Remarks
Academically there is no doubt about the college is one of the top ones in South Kolkata. It's accredited with B+ by NAAC. But the only negative thing about the institution will be its failure to deal with political fringes.
Course Curriculum Overview
The undergraduate exams for honors degrees are held under the University of Calcutta's norms of 1+1+1. A total of 800 marks' exam is taken over the course of 3 years on your major subject and you have to get 35% marks at least in every exam to retain your Hons degree. However, the old syllabus is set to be renewed by CU and a new semester system is to be implemented which will be very similar to those in Engineering colleges.
Placement Experience
As it's a regular college where non-professional courses like B.A, B.Sc., M.Sc. are taught, the campusing probability is very low. The college offers very little on the grounds of job opportunities as well as providing internships.
College Events
There is an annual college fest and teacher's day celebration when all the students and faculties come under one roof to celebrate. It also gives a great exposure to some hidden talents among the students. Be it singing, dancing or other activities.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Feasible, as the college follows the University of Calcutta curriculum, the fees are as per norms set by the institution. The fees for undergraduate is roughly only 4-5K INR annually whereas the postgraduate fees can be 22-23K per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
A student with above 70% marks in 10+2 and above 53% marks in B.Sc. can avail of the Swami Vivekananda scholarship. For this, the student's family's monthly income will have to be less than 15000. Apart from this, there are scholarships made available by the Government of West Bengal for single girl children.
Campus Life
There are football tournaments every year hosted inside the college premises. It's an intra-college tournament played by students only of this college. The labs are well maintained with proper air conditioning.
Alumni/Alumna
There is an alumni network but the functioning of it is not really effective. Senior students are helpful indeed. During our M.Sc group projects, we received great help from our seniors. They also helped us with their class notes from time to time.
Admission
I had a second class degree under graduation from the University of Calcutta in Physics. So I applied for an M.Sc. degree in college. They released a merit list in a few days and later on I got selected through counseling based on the merit list.
Faculty
The faculty is very helpful. As I can say about my department, i.e. Electronic science only, there are teachers who are very good at their job. But most importantly they understand the students well and can constantly motivate them.
