What is better: EEE at BITS Hyderabad or CS at VIT Vellore?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : December 22nd, 2023
BITS(Goa)

As a former EEE student at BITS Goa, I would not recommend taking up EEE at BITS Hyderabad if you want a career in the field of software engineering.

Here are the reasons why-

  1. The coding involved in EEE is not enough. You’ll code in MATLAB, which is rarely used in the IT sector. You’ll have to devote extra time to learning Python, Java, and other languages.
  2. CS involves much more than coding, all of which you’ll miss out on.
  3. Elective courses like OS, DSA, Comp Arch have very limited seats, and not everyone gets to pick them. Also, you’ll get these courses by your third or fourth year. By then you’ll either be under too much pressure to complete your main syllabus or it’ll be too late because the placement season will have begun.
  4. Top IT companies don’t open for non CS candidates, and even for the companies that do, you’ll have to compete with CS students.
  5. BITS will give you all the necessary exposure, quality education and opportunities. However, as a non IT student you’ll still find difficulty in getting an IT job via campus placements.

Based on all these points, I would recommend choosing CSE at VIT for better job prospects in the IT sector.

I am too confused between CSE at DTU/NSIT and IIT Jodhpur. What should I do?

I can never stop emphasizing this, no matter how many options you have always go for the one that gives you the IIT tag.

I am not saying Engineering colleges like NSIT and DTU aren’t good but they are in the developing phase while IIT Jodhpur is in its developing phase. This means it will only get better. Despite being a new IIT, its average package this year was recorded at INR 21.30 LPA, which is a great feat for a new college.

Additionally, IITs receive more funding from the government to provide better research and project opportunities. Specifically speaking about CSE, this year the highest INR 56 LPA was bagged by BTech CSE. The placement percentage stood at 97% while the average package for CSE was recorded at INR 23 LPA.

DTU and NSIT may have higher placement statistics but they lack what IIT Jodhpur offers, the most coveted IIT tag! So choose wisely.

Jee Advanced Rank - 1386, Jee Main Score - 290, BITSAT Score - 339, Gujarat Board Topper. Where should I go for CSE - IIT (BHU), IIT-H, BITS PILANI or IIIT-H ?

You seemed to have performed quite well considering your JEE rank and BITSAT score. While most board toppers fail to do well in competitive exams, you managed to excellently score well in all competitive exams. You seem to have great opportunities ahead if you join BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, and CSE. considering your ranks and your being a board topper, you can easily maintain an 8 +. The only major drawback is the high fees for which you can seek assistance from the institute regarding scholarships.

Here are a few pros of BITS Pilani CSE

  • Top-notch placements
  • Excellent exposure
  • A flexible college life with responsibilities

If you face serious financial issues and are unable to get BITS, don't lose hope as other colleges offer great opportunities too. The best way to determine the worth of an institute is to evaluate it on the basis of fees, placements, campus life, and academic and professional exposure. Analyze your preferences and go for the institute that satisfies your preferences the most.

How is BBA from IGNOU?

RM
Rishabh Malhotra Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
Assistant manager-Inside Sales at Koenig Solutions (company)

Everything in life has advantages and disadvantages. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of BBA from IGNOU:

Pros:

  • IGNOU offers a BBA with a Specialization in Retailing (rather than a general BBA), which broadens your opportunities in the retail sector beyond sales and marketing.

  • Every year, you receive a certificate. As a result, you can begin working immediately after finishing your 12th grade and continue to advance each year. You don't have to wait three years for a degree before you can get a job. You can study while working.

  • Every year, you are given a project that allows you to gain real-world experience in the retail industry and complete it in retail organisations.

  • Retail Associations of India is collaborating with IGNOU-BBA. You will receive the best curriculum for it.

  • The course is written in simple language that is easy to understand, and it includes the best knowledge in the retail specialisation.

  • The cost of this course is the lowest of any university that offers distance education for BBA.

Cons:

  • There is no Math or Statistics subject in the entire BBA course from IGNOU, so it is entirely theoretical.

  • Unfortunately, some prestigious MBA programmes look for a Math subject in the course of graduation when accepting applications. However, there will be many colleges that will accept your degree.

  • Similarly, some government jobs require a Math subject as part of your bachelor's degree programme. However, there will be plenty of opportunities for you in the government. as well as the private sector for employment You can still apply for exams such as Bank PO, SSC, and UPSC.

  • The same exposure found in regular BBA will never be found in distance BBA. The reason for this is that you will not learn how to give presentations in front of an audience, which is essential if you are studying BBA.

This course is not offered in every city. So, before enrolling in IGNOU's BBA programme, you should contact the IGNOU regional centre in your city. Because this course is taken by a small number of students, it is only available in a few cities. However, when comparing distance universities for the course of BBA, it is recommended that IGNOU is the best because of its lower cost, reputation, and educational standard.

Which UPTU college to choose for a B.Tech CS/IT course: NIET Greater Noida, GL BAJAJ Greater Noida or IMS Engineering College Ghaziabad?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : March 2nd, 2023
M.C.A from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (Graduated 2013)

The choice of UPTU college for a B.Tech CS/IT course depends entirely on your priorities and preferences. Consider factors such as your preferred location, cost of living, city culture, security, placement opportunities, and most importantly, the quality of education offered by the college.

While the quality of education may be a factor to consider, remember that ultimately, your success in college will depend on your own dedication and effort. The atmosphere and culture of a college can have an impact, but it is not the only determining factor in making a college the "best" choice for you.

Based on these considerations, we recommend that you consider IMS Engineering College as your first choice, followed by NIET, and lastly G.L Bajaj.

Should I join IIM Indore's one-year MBA course (EPGP) or continue working, given the bad placement scenario for the course? Or should I try for better colleges in India?

NK
Nitesh Kumar Posted On : January 2nd, 2023
Management Student at IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus

The placement opportunities for an Executive MBA at IIM Indore or In fact any other IIM are very limited. They depend on the batch itself and may be good or bad depending on the current batch profile and expectations. Moreover, people don’t pursue EMBA to get placed in a high salary package. They already have a job with a high package. What they are looking for is an enhancement of their managerial skills and the IIM tag.

So I will not recommend you leave your high-paying job and pursue EMBA especially if you are looking for a better CTC. Not even other B Schools will get you a high package right off the bat. But if you are still adamant about pursuing the program you may take a study leave I suggest.

An MBA helps you in the long run and not instantly. You should be willing to take the risk for maximum results.

How should I prepare for my interview in IISc Bangalore for the Integrated PhD course in Physics? I appeared in JAM 2016.

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 17th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

I was interviewed at IISc Bangalore for an integrated Ph.D. in Physics. Once you get an interview call, your JAM marks or rank do not matter.

You will give an interview to a panel of 5 to 6 professors, each one of whom will be an expert in their field. In the beginning,  you are asked about your UG studies and favorite topics in Physics. After this, you are asked questions and thoroughly examined.

Be very clear with the basics of Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics, and Mathematical Physics. You can be asked anything from them. Truncated Harmonic Oscillator and Finite Square Well are important topics that are routinely asked during a Physics interview.

You should accept it if you do not know about a topic or did not study it. This is because the panelists easily assess what you know and what you do not know. If you do not know a topic and the panelists are in a good mood, you will be asked to get into the ‘let’s figure out’ mode, else, they will move on to another topic.

My interview experience at IISc Bangalore was quite good. I was not selected for the iPh.D. Physics program but the interview aided my growth and knowledge. I would recommend you enjoy the interview at IISc Bangalore and also give it well-prepared.

Which is best -MBA in finance from ISB Hyderabad or top IIMS A/B/C??

PS
Prakriti Sharma Posted On : January 30th, 2023
PGP from Indian School of Business (Graduated 2019)

ISB Hyderabad is known for its lack of specialization in Finance. It’s a common understanding now that even if one is preferring ISB Hyderabad for admission, they know that they should go for anything but Finance. Studying some aspects will give you a deeper insight as to why MBA in Finance from ISB Hyderabad is not recommended.

Faculty: Although the visiting faculty is quite decent, it’s the domestic faculty that has ruined the culture at ISB. They are arrogant, pathetic, and extremely incapable. They insult the students regularly and disturb student-teacher relations.

Placements: The roles offered in Finance were below average like Operations, Sales, and BD roles. Such roles were offered in abundance by the banks or start-ups. However, the superior roles like IB/PE/VC/M&A/FP&A/Equity Research/Credit Rating/Asset Management/TAS were offered scarcely. For instance

  • only 10 FP and A roles were allotted that too only to CAs
  • Only one Investment banking role was offered by Barclays
  • Only 5 PE/bc roles were offered and there was a strong preference for a prior IB/PE/VC experience and IIT undergraduate background.
  • One M and A role was offered only
  • 4 Asset Management and zero Equity Research and Credit Rating roles were offered.

So the best roles were offered limitedly while the batch size stood at 900. Most students ended up with unsatisfactory placements. Now you can decide whether or not to join if you are confident to face the placement scenario.

Is it worth choosing IIM Ranchi, Trichy for MBA in terms of placement and future scope?

SK
Shravan Kumar Posted On : January 11th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2018)

Yes, you can easily choose IIM Ranchi or Trichy based on their placement statistics because the placement scenarios at both IIMs seem promising despite the lack of infrastructure and campus facilities. In many cases, Trichy and Ranchi have exchanged leads outside the ABC and LIK worlds. All can be overcome if you are taught by the best professors.

Elaborating further, IIM Trichy seems better than Ranchi or Rohtak to me. The reason being the superior teaching methods and its favorable location both for students as well as recruiters. Apart from Trichy, other IIMs are also doing fairly well compared to non-CAT MBA institutes. These are doing well with the help of sponsor IIMs which arrange faculty and placements. These in turn select their own Directors and invest in the infrastructure required in another 3–4 years as Trichy and Ranch have already done.

Is joining School of Law, NMIMS (Mumbai) worth it for a BA LLB? How good is the faculty? Do they have a hostel facility? What is the fee structure?

KB
Komal Bora Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2018)

In case you are not able to make it into the top 6 National Law Universities, considering NMIMS law school is definitely a good choice. The school has updates to the semester system which earlier was a trimester one.

Faculty: The institute is expanding at a fast rate and its faculty is also changing, bringing in more dynamic staff. The faculty is proficient in their respective fields and adopts the best pedagogy.

Fees: The total NMIMS B.A.L.L.B. fees for this session is INR 5.1 L - 15 L.

Hostel fees: Boys- INR 1.60 L - 2.35 L/yr; Girls- IN 1.60 L - 2.35 L/yr.

However, the hostels are highly not recommended owing to the following reasons

  • Only 6 seats for law students
  • Non A/C accommodation
  • Strict rules and timings
