Rachita Sengupta Posted On : July 4th, 2022
B.Tech in Information Technology, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

CoE stands for Computer Engineering. This course includes the study of software and hardware. While CSE stands for Computer Science and Engineering and the course work revolves around programming languages, developing software, theory, and algorithms.

If you are more interested in coding, CSE will be a better choice. The placement record of the branch is also good. The highlights of Thapar University placements show the average CTC for CSE to be around INR 13 LPA.

Is COE at Thapar University really good? Are there opportunities for internships?

JG
Janki Gupta Posted On : August 7th, 2023
Studied at Thapar University (2019)

COE is one of the best branches of Thapar University offering a plethora of job opportunities and exposure to students. Sparing a few professors, the department is blessed with some of the best faculty members.

The internship scenario specifically is great for this branch and one of my friends at Thapar University told me that 5 of his batchmates received internship offers from Microsoft IT. Other companies offering internship offers included Expedia, Snapdeal, Royal Bank of Scotland, ARM, etc. The students received stipends in the range of 20-40k per month. Most of these companies offer PPOs to their students.

Additionally, the research internships are great. One of my friends had the opportunity to intern at IIT Roorkee after his 2nd year. Many others got selected at IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, Kanpur, Guwahati, Ropar, Gandhinagar, Mandi, etc. The reputation of Thapar University is such that it plays a very positive role in the selection of students.

Overall, the brand value of Thapar University makes it possible for big companies to offer lucrative packages and roles.

Is chemical engineering from Thapar University a good option?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 4th, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Thapar University has one of the oldest Chemical Engineering departments but now its situation is not very good.

  • Core placements are very limited. Mostly companies like J.PMorgan and ET medial-abs recruit students from these branches.
  • Over the past few years, Thapar University has been solely focusing on its CS department as a result of which the other branches are suffering drastically.
  • The curriculum of Chemical Engineering at Thapar University is obsolete and irrelevant to the industry trends.
  • Thapar University is increasing the fees every year so people with financial constraints should reconsider.
  • The professors are average and not what you expected
  • The chemical engineering students have long study hours around 30 hrs/week.

I will suggest you to go some other institute preferably a NIT that charges less fees and offers better opportunities.

Which is better, VIT or Thapar University?

PJ
Priyanka Joshi Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

Since I have friends from both VIT and Thapar, I think I can answer this.

Thapar University:

  • Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is an esteemed institute and among the best institutions in the country. It is considered among the best innovation-driven private universities and technical institutes in the country. After BITS Pilani, it has been ranked as the best private institute.
  • The admissions here are based on JEE score.
  • There is no management quota at Thapar.
  • The placement opportunities at Thapar University are tremendous. The average package at Thapar ranges around 6.7 LPA.
  • The faculties at Thapar are great. You will get to learn both practical and theoretical aspects of subjects. The students are exposed to various internship opportunities as well.

VIT:

VIT Vellore is yet to be at par with Thapar University. Since VIT takes in a huge number of students, the placement quality is declining over the years. The average package at VIT is around 2-3 LPA.

Unless VIT Vellore is closest to your place do not opt for it. Thapar University is better in comparison to VIT Vellore. Hence, go for TU without any hesitation.

Is electronics and computers a good option at Thapar University?

AA
Ahelita Anand Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends had been in the very first batch of B.E Electronics and Computer branch. I might be able to share some facts about the college and the course which can be useful.

  • The batch size consists of 68 students.
  • The placement records were pretty good.
  • This branch was considered for recruitment in the core companies of both ECE and CS.
  • Students were placed by some of the top recruiting core CS companies that include D.E Shaw, Microsoft, Walmart, Samsung, Wipro as well core Electronics companies such as NXP, Mentor Graphics, etc.
  • The average placement package for the first batch was 7 LPA while the highest was 16 LPA for this branch.
  • The course curriculum of this branch includes the core subjects from both ECE and CS branches.
  • The student gets a sneak peek at the common subjects required for the placement criteria for the core CS as well as ECE branches.

If the students are not a big fan of coding cultures that the CS branch usually offers nor good at ECE setups then they would not regret getting into this branch. In the end, the placement will only be availed by the students with their hard work and efforts.

What is the procedure to get a transcript from Thapar University?

YS
Yashraj Sule Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied Computer Science at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2011)

You will have to write an application to the deputy registrar of Academics. Alternatively, you can also send an email to Deputy Registrar with your application.

As far as transcripts are concerned, you need to send the complete address of the universities for which you are applying. Along with this, send two sets of your mark sheet photocopies and degree certificate.

These sets should be authorized by the college and the other set should be duly notarized by a legal or commissioner of oaths or self.

Lastly, your transcripts will only be sent once the administration receives the photocopies of your mark sheets and degree certificates. Overall, it is a pretty simple process. Your work should get done smoothly.
