Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points 

• You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult.
• If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities.
• You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE. 

The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. So, choose according to your preferences. 

My sister too had to choose between IIT Mandi and another institute but chose IIT Mandi mainly because of its highly lenient branch change policy.

Placement-wise too, IIT Mandi gives an edge to DTU and NSIT. Here is a head-on comparison between the placement statistics of IIT Mandi and DTU.

While the highest CTC of DTU might seem higher, it’s the average package that actually determines the placement scenario of an institute. Considering that IIT Mandi is better than DTU. In fact, Electrical in IIT Mandi is even then DTU. Secondly, DTU’s increasing batch size is another major concern these days. I personally think DTU is overhyped because of its NCR location. Considering the fact that Delhiites get a quota of 80% you can infer how diluted the talent pool of DTU is.

IIT Indore is one of the leading new IITs that has made its name because of its multiple achievements. Here is exactly why you should give more preference to IIT Indore than IIT Patna. 

• The faculties are very approachable and cooperative. They guide you to do projects and even motivate you for research work. Additionally, they teach you tactics to clear GRE and GATE for top universities and PSU respectively. Such kind of guidance isn’t available at every institute.
• The faculty-to-student ratio is great around 12 - 13 faculties for 40 students. This helps the students to get individual attention from faculty who track the personal and individual growth of every student. 
• IIT Indore has ties with the University of Stuttgart, Germany enabling students to do internships in the second year. 
• The students' demands are given due importance and the HODs bring all necessary changes demanded by the students to make things easy. 
• IIT Indore being new has top-notch labs with all modern equipment and instruments.

In all, IIT Indore is a great choice for Civil Engineering.

If you are certain about your branch choice, then go for Civil at IIT Kanpur. If you aren’t sure about the branch then choosing IIT Kanpur among these three IITs will be better. In 2021, NIRF ranked IIT Kanpur #6 in the country. Although it’s not easy you can change your branch after a year. But you can’t change your college. 

Honestly speaking, this internet-controlled era hardly requires good teachers as everything is available on the net. You can get in touch with internationally proclaimed professors with just a click. As far as IIT faculty is concerned, all IITs have similar degree holders that are quality knowledgeable. 

A good teacher is the one that hones your talents to the fullest. They not only help you acquire knowledge but also shape your thinking style. Every institute has a few teachers that influence a student in a unique way. I am sure both IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU will have similar teachers. 

Ultimately, what matters is the environment and the activities that these colleges will provide us to expand our intellect and maximize our talents. Pay little focus on the faculty and look for the right field to enter that will help you shape your career. Personally, I would suggest you go for IIT Guwahati as it has more open-minded and active people in that area which will give you considerable freedom to think and perform.
