What is the admission process for PUMBA Pune, is there any management quota seat there?

TA
Tejas Agarwal Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Student at DMS PUMBA

Candidates who are allotted seats by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) need to confirm their admission at the Department of Management Sciences (PUMBA) by submitting their original documents and paying the fees during CAP Round 1 & 2, as per the specified dates by DTE. Seat allotment is done based on ranking or percentiles obtained in CET exams through CAP Rounds 1, 2, and 3.

It is important to note that only after being selected through CAP rounds, candidates become eligible for admission to PUMBA. There are no management quota seats available in PUMBA as it is a government department and one of India's premier business schools, which operates autonomously under Savitribai Phule Pune University.

What are my chances of getting admission in PUMBA at 92.02 %ile in MAH-CET? What are the other colleges I can apply for at the same percentile for MBA? I belong to open category. HU student.

First of all, congrats on that percentile. Since the cutoff is 98-99+ and you are from the general category, unfortunately your percentile is not enough for PUMBA. Using your CET score, you can still apply for PGDM courses in different NL Dalmia, Wellingkar, KJSIMSR Mumbai, XIMR Mumbai, and Chetana institutions.

Which of these colleges is better for an MBA in finance, PUMBA or the SIES?

AB

Based on the available data and rankings, SIES is a better choice than PUMBA in terms of academic excellence, campus infrastructure, faculty, and placements. SIESCOMS is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and has been ranked among the top 100 B-Schools in India by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework).

SIESCOMS is known for its strong industry interface and focus on research. PUMBA may not be suitable for experienced professionals, as it is said to be a place for freshers. The learning experience at PUMBA may also not be as rigorous as some of the top B-schools in India. It’s especially true if a student is looking for top-notch placements and a rigorous learning experience, which is why SIES is the better option out of the two.

I am planning to take admission in PUMBA for MBA Finance. How are the placements and what kind of roles are offered to core finance students?

TA
Tejas Agarwal Posted On : May 2nd, 2023
Student at DMS PUMBA

Choosing PUMBA for an MBA in Finance is a decent choice. Due to the fact that this college's MBA graduates' average salary is 8.10 LPA.

During their recent placement drive, PUMBA received about 122 businesses, and their highest offer to date was 18 LPA. Their tuition fee is also a little expensive given the campus area (414 acres) and the location in Maharashtra.

If the number of available seats for admission in PUMBA remains 180 for the next academic year, then there is a very strong possibility that you might get admission into PUMBA until the 3rd CAP (Centralized Admission Process) round.

How is PUMBA for experienced students?

PC
Purnima Roy Choudhury Posted On : June 23rd, 2021
MBA-PBT Marketing & Pharma and Biotech, Department of Management Sciences, University of Pune (2019)

One of my friends is a recent alumnus of the institute and shared better opinions on the same. PUMBA is a great institute for experienced students, with regard to both the learning structure and placements. It however partially also depends on how you explore or take part in the learning procedure of the institute.

The faculty at PUMBA is helpful and is also well experienced. You can be part of learning various new aspects if you are keen to explore them.

Here is a brief placement report of PUMBA in recent years.

Number of Companies Participated

100+

Highest CTC

INR. 16.5 LPA

Average CTC

INR. 6.43 LPA

Recruiting Companies

A1 fence, Aditya Birla, Sun Life Insurance, Aeon Credit Systems, Infosys, Tata Technologies

You should also keep consistent communication with the faculty, alumni base and keep on participating in several events because it can contribute to enhancing your knowledge and skills.

Should I wait for one year and try for an MBA or join PUMBA as a fresher?

PS
Parag Sinha Posted On : May 25th, 2023
Department of Management Sciences, University of Pune (PUMBA)

If you are a fresher, I advise you to give it another go and take the CAT, XAT, and other management tests the following year. A high CAT percentile will lead to various opportunities for you.

It can be worthwhile to wait and reapply if you are convinced that you can raise your profile during the following year and get accepted into a more prestigious MBA program that better fits your professional objectives.

On the other hand, entering PUMBA might be a good choice right now if you want to start your career early and obtain job experience. Executive MBA programs can be pursued at a later time in your career.
