LIFE AT JIPMER

Overall, studying in this college is a wholesome experience.At first, the students would feel difficulty in adjusting, especially language problems. Tamil is widely spoken by everyone here. Once they learn the basics and start communicating with patients, they get a hang of everything here.

Medical curriculum js almost same all over india. But, there is a pressure of studying in an Institute of National Importance. Clinical postings and labs are very useful, but there is a lot of records to do, which I feel is of no use.

There is one year on internship at the end of final year. JIPMER offers the highest stipend for a medical intern. Rs. 23,500/- per month. The interns are posted in various departments for a duration of one year.

JIPMER proudly hosts a 7 day inter collegiate cultural, sports and literary festival, SPANDAN. It's the largest medical college fest in south india. Students from all over india, especially from AFMC, pune, AIIMS participate actively in it.

Fees per year is around 10k. Excluding book cost. The institution is funded by the central government. But there are a lot of miscellaneous costs which the student has to bear. The tuition fee per se is really low.

Our college doesn't offer loans or scholarship. But, it is possible to claim scholarship offered by other bodies. There is a research grant, GJStrauss, which is held by JIPMER. Students whose project gets approved gets a sum of Rs. 10,000/-

The social life, in my opinion is the best here. The city of Pondicherry is a cute little place, with so many attractions to offer. Our campus offers a lot benefits and the student council organizes time to time music jam sessions, dance club sessions and dramatics training. There are basket ball courts, tennis courts, cricket ground etc.

Most alumni join back at JIPMER as resident doctors and professors. They are very approachable and helpful. On the other hand, there are a lot of alumni societies on social media sites, the most active one being JIPMERnet on facebook.

There is an entrance exam conducted every year, with 200 mcq questions +4 marks for correct answer, -1 for incorrect answer and 0 for unanswered questions. Ranking is based on the scores. Number of people writing this entrance is around 1.5 L. Its kinda difficult to get into.

Faculty here are high qualified. With many of them being JIPMERites themselves. Every department has a minimum of 5 faculty. Clinical departments have even more number of faculty. They have to treat patients in wards, opd and take classes for ug and sometimes for pg students. They also mentor a lot of students with their research.
