The campus is quite large and looks amazing, especially at night if you're staying in the hostel. The canteen is decent, though the food prices are a bit higher than what you'd expect at a government college. While there aren't tons of activities happening on campus, the annual cultural fest, Anugoonj, is a highlight.
As for technical events, the technical fest InfoXpression doesn't happen every year, but our tech groups like IEEE and Techspace are improving steadily. Around the campus, there aren't many hangout spots except for McDonald's and a local wine and beer shop, which is a popular spot for many students. Additionally, there are various fests hosted by different departments like Law and Mass Communication, offering great opportunities to participate and have fun.
Campus life at USICT has its ups and downs. While some students find the faculty, placement opportunities, and even some seniors lacking, there are definitely positives too. You'll likely find yourself hanging out with a small group of friends who will be your buddies for the whole four years. The curriculum is quite solid, giving you a taste of all the essentials in your field.
The students here are generally great, but from an engineering standpoint, things can feel a bit slow. On the bright side, the campus is nice with good internet, infrastructure, and sports facilities, and there's usually no strict attendance policy to worry about.
In a nutshell, if you have a good group of friends or seniors, your experience will be fantastic; otherwise, it might not be as enjoyable. The good news is you'll have plenty of free time to explore your interests if you manage your time well, though that's often easier said than done.
What's campus life like?
In short, the campus is nice, but it's almost like a boys' college with very few girls around. The labs are good but aren't used much. There's plenty of time to relax between classes, and the canteen is decent sometimes. The teachers are average, and people pretend to enjoy Anugoonj, which is kind of a mess. The end-term exams come with a twist thanks to the cheating squad. There's not much room for innovation, making the place pretty dull and monotonous for an engineering school. But then again, many engineering colleges have this same dull vibe, slowly draining your energy semester after semester, exam after exam.
Longer version:
First year - You'll deal with subjects like chemistry and math, which can be draining. The lectures can be dull, especially with the USBAS faculty, though the USICT teachers are slightly better than the senior USBAS ones. The first semester flies by, and no matter how many notes you take or highlight, you'll end up copying notes from the front-row students. The second semester goes by even faster, partly because of the hype around Anugoonj, which isn't that great, and because the semester is just about four months long.
Second year - You'll start with big plans like learning to code or picking up new skills, but it’s hard to keep that interest alive because the place is just so ordinary. Even if you do learn something, those skills fade fast since there are hardly any active technical clubs. Everyone is focused on grades. People have time for Anugoonj but not for reviving festivals like Infoexpression. Innovation is just not a priority here. If you have backlogs, the second year can be quite tough and unpleasant.
Third year - Apart from faking internship certificates, it’s pretty much like the second year. The subjects get harder, and you might notice more stress, but you’ll get used to it. Not because things get easier, but because you get accustomed to feeling frustrated.
Fourth year - It's all about placements! TCS comes to hire in large numbers, but some students don't get in not due to lack of ability, but because the spots fill up fast. Those who do get in often act like it's a huge achievement, but it's not as special as they make it out to be. Even students from less reputable colleges get into TCS. By the end, you might feel let down. But don’t worry, USICT will continue to bring in average companies, giving you plenty of chances to join the IT industry with a salary similar to a clerk's.
Despite my complaints about the college, I’ve had some great times with amazing people. My advice: take lots of pictures.
PS: In the end, it will all make sense. So relax.
Campus life at USICT is quite vibrant and engaging. We have two major fests, Anugoonj in February and InfoXpression in November, which are the highlights of the year. The campus is pretty spacious, with a huge library that has a wide range of books and good study spaces.
There are several sports facilities available, including volleyball courts and grounds for cricket and football, which makes it easy to unwind after classes. However, the classroom facilities are basic; some have fans and blackboards, but not all are equipped with smart boards. Overall, there’s a good mix of academics and extracurricular activities that keeps the campus lively.
Life at USICT is decent. We have a big campus with lots of greenery, which I appreciate. The annual fest, Anugoonj, is a major event, and the tech fest, InfoXpression, adds to the excitement. The library is well-stocked, and it's a great place to study.
Sports facilities are also good; we have various courts and fields where we can play different sports. However, the classrooms could use some improvement; honestly, they feel quite basic. The overall atmosphere is friendly, and there are plenty of clubs and societies to join, which helps in making new friends.
