Is it advisable to go for new IIM like IIM Jammu and do MBA? It is being mentored by IIM Lucknow so will placement be also mentored by them?

SG
Shruti Gupta Posted On : February 12th, 2024
Studied at IIM Jammu

IIM Lucknow does mentor IIM Jammu. But this mentorship extends only to the faculty, curriculum, and pedagogy of IIM Jammu. Most of the faculty of IIM Jammu and IIM Lucknow are the same. Also, the pedagogy and curriculum of both these colleges is the same. But IIM Lucknow does not look after the placements of IIM Jammu in any way.

It isn't correct to assume that the students of new IIMs aren’t as good as those of the old ones. The students of IIM Jammu have won several competitions. They are strong competitors for IIM A and B students.

Apart from this, IIM Jammu has a Student Exchange Program. It allows deserving students to complete a trimester at a European college. The placements of Jammu are on par with other baby IIMs. But you won’t get the same placements as the older IIMs. Finally, IIM Jammu carries the prestigious ‘IIM’ tag, which holds a lot of value in the industry.

The choice is completely yours, but I would personally recommend IIM Jammu for an MBA.

Which is better, FMS or IIM Lucknow?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : January 16th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2021)

When discussing a business school, the most common topics of conversation are diversity, peer learning, case competitions, learning culture, and placements.

Both FMS and IIM Lucknow have very different admissions criteria. Lucknow promotes academic diversity and places a high value on interview scores, whereas FMS places a greater emphasis on percentile.

Typically, classes in business schools last until five o'clock. If you stay on campus, you have the option of sleeping until 8 p.m. and then attending a club/committee event at 9 p.m. When you have in-house fields, you can relieve stress by playing football or cricket at night. You have the chance to run your own business at IIML thanks to their student-run enterprises on campus.

When it comes to faculty, case competitions, and academic curriculum, both brands are massive, and there are numerous opportunities. Additionally, since ROI is the topic of most discussion, FMS succeeds in this area if cost is a genuine concern.

National Institute of Construction Management and Research, Pune

Post Graduate Program in Advanced Construction Management is a course specifically designed for civil engineers and architects. Both technical studies and management studies are combined to create this course. This is the finest course to take if you want to study construction management. The course's scope is wider, which means you can pursue numerous career profiles such as site execution and control, planning, health, safety, and the environment, valuation and estimating, and so on.

The course is multi-disciplinary combining aspects of civil engineering, general management, and construction project management.

The duration of the course is 21 months, having 7 trimesters of 3 months each. The 4th trimester is kept for summer internship and exams are held every 3 months.

The eligibility for the course is having a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture with a minimum of 50% degree.

The admission consists of 4 steps:

  • NICMAR Common Admission Test: 150 marks
  • GD: 20 marks
  • Personal Interview: 30 marks
  • Rating of Application: 50 marks

There is an admission for sponsored category too. First, you need to go through the admission test and pay 50% fees higher than the tuition fees. However, sponsored students are not provided with any placement assistance.

The institute assures 100% placement assistance but the compensation depends on your performance.

Overall the course is good but still, I would suggest you first go for 2 years experience in the field and then go for the course.

Which are the best books for preparation for BITSAT?

MP
Mayank Patel Posted On : February 1st, 2021
B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2023)

JEE (M) syllabus covers BITSAT significantly. But if we compare the overall question pattern, then the BITSAT exam is quite tricky due to the number of questions you need to solve.

To prepare for BITSAT you can follow the books suggested below.

PCM: If you are preparing thoroughly for the JEE exams, then there is no need for extra preparation for PCM for BITSAT.

English and Logical Reasoning:

  • For the preparation of the English and Logical reasoning section, books by Disha Expert can be followed and it is easily available on Flipkart and Amazon.
  • Students from the ICSE board may not require extensive preparation for English.
  • There are YouTube video lectures by GradeUp, which will be helpful for your preparation.
  • Do not take this section lightly as it carries 75 marks in total. Also, a few weeks is enough for the preparation of the English and Logical Reasoning section.

Clear Basics:

  • If you are solely focused on BITSAT then Arihant books are the better options for preparation. Disha Expert is also a good option. Make sure you have a thorough understanding of the concepts discussed in the NCERT books.
  • You can’t do well with selective study for BITSAT. You need a good understanding of the basics to score well.

With preparation, you also need to practice well to score better marks.

  • Quality Mock Test: Pick a good Mock test series with relevant questions.
  • Writing of 6-8 Mocks: It will help you to get the hang of time management for the examination. Allocate appropriate time for each section.
  • Practice in Online Mode: Most of the students are not used to the computer-based online test. So, taking a few online mocks will help you boost your score.
  • Strategize: Before giving the mock test, you should formulate a strategy that works for you. It mainly includes the time allocation for each section, along with answering orders for the questions.
  • Get acquainted with the Format of the Questions: It is required for the English and Logical reasoning sections. Some of the most common formats for this section in the BITSAT exam are synonyms, antonyms, comprehension, family tree, etc.

Besides these above-mentioned suggestions, you should also solve the previous year’s questions. It will help you get acquainted with the exam format and question pattern.

What would be a better option for a current CS student at Mumbai University a Masters from a decent IIT or an MS abroad in the US?

TG
Tridha Gupta Posted On : July 18th, 2022
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Indore

It depends on your future plan. If you want good salary packages after your master's, then doing an MS from the US will be better. Landing a good job with a decent salary package after master's will be difficult in India, except maybe some old IIT. While the scope for work after doing an MS from the US is huge. Many major MNCs have their headquarters in Silicon Valley. The job profiles offered are also comparably better there. But doing an MS from the US is no mean feat. It’s expensive and risky.

If you are interested in pursuing research, you should do your research under the guidance of a good professor. Go through the website of different reputed universities around the world and look through the profile of the professors from your field. Look at their publications, talk to some of their students, and find out how active they are in research. These are some of the important aspects of choosing a guide.

AS
Anika Sinha Posted On : August 16th, 2023

The paid seats system is a system for students who wanted to get admission to Banaras Hindu University but were unable to secure the qualifying ranks. In such a case, he/she can choose to pay the extra fee which is called the Paid seat system. These seats are available up to 5-10 seats in all courses and are reserved as paid seats. This is for those students who got a good rank but missed the campus seat with a very less difference in index.

Procedure

  • Fill in the paid seat form online or during the counseling process. Paid seats are available both for the main campus and affiliated colleges.
  • Your chances of getting the paid seats to work on the number of available seats and your index rank. For instance, if the cutoff is 280, and your marks are in the range of 270-279 you can secure your admission to the campus.
  • The portal will release the result and you can check it on the concerned day.

Fees structure

Paid seats cost extra fees in addition to the semester fees. For example, if your course fee is Rs. 2000 and your paid seat fee is Rs. 25000 so the total fees for the semester will be INR 27000 but the fees for next semester will be the same as a regular seat.

For more information, consider checking the notice board regarding the fee structure for further reference

Should I join IIT Delhi chemical or top NIT CSE?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 1st, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Yes, irrespective of the branch, choosing IIT Delhi will always prove to be beneficial for you. IIT Delhi has ties with many big firms that visit the campus for placements and offer great packages irrespective of your branch. One needs to be proficient in DSA and other computer science core subjects such as OOPS, OS, DBMS, and Computer Networks. A good grasp of these will fetch you a high-paying job no matter which branch you belong to in IIT Delhi.

Although most companies that visit IIT Delhi also visit NIT, your IIT tag will always fetch you extra benefits and no one can deny that. For instance, the same role offered to an IITiand will have more salary than that offered to a non-IITian.You can easily switch roles and fields given the brand name of the institute you are associated with. IITians even have more opportunities for higher studies in Foreign countries than non-IITians.

IITians especially from Mumbai or Delhi are always given preference over non-IITians hence it is advisable to go for IIT Delhi in any branch.
