Civil engineering, in particular, is now considered a saturated field of study. There are far too many colleges and institutes that offer civil engineering programs, but the majority of them are subpar. As a result, many people were skeptical of the newcomer Presidency Institute, but they have all been pleasantly surprised. Delhi Technological University (DTU) and MNNIT Allahabad have numerous opportunities for the students opting to do civil engineering. DTU has an upstanding ranking record as it was ranked at #2 in Best Technological Universities in India by Times Engineering Survey and #34 by NIRF. MNNIT on the other hand was ranked at #14 in the Top Public colleges in India 2020 by India today and #19 for B.Tech in India 2019 by The Week.

A comparison is presented below to explain the factors to be considered while choosing civil engineering course from these two universities:

DTU

Fees

Rs. 6,55,000

Rs. 7,81,000

Entrance Criteria

10+2 in science with 75% & JEE Main

10+2 in science with 60% & JEE Main

Median Salary

IIT Patna is the best among the given new IITs in civil engineering. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is the oldest institute. One of my friends studied at IIT Patna and it was a great experience for him.

Some of the reasons for opting for IIT Patna over other institutes are –

    • Faculty – The members are highly qualified. So, be assured of the quality of education you would receive here.
    • Facilities – They have their own environmental engineering lab, geotechnical engineering lab, transportation engineering lab, its own workshop which is all top-notch.
    • Events and activities – The department has its own club – ACE (Association of Civil Engineers) which helps to exchange knowledge between the juniors and seniors, the culture of unity, building alumni network, etc.
  • Alumni Network: Many of the alumni are doing research in prestigious global institutions such as Stanford University, UC Berkeley, NUS Singapore, University of Texas – Austin, Virginia Tech, etc.

Which among IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Ropar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Indore, IIT Patna and IIT Dhanbad is best for civil engineering?

SM
Sangita Mishra Posted On : July 16th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2020)

A close friend of mine is an alumnus of IIT Gandhinagar and she vouches for their Civil Engineering course. Here is what she shared from her experience.

  • This college has a very liberal branch-changing policy. You just need to build your core concepts and score well in your semesters. Suppose you want to change from the civil engineering branch to the CSE branch, then you first need to build your coding skills, and perform well in your first year. Then the branch changing would be easier for you.
  • The faculty members of this college are very good. In each branch, there is an intake of 30 students only. This means that every teacher can concentrate on each and every student.
  • The placements in this college is average but it is improving day by day. According to the placement statistics of 2020, the highest and average CTC offered at the institute are 8 LPA and 40 LPA.

The new director of IIT Gandhinagar is from the Civil Engineering department and is paying special attention to improve the different aspects of the department.

How many companies offer internships in civil engineering at IIEST SHIBPUR?

SR
Sayantan Ray Posted On : September 20th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2016)

While Civil Engineering is a widely popular branch of engineering in India, a B.Tech. in the same at IIEST, Shibpur is a highly demanded degree. One of the main points of attraction for the interested students is the quality internships that they can avail as civil engineering students at IIEST, through networking with the wide alumni base, situated both in India and abroad.

About the Placement Cell:

  • The Training and Placement cell at IIEST, Shibpur is responsible for bringing internships, jobs, and vocational training opportunities to its students. It even grooms the students for the same.

  • The cell also brings its students paid and/or summer internship opportunities including the DAAD Scholarship-Working Internship In Science And Technology.

Statistics:

  • Around 40-60% of the students at IIEST get internships during their study period at the institute. Consequently, students also get jobs and/or valuable industry contacts through the said internships.

  • In 2016, a 3rd-year student from IIEST Shibpur got an internship at Google Headquarters in the USA after competing with the best young minds of the nation, from top colleges like the IITs, for the spot.

  • Students that are interested in VT ( vocational training ) can contact their professors at IIEST, who usually have contacts at some of the top civil construction or design firms.

  • Texas Instruments offers internships on campus to 3rd-year students. The selection procedure for the same is rigorous. Internships are also offered by CESC.

  • About 78% of the students from Civil Engineering (Batch of 2016) got an internship at Hindustan Construction Company.

  • Microsoft offers internships to IIEST students every year as well.

Apart from these, students also look for internships/training opportunities independently at various companies to learn the workings of the industry and increase their expertise.

Therefore, B.Tech. in Civil Engineering at IIEST is a decent option for students looking for fantastic internships to cultivate, practice, and improve their skills and efficiency while studying, so that they are prepared and fit for the job by the time they start working. It also gives them practical experience in the real world, which helps one learn. IIEST Shibpur enables this through the opportunities it gives its students and its strong alumni network.
