How do I convert SGPA to percentage under Pune University rules?

SM
Sharthak Mishra Posted On : February 4th, 2022
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Savitribai Phule Pune University

According to the Pune University rules, the conversion of SGPA to percentage is done in the following way.

Percentage of marks(%) = CGPA * 8.80

Where, CGPA = \((\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i G_i) /(\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i)\)

CGPA = [\(\sum\)Grade points earned * Credits for each course] / Total Credits

Hope this clears your doubts.

What is the policy for giving Grace Marks in Savitribai Phule Pune University for engineering students?

SP
Suman Patel Posted On : May 2nd, 2026

grace marks policy at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for engineering students:

  • SPPU allows grace marks to help students pass or improve marks, but with specific rules
  • grace marks can be awarded up to 5 marks per subject if a student fails in a subject by those marks
  • maximum 10 grace marks per semester across all subjects combined
  • grace marks are awarded to help borderline failing students clear the paper — not to boost already-passing marks significantly
  • the SPPU examination board at the university level reviews grace mark eligibility after every exam

these rules can change with university circulars. check the latest SPPU examination rules on unipune.ac.in or ask your college's exam office for the current policy — rules have been revised multiple times. for exam results, grace marks are automatically applied by the university if eligible; students don't need to apply separately.

How can I get a degree certificate from Pune University if not collected at convocation?

AS
Aditya Shinde Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at Savitribai Phule Pune University

If you haven't collected your degree certificate from Pune University during convocation, the university will send it to your respective college. However, if you haven't received it yet, you must take the initiative to inquire with the convocation department to obtain your certificate.

When applying for a degree certificate during convocation, the best option is to apply for it by post. This way, the university will courier the certificate to the address specified in your application. This ensures that you receive the certificate without any hassle and saves you the trouble of going to the university to collect it in person.

What is your review of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU)?

SD
Saikat Das, Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
studied at Savitribai Phule Pune University (2020)

One of my friends recently graduated from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). According to her, it is better to do anything rather than joining this institute. She mentioned some of the reasons that made her feel this way.

  • The institute only focuses on making money and not actual education.
  • The syllabus and curriculum followed by the institute are outdated.
  • Practical training is not properly given, making students lag behind the industry demands.
  • Basic things like a proper academic calendar are not provided.
  • Re-evaluation is time-consuming and usually not done properly.
  • A 60% from SPPU is not considered good enough for admission to other colleges. They do not consider it as first class.
  • They are known to have the worst and uncooperative staff members. They are not at all helpful or considerate about any problem.

It is suggested that you do not opt for SPPU as they are highly unprofessional. They do not have a proper way to conduct classes, assemblies, extracurricular activities and get involved in everything half-heartedly. SPPU is a good example of how a university should be not.

In Savitribai Phule University Pune University how many times can a student give their backlog papers?

AK
Amit Kapoor Posted On : April 30th, 2026

at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for engineering, backlog papers (KT/ATKT) rules:

  • No fixed maximum limit on attempts for backlog papers under the CBCGS system — you can keep appearing until you clear
  • however there is a maximum duration rule: you typically have twice the normal program duration to complete all subjects. for a 4-year BTech, you have up to 8 years from enrollment to clear all papers
  • backlog papers are conducted along with regular semester exams. you don't need to re-enroll in the semester — just appear in the specific backlog subjects
  • after the official program duration ends, an extension may be granted on application, but this varies

practical note: the longer you carry backlogs, the harder it gets to prepare alongside current studies. clear backlogs as quickly as possible — most students who clear all KTs within 1-2 attempts avoid major career delays. check your college's exam section for the specific rules applicable to your admission year and exam scheme.

No, Pune University doesn’t send transcripts directly to the WES address abroad. You will need to send the transcripts to WES.

By following the required steps apply for the transcripts. You will receive the transcripts 60 days after submitting the documents. Make sure that you are ordering two transcript copies of each stream. Once you receive the transcripts, open only one copy of the transcript. Follow the steps below to send documents to WES.

  • You will have to create your profile on WES. Make sure that you are selecting the right country.
  • Go through the instructions and fill up the required details properly
  • After all the details are filled out, pay the required amount and you will receive the reference number.
  • After that, you will have to fill up academic records requests for each stream separately. You can download it from Application WES, online.
  • Then visit Pune University, Examination Hall, and submit the Academic Records Request Form with the original transcript. Note that, on the Academic Records Request Form, putting down the WES reference number is compulsory and you will have to fill up the details in section A only.

You will receive the sealed package from the university the next day and you can send it through Indian Post or from DHL/FEDEX Courier.

WES address is as follows.

Postal Mail (Indian Post) -

How do I convert a CGPA into a percentage in Savitribai Phule Pune University?

RD
Riya Das Posted On : May 3rd, 2026

CGPA to percentage conversion at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU/Pune University) for engineering:

SPPU uses the following official formula:

Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) × 10

example: if CGPA = 7.8, percentage = (7.8 - 0.5) × 10 = 73%

some departments and exam schemes may have slight variations, but this formula is the standard one used by SPPU for engineering programs under the CBCGS system.

important: for any official purpose (job applications, higher studies, government exams), carry a certificate from SPPU/your college confirming the conversion formula, as some organizations want formal documentation rather than a self-computed figure. SPPU issues a grading equivalence certificate if needed. check the current official SPPU circular on unipune.ac.in for the latest formula applicable to your batch.

Which is better Pune University or Mumbai University?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

Both Pune University and Mumbai University are well-esteemed institutions in India imparting superior quality education. However, the one that is suitable for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. Some factors that are usually considered are location, campus culture, and research opportunities. It's advisable to research both universities and visit them in person if possible to make a wise decision.

In my opinion, however, Pune University has a much higher preference rate than Mumbai university. This is because of the following factors:

  • Pune University has a better and well-structured curriculum in comparison to Mumbai University, especially in Engineering.
  • The academic rules are more strict at Pune University and the number of backlogs allowed is also less than at Mumbai University thus maintaining the quality of Education.
  • The exams are conducted consequently and little time is given for preparation. This makes it more challenging for the students and prepares them well for the future.

If you genuinely want to understand concepts and create amazing memories along with a lot of struggles, Pune University is for you. If you are looking for a laid-back campus life and a calm learning environment, then Mumbai University is best for you.
