How good is USIT Delhi? How would you rate your experience there?

My experience at USIT Delhi for my Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology has been quite good overall. The faculty is mostly highly qualified, with many professors holding PhDs. However, some teachers can be a bit strict. The exams are manageable if you start studying a bit in advance. The campus life is decent, with the annual fest Anugoonj being a highlight. The placements were excellent in 2022, with the highest package being 45 LPA and an average of 12 LPA. However, due to the recession, the placements this year have seen a decline. The fees are somewhat affordable compared to other colleges, currently at 120000 per year after an increase. Overall, it's a solid choice for IT students.

If I set aside the inconsistent placements and the occasionally unhelpful faculty, USICT is actually a pretty great place to be. I've been a student here for about a year, and this is my honest take. Instead of hiding my identity, I want to keep it real and not go anonymous.

In your first semester, you'll get some survival tips from seniors. They'll share insights on tackling specific subjects with certain teachers, making things smoother for you. The seniors are super supportive throughout the four years. You can reach out to them even at 4 AM, and they'll have your back.

The college curriculum, especially in the first year, feels quite pointless. You'll deal with subjects like Physics and Chemistry, along with their labs, that can really drain you. Some of the older professors tend to be quite strict and may even fail students over minor mistakes or arguments. Many seniors end up retaking tests multiple times just because they rubbed a teacher the wrong way.

The IT department is generally more relaxed, and you'll probably score highest in IT subjects like fundamentals of computing and DSA. There are research opportunities from the first year itself, especially if you're considering an MS or PhD. However, you need to take the initiative and approach the faculty yourself, as they won't come to you. With only about 180 students in each batch, there are plenty of opportunities.

The grading system at the IPU main campus is tough. Scoring a 75% distinction is challenging, whereas affiliated colleges easily give out high percentages and university toppers. That's not the case here.

Being at USICT has its perks. You get access to the air-conditioned UIRC library, free IEEE resource subscriptions, fast WiFi, an air-conditioned canteen, and a clean, attractive campus. The infrastructure is a highlight, and the low fees are a bonus. My first-year fee was 70,000 rupees, and it drops to 52,000 rupees from the second year onwards. Compared to other colleges like DTU/NSIT or private ones like Jaypee, it's a bargain. You can complete your B. Tech for around 3 to 4 lakhs, which leaves room for investing in further studies.

Extracurricular activities within the college are limited, so you'll need to look outside for more options. The college doesn't enforce strict attendance rules, thanks to our dean, allowing students to focus on tech competitions and events without worrying about missing classes. Unlike NSIT/DTU, which have strict attendance policies, USICT is lenient.

Finally, let's talk about placements. The college hasn't shared placement data since 2015, but generally, placements are average. In 2018, Samsung offered the highest package of 8.8 LPA, with an average of 5.21 LPA. This year, Amazon offered 18 LPA to two students. The college doesn't put much effort into bringing companies to campus, but that's typical in government colleges. There are few internship opportunities, which is frustrating. The low placement rates aren't due to a lack of talent among students.

Campus life is pretty engaging, especially with events like Anugoonj. Overall, it's a decent place to study if you are focused and willing to put in the effort.

As a USICT student, I feel I can shed some light on this. USICT ranks as the 5th top college in Delhi, following IIT, NSIT, DTU, and IIT.

There are both pros and cons to consider:

Pros:

• It's a government institution, which gives it a certain prestige.
• Tuition fees are much lower compared to other colleges, whether private or government.
• With limited seats, competition for placements is somewhat reduced.
• Placement opportunities are improving steadily.
• Being on the University's Main Campus comes with unique perks.
• Attendance isn't a huge hassle here.

Cons:

• A significant number of students come from reserved categories or through spot counseling, which can sometimes affect the overall student quality, though there are definitely standout students among them.
• The teaching staff could be better, as many teachers struggle to make concepts clear.
• Although it's the main campus of IPU, activities are often not conducted in a timely manner.

In summary, USICT is preferable over most private institutions, except maybe BITS Pilani. Aim higher if possible, and avoid getting caught up in those gimmicky private colleges. I'm studying CSE at USIT and I'm quite satisfied. Good luck!
