Do you regret joining IIT Bombay?

SA
Subhashree Adhikari Posted On : March 18th, 2023
B.Tech from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) (2019)

I know a friend who is currently in her second semester and she shared a few pieces of information regarding the scenario there.

As everyone says, joining IIT Bombay was indeed a very fun-filled experience and it satisfies all your cravings for a rich college life experience.

However, after a few days, she became aware of some harsh realities. Due to the relaxed ambiance, she stopped focusing on academics and was not among the toppers anymore. This affected her confidence a lot. She started feeling inferior to her peers and considered herself just an average student. She started anticipating if her decision to join IIT Bombay was even worth it. Eventually, she realized that she was mistaken and the truth was way different. She realized a few things she wasn’t able to ascertain before

  • She was able to learn such things she could not have learned anywhere else
  • She had learned to work more than her capabilities and push her limit by studying with many geniuses
  • She got to know her worth when compared to people in the same field
  • Life at IIT Bombay made her all the more humble and mature, ready to face life challenges strongly.

She eventually did not regret joining IIT Bombay even a bit. She gave it the credit for grooming her overall personality.

Getting CSE at Thapar University as well as Jaypee Noida (JIIT) , which college should I choose?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : August 8th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

Had you asked this question 4-5 years ago, the common answer would have been Thapar University. However, things have changed a lot in the last few years. Here are some reasons why I would suggest you to go for JIIT Noida for your B.Tech CSE-

  1. The crowd quality at Thapar University has gone down drastically. The reasons behind this are a 50% quota for Punjab students and the enormous increase in the number of seats. Both these actions have resulted in very low cut offs. The cutoff rank for Punjab students in JEE Mains is 1.5 Lakh+ for CSE department. The closing rank of JIIT Noida for the same is around 51 K+. Thus, the crowd is better in JIIT Noida as compared to Thapar.
  2. The batch size at Thapar University is much bigger than JIIT N. Thapar University has a batch size of 1200+ students for Computers while JIIT Noida has a batch size of only 250+ students. A smaller batch size means more placement opportunities and better attention towards the learning of each student.
  3. Location-wise, NCR offers more opportunities than Patiala. You will get numerous opportunities in NCR like trade shows, conferences, training, better placements, etc. Gurgaon and Noida are the new IT Hubs, second only to Bangalore and at par with Hyderabad and Pune. As a CSE student, you should prefer Noida over Patiala.
  4. Though Thapar University has a bigger campus of 250 acres, your life will mostly revolve around your classrooms, nearby areas and your hostel. Thus, the smaller campus of JIIT N should not be that big an obstacle.
  5. The average package for B.Tech CSE is around INR 13.28 LPA at JIIT Noida, which is better than Thapar University in which the average package for the UG stream stands at around INR 10.97 LPA. Studying at JIIT Noida is also around 30-40% cheaper than Thapar.

Thus, at present, CSE from JIIT Noida is a much better choice.

Which one is better, IIM Calcutta or IIM Bangalore? Why?

SG
Sunidhi Garg Posted On : March 11th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur

IIM Calcutta Vs. IIM Bangalore debate is a never-ending one, and there is no clear winner. Both of these institutes are among the top in management education and have their advantages.

  • Faculty wise there are no such differences between the two IIMs.
  • In terms of location, IIM Bangalore is definitely better. The city is a hub of industry houses, so you will get better placement opportunities and exposure.
  • Contrary to the various rumors, placement at IIM A, B, and C is almost similar.
  • IIM C offers a wide array of electives. You are free to choose from a huge variety of courses depending on your interests and career plans.

Both institutes are at the top of their game and will offer you many opportunities to grow.

What is it like to study at NLSIU, Bangalore?

AB
Aditi Bhattacharjee Posted On : May 3rd, 2023
National Law School of India University, Bangalore

While it is true that your quality of work will ultimately be your identity in the workplace, there are many benefits to studying at a prestigious university. At the same time, it is important to be aware of the potential drawbacks.

Let's explore both the pros and cons of studying at a top institution:

Pros:

  • Studying with the best minds in the country can elevate your intelligence level and help you learn from your peers.
  • Good faculty members who challenge you to think critically and question everything around you can foster a deeper understanding of your subject matter.
  • Exposure to the market is immense because you have access to alumni who hold senior positions. This can provide valuable networking opportunities and insights into the industry.
  • Being constantly under pressure to match the standards set by your seniors can help you strive harder and develop a strong work ethic.
  • Being part of a great institution can give you a good reputation in the market, provided you are technically sound, which can only happen if you work hard.

Cons:

  • The assurance of a good job can lead to laziness in academics, which is not advisable.
  • A feeling of elitism can prevent you from learning new things, which is crucial in any field, including law.
  • A tendency to be snobbish towards students of other schools is not a mature approach.
  • Academic pressure can be stressful and can take a toll on your mental health.

It is important to keep in mind that there is always a trade-off. While studying at a top institution can offer many advantages, there are also drawbacks that must be considered.

It is unnecessary to make a big fuss about studying at a top institution, but it is something to be proud of. While it can provide many benefits, it is important to keep yourself grounded and continue to grow as an individual and a professional. Ultimately, it is your quality of work and dedication that will define you, not just the name of the university you attended.

How good is college of engineering Pune?

VK
Vrushali Kashyap Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology, Pune Institute of Computer Technology (2019)

This college is one of the best engineering colleges in Maharashtra but not good enough to be one of the best in the country. As far as the college is concerned, it is the 3rd oldest college in Asia and its buildings reflect that. However, on the inside, they are very well redesigned and well equipped.

Overall, the campus has an area of 36 acres which is obviously smaller than other IITs and NITs that have 100-acre campuses. The college definitely has its own hostel but it is not big enough to house all students.

Being autonomous, it definitely updates its curriculum regularly with industry requirements and has also won quite a few accolades for the same. As far as the crowd is concerned, you will see that most of the students are Maharashtrians coming from different parts of the state but it is a healthy mix of athletes, studious individuals, and people with different talents.

Texas Instruments, Wipro, TCS, IBM, Accenture, Capgemini, etc.

If you are keen on joining clubs, there are many like Robotics, Satellite, Drama, Writing and Radio. These are mainly spearheaded by students and you can join any of them based on your interest. There are also a number of fests like Tech fests, Sports fests, and other cultural festivals and all of them are quite popular.

Labs are also fully functional and will usually cater to all your needs. Most instruments are functional, but you might find one or two that are bumpy here and there. The college has recruiting companies like HSBC, Qouvantis, and Mahindra to visit the college. However, with COVID 19, the situation might be a little different.

While BVP is not in the top engineering colleges of India, it is decent enough for the opportunities it offers. You can apply here if you are looking to do so.

What are some good engineering colleges in Pune?

SG
Syantani Ghosh Posted On : February 19th, 2021
B.E Computer Science, University of Pune (2017)

The College of Engineering Pune is among the best institutes in Pune. The architecture dates back to 1854. The campus was planned by British-American architect and planner Christopher Charles Benninger. The architecture is such that you will feel like you are in Hogwarts, especially in the main building on the south campus.

Campus:

  • The College of Engineering, Pune campus has a separate playground, and the hostel complex can accommodate approximately 3,000 to 4,000 candidates.
  • There are two sides, i.e. the north side and the south side, namely. Though there is huge traffic around the college, it is hardly a disturbance.

Environment:

The environment in the college is very welcoming. You will always find people studying. You will find them, especially in the Civil drawing hall.

Library:

The library has a great stock of books. It has books as old as the college itself.

Tie-ups:

The college has tie-ups with institutions that will enable you to have resources for free which otherwise are usually paid for.

Internet Facilities:

In addition to these, the campus has free wifi and the allowance is 1GB every day varying from 100kbps to 10mbps.

Extra-curricular Activities:

  • The institute has one of the oldest boat clubs.
  • The college also has an annual festival called Regatta.

There are also many other things worth maintaining about the campus. If you want to know more google about the campus. You can also visit the campus in person.

Do students from IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI bunk classes like engineering students?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : February 28th, 2023
CSE IITK'15, IIMA Batch of 2015-17

At IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI, attendance is seen as a crucial aspect of the learning experience. Every effort must be made to be present in class and to participate actively in the discussions. In fact, class participation is considered to be such an important factor in determining grades that a significant portion of the total course weightage is allocated to it. This system is in place to encourage students to be engaged in the learning process and to ensure that they are taking full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

On the other hand, at IIT Kanpur, there is a more relaxed approach to attendance. While it is still advisable to attend classes and to be present for lectures, there is no strict requirement in place. This gives students more flexibility and allows them to choose when they want to attend classes based on their personal schedules or other commitments. It also means that engineering students are not penalized if they miss a class or two, as long as they are able to make up for it by participating in other ways, such as completing assignments or preparing for exams.

Overall, both B-schools and Engineering colleges have different approaches to attendance and class participation. While IIM Ahmedabad places a strong emphasis on being present in class and participating actively, IIT Kanpur takes a more relaxed approach. Ultimately, the choice between the two institutions will depend on the individual student's preferences and learning style.
