How good is it to do Distance MBA from NMIMS?

SP
Sneha Patil Posted On : January 18th, 2022
BE from Savitribai Phule Pune University (2011)

NMIMS as a brand is really good. But the distance learning program provides much fewer opportunities to students than regular courses.

It is considered as a mere certification program, as they lack the critical elements like involvement in group projects, rigor of the full-time curriculum and peer-to-peer learning.

Hence, it is suggested that if you can afford it, opt for a full-time 2-year PGDM program. IISWBM Kolkata, ITM Mumbai, ASB Hyderabad, GIBS Bangalore, GLIM Chennai, etc. will be a good choice.

Am I eligible for a government job after doing graduation from IGNOU distance education?

SJ
Sattvik Jain Posted On : October 14th, 2022
Studied Political Science and International Relations at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

IGNOU is a reputable and accredited government distance learning university. It has been approved by both the UGC and the AICTE. So there is no doubt about the validity of IGNOU degrees now or in the future.

The second point to consider is Distance Education. Yes, degrees from open universities are not accepted for all types of jobs or vacancies. Approximately 10-15 years ago, the majority of government jobs required regular courses. This trend is currently changing.

IGNOU degrees are accepted in both cases. However, there are still very few government or private companies, such as TCS, that do not consider candidates from distance education. Because they are in short supply, you will have no trouble finding a job with an IGNOU degree. It also depends on the degree to some extent. Regular engineering or B.Ed degrees are still considered superior to distance degrees. Distance or regular mode courses such as BSc, Bcom, or BA are nearly equivalent.

In a nutshell, an IGNOU degree qualifies for the majority of government jobs.

What is the best distance learning MBA Program: Symbiosis Pune, IMT Ghaziabad, NMIMS or IGNOU??

SL
Shivangi Luthra Posted On : October 15th, 2022
MBA, MCA in MBA in Human Resource Management & Master of Computer Applications, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

IGNOU has an international reputation because it serves over 3 million students and offers over 200 courses. It is the world's largest university. In the long run, their curriculum is worthwhile, and there are very few negative reviews on IGNOU MBA online.

Symbiosis, IMT, and NMIMS each have their unique value and attractiveness in terms of employment. Regardless, if you end up learning the subject to the best of your ability, the university name serves only as decoration on top of the dish.

MBAs are well-suited to leadership roles such as managing a team. Your decision to work in your chosen field of engineering, where you will learn concepts such as how a company hierarchy works, its SOP, customer service, and so on, is a good one. This will provide you with a fresh perspective on the value and/or necessity of an MBA.

Work experience combined with an MBA from a government-approved university will be extremely beneficial (SMU is a big no-go area). Work experience always provides more comprehensive and valuable knowledge than books and degrees. Pursue excellence, and success will always follow.

Is an IGNOU degree valid for Kerala PSC now? Also is an IGNOU distance learning BCom and MCom valid for a lecturer post in Kerala PSC?

AS
Amrita Singh Posted On : May 2nd, 2026

IGNOU degree validity for Kerala PSC:

yes, IGNOU degrees are generally valid for Kerala PSC examinations. IGNOU is a central government university recognized by UGC — its degrees are valid for most government competitive examinations including Kerala PSC.

specifically for BCom/MCom for lecturer post:

  • BCom (Distance) from IGNOU: is UGC-recognized and valid for government jobs that accept recognized distance education degrees. Kerala PSC recognizes IGNOU BCom for eligible posts
  • MCom from IGNOU: similarly UGC-recognized and valid for Kerala PSC lecturer eligibility
  • Important caveat: for specific posts requiring NET/SET or teaching experience, the degree eligibility is just one criterion. check the Kerala PSC notification for the exact post you're applying for to confirm IGNOU degrees meet their requirements
  • distance learning equivalence: UGC and AICTE have ruled that distance mode degrees from recognized institutions are equivalent to regular degrees for employment purposes

always attach a copy of IGNOU's UGC recognition letter with your application. verify with the specific PSC notification as requirements can vary by post.

What are your views about a part-time MBA at JBIMS, Mumbai? Is it really worthwhile?

NG
Niharika Gandhi Posted On : February 9th, 2023

If you're looking to do a part-time MBA program in Mumbai, JBIMS MBA part-time is a great choice. The classes are held both during the week (6:30 pm to 9:30 pm) and on weekends. All the schools in University of Mumbai offering this course have the same curriculum, but JBIMS stands out because of its well-known reputation.

This course is good for:

  • Working people with graduation degree and want to become managers
  • People who can't afford to spend 2 years doing a full-time MBA
  • If you do not want to spend a lot of money on executive MBA programs
  • People living in Mumbai for the next 3 years (JBIMS part-time MBA is for 3 years)
  • If you can attend classes and have time on the weekends to do coursework
  • If you are looking to make connections in the industry

This course may not be good for:

  • People who can afford to spend 2 years doing a full-time MBA, because full-time is better than part-time
  • If you want to have a guaranteed job after the program, because part-time MBA programs assume that the students are already employed and will find better job opportunities in the future
  • People who might have to move away from Mumbai for a long time or who can't regularly attend classes.

I hope this information helps you with your decision. Good luck!
