Do you recommend AIIMS Nagpur over Osmania Medical College??

AIIMS Bibinagar. Some of my friends say AIIMS Bibinagar is getting better, and it might be a good choice in about 2 years.

Osmania Medical College has a long history and is highly respected, ranking well among India's top medical institutions in recent years. It has been a leading medical college in the region, although Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad has recently taken the top spot in Telangana. Osmania's age is evident in its older buildings.

In contrast, AIIMS Nagpur is a newer institution, having opened in 2018, with state-of-the-art facilities and modern accommodations.

Both colleges have their strengths, so your choice should depend on what matters most to you. Here's a breakdown:

Osmania Medical College

Pros:

• It's very old and prestigious, with a large network of seniors and alumni.
• Many successful doctors in India and abroad have graduated from here. For example, C. Venkata S. Ram, a renowned expert in hypertension, is an alumnus. He holds several important positions and has received numerous awards, including the Padmashri from the Indian government.
• Osmania hosts OSMECON, a significant undergraduate medical conference, attracting thousands of delegates from across India and other countries.
• There are 10 affiliated hospitals, offering extensive patient exposure. AIIMS Nagpur's OPD is promising but still developing.

Cons:

• The infrastructure is quite old, with limited sports and extracurricular facilities.
• Hostel conditions are poor, especially challenging for those not accustomed to basic living standards. Hyderabad locals don't get hostel accommodation, leading to long commutes.
• College and hospital are separated by a significant distance.
• As a state-funded institution, Osmania lacks the research opportunities available at centrally funded AIIMS. AIIMS professors are usually open to involving students in research, which is crucial for those aiming for residency in the US.
• The student body at Osmania has low diversity, with only 15% of seats allocated through the All India Quota.
