North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has a very peaceful environment and extremely friendly people. This institute can be good but it does not meet the expectations in terms of providing quality education.
If you don’t want to struggle in your work-life, it will be wise not to choose NEHU. One of my friends is a faculty there and she is not happy with the academic environment and work culture at the institute.
Besides all the bad reviews there are a few departments that are decent.
Lastly, it has a diverse nature of students and comes with an extremely beautiful campus.
Among these three the best college will be AEC (Assam Engineering College) and here are some reasons to justify it.
Hence, if you're interested in pursuing engineering, then choosing AEC will be a very good option as this college has a very good reputation and experience in this field and offers very good facilities and placements to its students.
The environment at NEHU is unique. It is a sort of mix of both Indian English Medium of education, American style, and a slice of mainland Indians, the most important touch of British back then. Here is a brief highlight of the institute.
Here, learning in such an environment is really amazing. It is just not about academics but learning in nature makes you more focused.
North-Eastern Hill University doesn’t provide BA in Mass Communication. The department of Journalism and Mass Communication of NEHU offers a Masters's in Jurnalism and Mass Communication only. You need to have a bachelor's degree of three years or more in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate to apply for this course.
Placement is good about 85% got placement from on campus. On campus placement range is from 6 to 8 Lpa .. Off campus placement goes upto 18Lp... Medtronic, Ge healthcare, philips, Biocon, many govt companies etc come
There are not enough faculty members. Often times, guest lecturers take classes, with less experience, hence sometimes downgrading the learning quality. But yes, some guest lecturers are very good too. Faculty to stident ratio is around 1:15, which is a guess. It can be way off. But yes, it can be way worse. This ratio is good enough ig. Some faculty members i liked are our Mathematics Professors, Engineering Graphics Professor, and many others. Can't name them all. They are very good at what they are doing. The exams are extremely easy, and questions are mistly either repeated, or taught in the class. It is too easy in fact; shouls be way harder. A few barely fail. Course curriculum should be improved though.
Overall Campus life is mostly good. A big problem though, the tribal people here (Khasi) are cery aggresive. You complain about anything, amd they just come to your room to beat you up. They can literally kill you if unstopped. Can't complain about the heinous food here, because of the above reason. They can cut into your line when you take the food and take before you, and you cannot say anything. A good number of books in the library. More than enough. Festivals are celebrated too much though. Freshers, farewell, Varsity fests, etc.
We keep our own room clean. No such faculty to help. But the cleaners clean the hallways and all almist everyday. But no faculty help in the room. Which is understandable honestly. Meal is not terrible, but can be way better. Registration process for hostel is hectic (somewhat) but not that bad. Affordability is 5 stars. Cannot be cheaper.
