During my first year at MNIT Jaipur, I decided to call for a mass bunk for the D1 batch during a Maths class. To my surprise, Mr. Bhattar was right behind me when I did it. He told me not to attend his class for the rest of the semester. Luckily, a few days later, he forgave me.

When I was at MNIT Jaipur, I didn't do anything wild myself, but let me tell you about one of the most insane things the students did. This incident actually led to the creation of the Annapurna canteen, which is now a popular hangout for day scholars and looks pretty nice both inside and out. Back then, though, there was a dull and overpriced canteen in the same spot. Between Hostel No. 2 and Hostel No. 3, there was a place called GMP, short for General Meeting Point, though first-year students had their own nickname for it. The owner of GMP used to sell burgers, pastries, and drinks at ridiculous prices, and the quality was not great either. His burgers were even more expensive than McDonald's! Students complained to the owner, as well as to the wardens and office staff, but nothing changed.

One night, after GMP closed, a few students decided to mess it up a bit to show their frustration. But the owner's attitude stayed the same, with no change in prices or quality. This pushed the students over the edge, leading to the complete destruction of GMP. Around 100 to 200 students, maybe even more, gathered and totally wrecked the shop. Nothing was left standing. But the anger didn't stop there. The crowd moved to the main canteen and smashed everything—glass, gates, tumblers, you name it. Just like GMP, it was completely destroyed.

Some students were upset because there was no longer a quick snack option near the boys' hostel. However, most were satisfied with the outcome. This destruction paved the way for the construction of the new and improved Annapurna canteen. By the way, the whole admin block is unrecognizable to us now, and even our beloved ECE department got fully constructed!

I was part of the 1989-1994 batch in Metallurgical Engineering. Back then, our college was known as MREC, and instead of semesters, we had a yearly system. In our second year, there was this memorable incident with our Math teacher, an elderly lady whose name I can't quite remember. She was having a hard time keeping the class quiet during a session in L11. Frustrated, she said, "I’ve taken attendance, so anyone not interested can leave." Almost everyone, except a few local students, got up and walked out.

This pattern went on for a couple of weeks. Students would attend just to say "Present Mam" and then leave. But in the third week, she switched things up by taking attendance at the end of class, catching us off guard. She got us that time!

After that, we tried showing up just 10 minutes before class ended to avoid the lecture. We thought we had outsmarted her again. However, she started taking attendance unpredictably—sometimes 15 minutes in, other times splitting it between the beginning and the end of class. Her strategy was too clever for us, and in the end, we had to give up!
