How is Walchand College of Engineering now?

Walchand College of Engineering is quite decent now. I'm doing my Bachelor's in Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering, and I can say that the curriculum is professional and well-structured. The faculty is knowledgeable, and with a teacher-to-student ratio of about 1:50, we get enough attention. Exams are conducted on time, though the fees do hike every year, which can be a bit challenging. Overall, the college provides a good environment for learning and growth.

The glory days of Walchand College of Engineering seem to be in the past. I'm an alumnus of the college and it's tough for me to say this. I recently completed my Mechanical Engineering degree there.

Placements: The placement scene remains impressive, with more companies visiting each year. This success is largely thanks to the dedicated efforts and connections of the Training and Placement Officer. While there are more IT firms coming in, the number of core companies is also on the rise.

Campus Infrastructure: The campus looks more appealing now, but the boys' hostel remains in terrible shape and has been shut down. On the other hand, the girls' hostel is in good condition, possibly because it gets more funding. Academic buildings have seen improvements with upgrades like high-speed Wi-Fi, smart classrooms, and online library access. Unfortunately, the drinking water facilities are poor, with issues like dirty taps and poorly tasting water. Also, the campus lacks charging ports and co-working spaces, making it hard to find places for group work after 6 pm.

Student Community and Clubs: The student community is still as hardworking and competitive as ever. New clubs are forming, but there are no dedicated clubs for space, robotics, or entrepreneurship. Existing clubs struggle to maintain interest due to less engaging activities. The pandemic has also disrupted the transfer of campus culture from seniors to juniors.

Lab Facilities: New labs have been established, but the old ones are in bad shape. Core department labs face issues like broken or faulty equipment. Some departments also lack properly calibrated instruments.

Teaching and Academics: New courses like AI, ML, and robotics are being introduced, but the quality of teaching is declining due to internal politics. Experienced teachers are leaving, and hiring is slow. Some teachers are not attending classes regularly, and students face difficulties in obtaining support for projects or attending competitions. There are still a few good teachers, but they receive little support from the administration.

Research and Higher Education: The M.Tech and Ph.D. programs are struggling. With deteriorating lab conditions and scarce funding, research activities are minimal. Enrollment in these programs is decreasing, forcing the college to actively market them.

I'm in the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) program for Information Technology, and I find the college to be a great place for both academic and extracurricular activities. The curriculum is updated, and the faculty encourages us to stay abreast of new technologies. There are multiple clubs that allow us to explore our interests outside of academics. The fee structure is quite reasonable compared to many other colleges in Maharashtra, which makes it more accessible.

Currently, I’m pursuing my B.Tech in Civil Engineering at Walchand College, and I think the college has a lot to offer. The faculty is supportive and knowledgeable, and they really focus on practical skills. The campus life is vibrant, with many events and clubs that enhance our learning experience.

However, the tuition fees are on the higher side, and while there are some scholarships available, they could do more to support students financially.
