For getting into NICMAR, You need to give the Post Graduate NICMAR Common Admission Test (PG-NCAT) which consist of
This test is given 60% weightage followed by a GD and PI round which is of 16.67% weightage. The interview process consists of knowledge about self, General awareness that you should Prepare one engineering subject very well (in addition to your usual preparation). Sometimes interviewers ask, “What’s your favorite subject?”.
There are several things you should consider while comparing these branches.
During 2023 placements, 97.29% of students were placed in the Civil branch. Metallurgy students received 100% placements while production students received 97.61% placements.
The salary package stats for these branches are as described below-

Out of the three, Metallurgy has the highest placement percentage.
TATA Steel offers good placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur. Other than them, Vedanta, Jindal Steel, Hindalco, and Tata Metaliks are some other companies that offer placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur.
Metallurgy is a good choice for higher studies. Many students from this branch perform really well in GATE exams.
I recommend you consider joining Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur because it offers good future prospects. However, also talk to some seniors from the other branches before making a final decision.
If you are considering private colleges in Gujarat, Nirma, and PDPU are two of the most reputed institutions. Here's what you need to know about these colleges to help you make an informed decision:
Both Nirma and PDPU are reputed colleges in Gujarat with unique strengths. Your decision should be based on your personal preferences and career goals. If you value academic rigor and a structured approach to learning, Nirma could be a good fit for you. If you are looking for opportunities to develop your skills and interests outside of academics and don't mind paying a higher fee, PDPU could be a good choice for you.
I would any day choose NIRMA over PDPU for Civil Engineering because
Irrespective of the Institute you choose, it’s your capability to make the most out of the program and determine what makes you successful and not the institute.
The placement record for Civil Engineering at Jadavpur University is not great. For a decent job offer in the placement drive, you will need to top your batch or have to be within the top 10 students in your class. The initial pay scale may not be that attractive, but you can expect to receive a good CTC, once you get experience.
The initial salary package for Civil Engineering is around 3-5 LPA. The placement scenario for branches like Civil is similar in other reputed institutes like IIT KGP. Only after doing your M.Tech from reputed IITs or NITs, you can expect a good salary package. If you want to get a good job after graduation, you should start preparing for UPSC, GATE, IES, etc. If you score a decent rank in GATE, you can work for PSUs. West Bengal Govt. also offers many jobs for Civil students.
If you are looking for a private job, then you should consider Civil Engineering at NIT Surathkal. Here are some reasons why:
However, if you want to go for a government job, then you should go with Civil Engineering at MNNIT Allahabad. Here are some reasons why:
It is difficult to shift to a location that is far away from home. As a North Indian who was faced with a similar situation, I can completely understand your hesitation in choosing NITK.
Talking about this branch, the placements of Civil are comparatively low, irrespective of your college. Even in the IITs, a number of Civil students remain unplaced. But overall, the placements for Civil are slightly better at NIT Surathkal. NITK also has better infrastructure and a private beach.
But if you plan to prepare for UPSC or GATE, like most Civil students, MNNIT is an ideal choice. MNNIT students secure top ranks in these exams. The environment of MNNIT is ideal for the preparation of competitive exams. I am not aware of the environment provided at NITK for competitive exam preparation.
Both MNNIT and NIT Surathkal are renowned colleges. Both are good choices. You should choose between them based on personal preference. I would also recommend you approach some seniors from NITK to learn about the lifestyle and eating habits over there. Try to find out if the place will suit you or not.
My knowledge is limited to IIT Hyderabad Civil Engineering as my brother hails from the same
Considering the fast-paced growth of IIT Hyderabad Civil in the initial stages itself, I will recommend you join it over IIT BHU.
Civil engineering is a core branch whereas Production engineering is a subsidiary of Mechanical engineering. Civil Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra has an edge in the highest package while Production Engineering has a higher average package.
The scope of Production engineering is expected to increase in the future whereas Civil Engineering scope is decreasing every year with very limited job opportunities. This scenario can be found in almost every engineering college.
Here is a detailed comparison of the placement statistics of both branches

MANIT Bhopal offers plenty of opportunities and exposure, and the Civil Department is very professional and highly reputed. But as far as placements are concerned, the opportunities are very limited for Civil students.
Unlike elite institutes, you won’t get direct placement offers from Mega Project Holders. The placement records are very unsatisfactory for the Civil branch. During 2022, the average package for B.Tech Civil was a mere 6.74 LPA. The maximum package was 13 LPA, the median package was 6.30 LPA, and the lowest package was 4.8 LPA.
But you’ll get plenty of time in the department to join coaching for GATE, IES, GRE, etc. Basically, it is better to work hard and try for off campus placements, or higher studies/competitive exams. Do not rely on the placement drive at the Civil department.
Thus, the placement opportunities for Civil engineers at MANIT Bhopal are very few.
