Which is the best for Civil Engineering, Thapar University or CSE in Jaypee Noida?
It would be advisable to choose the branch as per your interest first. And then if you figure out that you have an interest in civil engineering, you should go to Thapar. On the other hand, if you have an interest in computer science then you should go to Jaypee Noida.
- Thapar University and Jaypee Noida are both good.
- The main thing to be concerned about is your interest in the stream.
- Both the colleges are very reputed but Thapar has a slight edge over Jaypee.
- The placement record for Jaypee for the past year has not been as good as compared to the previous year‘s records.
- But if you compare Thapar’s civil and Jaypee’s CS, then you should opt for CS at Jaypee.

Being a student of Jaypee myself, I can say that Thapar’s placement records are better, especially recently.
What is the present condition of Civil engineering branch at IIT Mandi? Is it a good decision to choose it?
The condition of the branch of civil engineering is not pretty good at IIT Mandi. They do not have sufficient faculty and the placement support is very poor when compared to other institutions. You can look for other colleges for civil engineering. If you are looking for a branch change, then you can switch to CSE after the completion of your first year.
What should I do I am getting civil at MNNIT Allahabad in first round? This is my first attempt and I'm interested in ISI, IISc or IISER for research.
ISI, at the undergraduate level, teaches statistics and mathematics and IISER is in charge of General Sciences and MNNIT Allahabad offers engineering programs. Think thoroughly about what you want to pursue because the paradigms are different and the impact on the industry is also different.
If you go for civil engineering at MNNIT Allahabad you will find that the subjects are similar in the first year. You can top your class if you study hard. Only the top 2-3 students get the opportunity for changing their discipline after completing the first year. Changing your discipline will enhance your eligibility to the other institutes you have mentioned in your postgraduate.
ISI gives you five options at the postgraduate level:
- MS in Quantitative Economics
- M.Tech in Computer Science
- M.Tech in Reliability, Quality, and Operations Research
- Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (this is co-hosted with IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata)
- In case you want to pursue mathematics then you can go for M.Math.
IISc offers a number of specializations in engineering and general sciences. The eligibility, however, was restricted to undergraduates and the disciplines related to them. For shifting disciplines, you will have to appear for the GATE exams for the discipline you are converting to.
My friend appeared for his GATE exam in CSE to pursue the same in M.Tech. ISI is unique in this case because there are no restrictions here.
Which is better, Roorkee in chemical or IIT BHU in civil?
IIT Roorkee Chemical Engineering is better than IIT BHU Civil Engineering. It is an old IIT and offers good exposure. The student culture on campus is great.
IIT Roorkee placements are good for Chemical Engineering. Each year almost 100% of students get placed from the branch. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 14.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 1.54 Crore per annum.
Which one is better in academics for a B. Tech (Civil Engineering) among NIT Surathkal and NIT Hamirpur?
On the basis of academics, if a college has to be chosen between NIT Surathkal and NIT Hamirpur for a B. Tech civil engineering course, one should look at the different perspectives that are given below.
NIT Surathkal:
NIRF ranked NIT Surathkal as the 21st best engineering college in 2019. The college has an amazing faculty for civil engineering most of the teachers that are in NITSurathkal have acquired Ph.D. degrees and a minimum teaching average of 2 years. The admission to the BTech Civil program is through JEE Mains.
Placements:
- NIT Surathkal in the academic year of 2019 witnessed a 100% placement percentage.
- There were around 60 companies present to give jobs to the B. Tech students.
- A total of 97 students opted for placements for B. Tech civil engineering course, out of which all of them got the placements.

In the academic year 2019, NIRF was ranked as the 60th best engineering college in India. The BTech Civil Engineering admission is through JEE Mains. NIT Hamirpur has 9 Ph.D. scholars who are taking the classes. They give tutorial framed questions and the faculty also provides the best study materials.
Placements:
- There were a total of 49 jobs that were offered by the companies to the students.
- There were around 41 students placed out of the total 63 students making a percentage of 71.33% of placements.
- The top recruiters that came to college were Accenture, Wipro, Oracle, Samsung, Godrej, Bajaj, Reliance, HSBC, Jugnoo, Ashok Leyland, Bloomberg, and Ascon.
- The average package was recorded to be 6 LPA while the highest was 12 LPA.
Therefore, in conclusion, in terms of syllabus, both these colleges have more or less the same course structure and merit system. If a choice has to be made between the two one can choose a college based on the factors that are given above.
Should I go with IIT BHU Civil or IIT Dhanbad ECE?
It is better to pursue civil engineering from IIT BHU in comparison to IIT Dhanbad. The reasons for choosing IIT BHU for pursuing Civil engineering are as follows:
- One of the oldest departments in the nation is the one for civil engineering at IIT BHU. The university is proven its academic excellence since 1949.
- In 2023 IIT BHU ranked 15 among all topmost engineering colleges of India.
- This college has a great placement system. By its placements, this college is also well renowned. The average compensation at this college is 19.09 lakhs, and the maximum package is 1.15 crore per annum.
- The tuition is comparable to other tier 1 colleges, however the students whose families make more than 5 lacs annually, there is no fee remission. Haldia Institute of Technology has a decent infrastructure and a highly experienced faculty to impart the best of knowledge and practical learning for civil engineering.
Regarding placement opportunities at this institute, you will need to score exceptionally good marks in GATE. Their GATE rank would determine the opportunities and placements in the corporate sector. Apart from the GATE rank, your technical knowledge, aptitude, and skills would give you an edge during campus recruitment.
According to the recent placement highlights the average and highest CTC offered was 3.5 LPA and 24 LPA.
Do not go for Software Companies once you are done with Civil Engineering as you would have to venture into alien fields of learning for acquiring related knowledge and expertise. Instead, go for companies that suit your course of study and would help you gain better experiences.
Which college is better: the RV College of Engineering or the MIT Manipal for civil engineering?
I have friends from both RV College of Engineering and MIT Manipal, civil engineering holds the same value from either of them. It is because they both follow the same curriculum and guidelines laid by UGC and AICTE. However, both of them hold an edge over each other in their own way. Here’s why:
- MIT Manipal holds a bigger brand value as civil engineering was one of the branches it started and is known for. Other such branches include chemical and mechanical.
- If you are looking for better placements, RV College might be the right choice as it is located in Bangalore which clearly means more opportunities.
- Even if you are getting a computer science branch in MIT Manipal, go for it without a second thought.

Which one should I choose, PDPU for a TFW or BVM for a civil engineering?
Among the above two, PDPU for a TFW should be the better choice for a series of reasons, fees being the prime one. The fee structure is quite low, and you can get a waiver of almost Rs.1.15 Lakhs per semester in PDPU.

- It is evident from the fee structure of the above two colleges that PDPU will cost much less under the category of Complete Tuition Fee Waiver. Other than TFW, PDPU would cost almost the same as BVM in general (1,34,000 for the 1st year).
- The hostel fees for the two colleges are quite similar, having 2-seater and 3-seater rooms with or without A/C, with an annual compensation within the range stated above.
Course Facilities: (Winning Institute - PDPU)
- PDPU has an excellent curriculum and placement for Petroleum, Mechanical, and Chemical engineering departments. Other than that, candidates can opt for CS/IT branches which are new yet decent in overall development.
- BVM Civil Engineering has limited career opportunities. There is a very less chance of getting placed in-campus or getting some career advancement from it.
PDPU, as the name suggests, is an excellent college for Petroleum Engineering also one of the best colleges in Gujarat on an overall scale.
When was the civil (B.Tech) branch started at IIT Bhubaneswar?
The civil (B.Tech) branch of IIT Bhubaneswar began in 2008. The civil branch is part of the School of Infrastructure. In 2011, the Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011 was passed. According to this act, IIT Bhubaneswar is part of the eight New IITs established across India.
The B.Tech Civil Engineering course was one of the first courses that were offered. Today IIT Bhubaneswar ranks at 17 by NIRF, showcasing the well-qualified professors and facilities it offers. There are forty-eight gender-neutral seats and ten women-only seats in the department. The branch also provides learning in management, humanities, communication skills, arts, general studies.
