. Some of the faculty: they are simply awesome. Bad:Management: management doesn't have any direct contact with students. Only the secretaries of the union represent the whole college who are also provided vague information, Rest of the faculty: they just simply suck. Newly employed teachers are not given training prior to coming to a class and they don't handle the class quite well.
Entrance Preview
I gave no entrance exams. i didn't appear in any. My family couldn't afford one and I couldn't afford a scholarship. I am simply not that "sharp" - on paper. Currently studying B.Sc (gen) with Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics from Birjhora Mahavidyalaya affiliated to Gauhati University.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is good, current and apt. The subjects I have taken are Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics. Apart from these, there is functional English which caters to improve the communication skills. It teaches us various accents, spelling, words, gestures from round the globe and this helps our communicational skills very much.
Internships Opportunities
No campusing or internship due to the fact that it is situated at a small city where not many companies are situated but the ex-students of our college are well established and living a happy life.
Placement Experience
No campusing is held. Since its a degree college on a small city. No companies came for campusing but as i have mentioned earlier, It is generally very good and most of the ex-stidents have been well established in various sectora with varying success. And I don't want to sound weird but money doesn't matter. Figures may not be in millions but as far as I know, everyone is happy. We faced no ragging - it was strictly prohibited. Seniors are very friendly and no one is 'narrow minded'. If a girl and a boy hangs out, nobody even bats an eye let alone joking and mockery. Overall, the learning experience is great. Future is bright if you know how to build a future. The college does its job, giving us the wealth of knowledge. The money is earned by ourselves. We go out to companies or choose to start a business/entrepreneurship. Overall, very enjoyable experience.
College Events
The college celebrates a wide array of events - from excursion trips to "swachh bharat abhiyan" and various debates and speeches. It has a plethora of such activities. Annually, a cultural week is held in January-february which showcases an wide array of culture - from western rock to our assam's local bihu, everything has its own place and none is discriminated over other. Also, every year, evey department puts up a wall magazine. Where students collaborate to showcase their knowledge about the particular subject and the walls are really informative. This creative blend with top notch syllabus makes this one of the best colleges in Bongaigaon.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is affordable. B.Sc first semester, all included is around 10, 000 per year. And 1000 registration fee and exam fee (each). This model is followed and revised every year. Overall, total graduation doesn't cost 50, 000 (including books - if you don't buy too many). And cut off marks usually hovers around the 60% mark.
Fees and Financial Aid
No loan/scholarship from college. Bank loans available. But some poor students are considered 100% every year. That depends on the department and teachers. No special exam is required for one to avail it.
Campus Life
Campus is good. I don't stay in hostel, so, can't say. Workshops are arranged by various organizations. There is a college union and NSUI. Both genders are treated equally and we are so frank that we don't even notice if that's a boy or girl reading this article.Majority of races are the Koch Rajbongshi, Assamese, Bengali and Bodo, as well as some adivasis. Won't comment on religious ratios as I believe in religious unity, not division.Everyone is tolerant againt one another. When a debate takes place, it is usually sorted in days and we don't really have long lasting enemies. I don't know about sexual orientation as most people are straight and even if homo or bisexual people are there, they don't admit. It is due to the social image of LGBT people, but we are progressive, and most of us do not find it offensive to belong to LGBT. But that's not quite normal here so, if two guy romantic partners are there, some of us would bat an eye.
Hostel Facilities
Girls hostel is available. As we learnt from them it is tolerable. I guess, boys would be fine with it. You know, girls are sometimes nitpicky about food and boys don't taste food (specially un hostel) we just eat it. So, we'd be fine with it.
Alumni/Alumna
There is an alumni network and during the college week, everyone is invited. They have a special alumni committee and they manage and invite the seniors. There have been no issues in the alumni committee either. And we do meet them yearly. Some of them do come to the college time to time. In short, the alumni community is strong. Indeed.
Exam Structure
Exams are well spread out over the year. Our college follows a semester system with semester end exams every six months. Along with this, one sessional exam follows every semester. And class tests are taken in between board exams. And surprise tests really do surprise us, we don't get to sit in surprise tests all that often. Overall, it is good. Highly maintained exam structure. Though, i am overall disappointed with exams since my birth. Exams doesn't judge skill, it judges preparation and how much one can learn. Though unorthodox papers are created I'd say its still lacking. Matter of Gauhati University though. Won't blame my college for it.
Faculty
Average at best. Some departments such as English, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics are good. Yes, of course, like any other college (as of I hear) there are some "khadoos teacher" who will insist on getting marks. But there are some teachers who are very genuine. Begum ma'am and Debabrat sir are two of the best teachers - not just in our college but I'd say in my life, They just don't care about your marks. They care about what you know and what you write and how many mistakes you make. This way, marks are earned but not enforced.
