I've been at IISc for about a year and a half now, and it's been an amazing journey. The opportunity to learn from some of the brightest minds in the country is incredible. When it comes to IISERs, I've only heard about them from friends. One friend is at IISER Pune and another at IISER Kolkata. They both seem quite happy, but my friend in Pune appears more satisfied. This might be because IISER Kolkata is a bit far from the city, with fewer places to hang out. However, both of them are pleased with their professors and the education they are receiving.
Both IISc and the IISERs are well-equipped and have excellent faculty. IISERs were the pioneers in starting the undergraduate program and have a solid curriculum. Even though IISc is among the top institutes globally, it's still refining its UG program. So, the choice between IISc and IISER depends on what you're looking for in your education.
Thanks for the A2A. There are already plenty of detailed comparisons between IISc and IISER, so I'll share my perspective instead.
The Indian Institute of Science, known as IISc, has been around since 1909 and gained university status in 1958, although it only started offering undergraduate degrees in 2011. In contrast, the first IISER appeared in 2006. Both institutions aim to advance scientific and technological education and research in India, as IISc's website says.
When it comes to national rankings, IISc usually tops the list or ranks above IISER Pune, which is often the highest among the IISERs. I can't explain why engineering and science schools are ranked together, but I’m curious about that too. IISc is well-established and respected, so it’s a top choice for top-ranked JEE and KVPY students. While it ranks highly in India, it’s still climbing the global rankings. Nonetheless, it's a fantastic place for science enthusiasts. Now, let’s talk about the IISERs.
IISERs have moved beyond being just emerging institutions and are gaining recognition, shown by higher cut-offs and more people taking their Aptitude Test. They’re on track to make a significant impact in India and possibly worldwide in the future.
One more thing to consider is the alumni network. IISc has a strong alumni base with many successful individuals, while IISERs are newer and still building theirs. However, this is likely to change as IISERs grow. This doesn't mean IISc will become less important, just that IISERs are on the rise.
To sum up, IISc is a top choice, but IISERs are also excellent options. If research is your goal, either institution can provide a solid start. Hope that helps!
Best of luck!
When it comes to choosing between UG programs at IISc and IISER Pune, IISc stands out as the top choice in India, whether you're looking at undergrad, postgrad, or even PhD programs. It's renowned globally for its cutting-edge research facilities, impressive achievements, distinguished alumni, and a vibrant culture that makes it unparalleled in the research field. Plus, its campus is conveniently located in the heart of the city.
Getting into the UG program at IISc is no small feat. It's designed for the most passionate and talented science students in India. While IISERs are still developing, no other Indian institute currently matches the UG experience and exposure that IISc offers.
