What is your review of Walchand College of Engineering Sangli?

Walchand College of Engineering, or WCE, is a self-governing engineering school that started in 1947. It offers a range of programs including diplomas, bachelor's, master's, and PhDs in engineering, all approved by AICTE. The college is linked with Shivaji University, meaning all degrees are awarded by this university. Right now, WCE is part of the second phase of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), a joint project by the World Bank and the Indian government. The campus has a library, separate hostels for boys and girls, a canteen, a mess, and healthcare services. Plus, there are facilities for sports, a gym, and transport.

For those wanting to join the engineering courses, there's a Centralised Admission Process (CAP) counseling to go through. For diploma courses, applications are made online via the Directorate of Technical Education in Maharashtra. Students interested in pursuing a PhD must take the Common Entrance Test and go through an interview conducted by Shivaji University in Kolhapur.

Looking at the placement stats for 2018-19, about 83% of B.Tech students and 34% of M.Tech students found jobs. Some of the top companies that hired students include LinkedIn, Rakuten, Amazon, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever, Josh Software Ltd, and NICE Systems.

Being in the B.Tech Civil Engineering program at Walchand College of Engineering Sangli has its ups and downs. The curriculum aligns well with industry requirements, and the faculty are supportive. I’ve seen many students secure internships with good stipends.

The placement scene seems promising, with companies like Google and L&T visiting, and the highest package I heard of was around 60 LPA. However, the tuition fees are a bit high at about 86,000, and there aren’t many scholarships directly from the college. But the campus life is lively, with plenty of events and a great library.

As a proud alumnus of Walchand College of Engineering, I'd love to share my thoughts. I joined the electrical engineering program in 2013 and graduated in 2017. The college, which was founded in 1947, is located on Sangli Miraj Road in Vishrambaug and offers B.Tech programs in six branches: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, CSE, and IT.

Academics at Walchand are top-notch, with many professors having graduated from prestigious IITs like Bombay, Kanpur, and Kharagpur, especially in the Electrical department. Some faculty members also come from industry backgrounds, which adds a rich perspective to the learning experience. The professors are approachable and supportive, quite unlike the strict portrayals often seen in movies.

The college hosts numerous co-curricular events such as Vision, Vertex, and Impulse, which are great for building technical and managerial skills. When it comes to extracurricular activities, the campus is vast and well-equipped for sports like football, cricket, badminton, and basketball. The badminton facilities are even suitable for national-level competitions. Additionally, the college arranges internships, training programs, workshops, and industrial visits to enhance practical knowledge.

The 90-acre campus is one of Maharashtra's largest and most beautiful, featuring various sports facilities, a canteen, and a cafeteria. However, the canteen isn't known for its excellent food. The infrastructure, including departments and classrooms, is a bit dated since the college was established decades ago. Still, the laboratories are modern, equipped with both old and new technologies, and there's high-speed Wi-Fi throughout.

Hostel life is pretty basic, with separate buildings and mess facilities for boys and girls. While the food isn't top-notch, students often look for alternatives nearby. The hostels aren't luxurious, but renting a flat nearby costs about the same.

The student body is diverse, with people from different parts of the country, creating a sincere yet fun-loving atmosphere. The college also has various clubs and activities, like EESA, MESA, and PACE, organizing events and workshops.

Placements are contingent on your academic performance and overall engagement. Many top companies, including Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Siemens, and L&T, visit for campus placements. The CSE and IT branches tend to have more opportunities, with the highest package reaching 37 LPA in 2019. Other branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics also enjoy decent placement rates, ranging from 75% to 80%, with average packages of around 4 to 4.5 LPA.

I'm part of the IT department at Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli. Last year, students ranked Walch 4th among engineering colleges in Maharashtra. If you consider government-aided colleges, it stands 2nd just after VJTI. Speaking for my own branch, I'd say it's the 3rd preferred choice in Maharashtra, right after COEP and PICT, mainly because those are located in bigger cities.

Walchand College of Engineering Sangli has been a real mixed bag for me. I’m pursuing B.Tech in Information Technology, and while the curriculum is decent and covers a lot, I feel like some teaching methods could be improved.

The placements are good, with companies like TCS and Mahindra coming for interviews, and the average package is around 12 LPA. However, the fee structure can be a bit much, especially since it’s 85,000 for general students.

I wish there were more internal scholarships available to ease the financial burden, but overall, the college has a supportive environment with plenty of clubs and activities.
