Remarks
The college is management is way better than other government institution since it is an autonomous body. So all our requests and requirements are fulfilled sooner or later.
Course Curriculum Overview
Amongst all other medical institutions of Jharkhand, my college is best in academics. In our medical field, the main criteria for choosing the college is patient load rather than the academics. Being the premier tertiary hospital in Jharkhand, many patients come here for treatment. More patients means better clinical skills. The total course is of 5.5 years. There are 3 professional years. 1st Prof - 1 year 2nd Prof - 1.5 years 3 Prof (part A&B) - 2 years So in total there are 9 semesters There are terminal exams taken every professional year. Out of which you need to pass atleast 2 to be able to appear in final exams. Alongwith written exams, bedside viva is also conducted.
Placement Experience
There is a compulsory internship of 1 year after you pass the 3rd professional exam. In this internship, you will be posted in all the major departments of medical field. Also there is a stipend of 20-25k per month. Students, after acquiring a lot of medical knowledge during the past 4.5 years, implement them to patients. They get to know the real life scenario of a Doctor- Patient relationship.
College Events
Every year there is a fest named PALASH held during the months of December and January. Various cultural and sports events are conducted. Participants from various colleges come to take part in different activities. Once a year, there occurs K P Shrivastava Cricket league amongst all the batches.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since it is a government institution, the fee is meagre amount of 10k for tution and 4k for hostel. There are few additional examination charges of 5k. For fooding there is no subsidy. Various mess are there for students. In comparison to this, private medical colleges cost about 8-10 lakhs per annum for the same course.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were few scholarships for students from economically weaker sections. Although few students from SC/ST community are also given a sum of money per annum. The scholarship can be availed by any student provided he meets any of the above criterias.
Campus Life
Campus life depends on the person. If you participate in various activities it is joyous or else boring. Most batches equal number of boys and girls, which we hardly see in any engineering college. There is a stadium for all the sports activities. Also there are 3 parks in the campus. All the convenience stores are in close proximity to the college main gate. The college lies in the city and not in some remote area in outskirts.
Hostel Facilities
There are single rooms for boys. For girls, their accommodation changes in every professional year. Till they come in 3rd professional they get single rooms. Hostel are recently renovated. There is a guard in each hostel and it is well maintained and cleaned every day.
Alumni/Alumna
There is a organisation named ARRA which takes care of all the alumuni relations. Any alumuni can come to college and visit hostel at any time of the year.
Admission
Since my childhood, i always aspired to become a doctor. A dream that my mother couldn't achieve. I wanted to feel the pleasure of healing someone. For admission in my college, the Medical Council of India conducts a national level exam NEET UG every year. About 10 lakh students appear in this exam and about 10k students get admission in a Government Medical College. Total marks for the exam is 720.and the cutoff is around 550-570. Higher the marks, better the college. You can get a college either via All India Quota or State Quota. After the merit list, counseling occurs in 3 rounds and accordingly college is allotted.
Faculty
As i entered my college, there was an orientation class by one of our physiology professor. It felt like my school life was continuing further. All the teachers in the first year will teach you as you are still a school kid. They will spoon feed you everything. Gradually as you go on further, teachers won't be spoon feeding you as the syllabus becomes vast. Although they are always there to guide you till the end. From 2nd Professional, you need to go to wards and take history of patients, examine them. Then teachers and post graduate students will help if you are facing any problems in history taking or examination or communicating with the patient.
