What questions were asked in the interview of the IIT Bhubaneswar civil department?

SS
Samaira Shah Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

To get into IIT Bhubaneswar civil engineering you need to get through a written exam and an interview. After receiving the call letter from IIT Bhubaneswar, make travel arrangements, and reach there a day before, get settled properly before the written exam/ interview. You should study and prepare only for that subject for which you are being called. Mostly in interviews, they don’t ask Maths and Aptitude so you can skip it, but prepare your core subject properly. The results of the written test are declared within 1 hour of the exam. If you are selected, you will have to go through document verification. You might have the interview on the same day or you will have to wait for one more day.

The interview is purely technical, generally, questions are asked to test your basics concepts. But as it is IIT, there is no boundary of the questions. They can go deep into concepts. Try to answer directly. If you are a dropout student then you must have a valid answer ready for your Gap. The interview takes a maximum of 15 mins and at least 3 Interviewers will be present in the interview board.

Which is the best, IIT Bhubaneswar (EE) or IIT Guwahati for civil?

RT
Rima Tandon Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

Both the choices IIT Bhubaneswar(EE) and IIT Guwahati(Civil Engineering) have their own significance.

Coming to the specifics, the Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. The placement stats are also better than most of the new IITs. In the year 2019, around 86% of students got placed from the Electrical Engineering branch. The official average package for the batch 2017 as released by the institute was 8.5 LPA, which is more than a decent package for a fresher. A good number of Core companies, software companies and PSU’s hire Electrical Engineers (EE) from IIT Bhubaneswar. The subjects taught in Electrical Engineering, have their applications in day to day life. Hence this subject always has potential in the future.

Coming to Civil Engineering in IIT Guwahati, the civil branch may not be as lucrative as CS, IT branches. But it does offer some great opportunities. In core engineering and the Pvt sector, there are very few companies that offer decent packages. In 2019 around 77% of students got placed in Civil Engineering. The average package for this branch is around 6.6 LPA to 7 LPA. Hindustan Construction Company, L & T, DLF, Tata Projects, Gammon India are some of the major recruiters for Civil Engineering.

If you intend to join public sector, then Civil is the best branch as there is very less competition compared to other branches. You can go for PSU's through GATE or join Engineering Services. Also if you are strictly after govt. jobs, then you can take civil at IIT Guwahati.
