Should I go for an MBA at IBS Hyderabad, or in UPES Dehradun?
I hope you have already decided on your specialization. So it’s better that you go for that specific course than a regular MBA at UPES Dehradun. If you take up the regular MBA you will have to study general subjects in the first year and your choice of specialization subjects in the second. Whereas if you go for MBA in International Business or Logistics and Supply Chain Management, you'll be taught subjects concerning that specialization from semester one itself. This will help you in the long run.
One more thing you should know is that for International Business, IBS Hyderabad is a much better choice than UPES. The placement scenario at UPES for IB is yet to improve.
Should I go with IBS Hyderabad or Woxsen Hyderabad?
IBS Hyderabad has many shortcomings when compared to Woden Hyderabad which is a relatively new college. Some major drawbacks IBS faces today are
- Batch-size: The biggest flaw is the huge batch size that obstructs personal attention to its students. Woxsen on the other hand has a much smaller batch size and promotes better teamwork and peer interaction. The smaller batch size at Woxen ensures the entire batch is taught by extremely talented faculty whereas the large batch size of ISB does not let the entire batch taught by the best professors. The visiting faculty who are the industry’s top-notch experienced professionals only conduct auditorium sessions and thus not the entire batch can attend.
- Campus life: IBS Hyderabad has a much livelier campus life being new and decked with world class facilities. Its infrastructure speaks of the most modern example of internationally acclaimed architecture. Whereas IBS has shared housing, substandard infrastructure and a submissive environment.
- Growth: Woxen has been growing at a spectacular rate and its placement statistics are a testament to that. Top companies like Amazon, KPMG, Virtusa, HDFC, and ICICI Sec visit Woxsen for placements.
The only advantage IBS Hyderabad has over Woxen is its legacy of being one of the oldest B Schools in India. Because of its early establishment, it now attracts a pool of the best recruiters better than that at Woxen.
Can you please set the preference order for the following MBA colleges: IBS-Hyderabad, IMT-Nagpur, XIME-Banglore, Welingkar-Mumbai, Bimtech-Noida?
Honestly speaking all the B Schools you mentioned are just glamorous brand names with no real value. The placement scenario is very pathetic here as the companies that visit are looking for students who can work at fewer salaries. Only the extremely meritorious students get good packages and that too is rare.
So I will suggest that if you have scored 95+ in CAT, then you are capable of more. So work hard and target a better B School next year. Remove these colleges from your list of options and attempt CAT again.
If you are not very sure about attempting CAT again then prepare yourself for a package as low as 5-6 LPA.
Which college is better for pursuing an MBA - IBS Hyderabad, ISB Hyderabad, or Symbiosis?
The best option among these is ISB Hyderabad. It is compared to B-Schools like IIM A, B, C. It will be an ideal fit for you if you have prior work experience of around 5 years. ISB Hyderabad placements are excellent with high salary packages. The average CTC offered to the 2022 batch was INR 34 LPA.
IBS Hyderabad can be a great option if you don’t have any work experience. According to the recent placement highlights, the average CTC received by the students of IBS is around INR 7.97 LPA.
Symbiosis isn’t in the same league as these B-Schools. If you are interested in a career in HR, you can consider Symbiosis.
How is the food in IBS Hyderabad?
Commenting on the taste of food is subjective and totally depends on one’s taste buds. While some may enjoy a certain dish others may dislike it. So for the definite answer, you will have to personally taste the food to know if it’s good or not.
The food is provided through a 4-meal per day program including breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. They keep changing the variety of food offered so as to meet the tastes of everyone in general.
There are 2 Mess facilities at IBS Hyderabad one is close to the boy's hostel while one is closer to the girl's hostel. You can get enrolled in any one of your choices at your convenience.
There are gingers on the ground floor of hostels to cater to your midnight cravings and birthday parties.
Overall the food served at IBS Hyderabad is decent, hygienic, and healthy and is better than many other colleges.

But the Times ranking or Career Launcher ranking is more realistic and based on practical parameters. According to these rankings, the preference order of the institutes is as follows.

How is the placement of the IBS Hyderabad in finance?
Many get confused between ISB and IBS Hyderabad. The former is a top B School with high Global rankings while the latter is a mediocre college.
As far as placements are concerned, they depend more on an individual’s profile, skills, knowledge, and personality than the college they hail from. Yet I have to admit having IBS on your resume will definitely limit your chances of getting a decent package. This is because the brand value is low and it does not meet the standards of the top B Schools. I know a friend who after graduating from IBS did his internships at a top bank and ever since then has been unemployed in the search of a decent job.
My personal advice regarding higher education is that it’s better to invest and go for a college that will add value to your resume in the future than spend less money and go for a mediocre college that might make the job-hunting game a difficult one for you.
For an average student, is IBS Hyderabad a good choice?
To succeed in an MBA program, it is crucial to work hard and strive to be above average. Average profiles can be found in top institutes such as IIMs. The success of the program is determined by the benefit gained from it during the two years spent in the institute.
ICFAI Business School (IBS) is one of the oldest business schools in India with campuses in Hyderabad and Mumbai being considered the best. During the 2022 placements, IBS Hyderabad recorded a placement percentage of 99% with an average package offered at INR 8.71 LPA. The highest international and domestic package offered was INR 53.45 LPA and INR 21 LPA, respectively. The placement rate was 97%. Top recruiters in 2022 included Google, TCS, and L&T.
It is advisable to talk to seniors and alumni of the institute to gain more information that will aid in making better decisions. If a specific role or company is in mind, one should inquire about sectoral and functional placements.
What choice should I make, IBS Hyderabad or Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow for an MBA?
IBS is known for calling all candidates to Hyderabad for counseling and then informing them that they have been admitted to a different branch of IBS in another location. This does not provide the candidate with the opportunity to go home and make an informed decision based on research.
If you are admitted to the main IBS Hyderabad campus, it would be a good option.
However, other branches of ICFAI are not highly ranked. In that case, the Jaipuria Institute of Management in Lucknow is a better option. The author personally recommends the Jaipuria Institute of Management due to their overall experience there. The institute places a lot of emphasis on the overall grooming of students, and their placement opportunities are a major factor in the recommendation.
Which one is better for pursuing an MBA: IBS Hyderabad or IIM Sambalpur?
First of all, it’s wrong to compare IIM Sambalpur with a below-average institution like IBS Hyderabad. IIM Sambalpur might be a new IIM but it is still among the tier 3 colleges whereas IBS Hyderabad is nowhere near.
My friend is currently pursuing an MBA from IIM Sambalpur and has listed the following pros and cons of the institute
Pros
- Under the mentorship of IIM Indore, IIM Sambalpur is slowly making its mark in the IIM family. It welcomes visiting faculties from IIM Indore which also shares the research work and other material with Sambalpur
- IIM Sambalpur might soon become an educational center as it hosts one of the oldest engineering colleges of the state which is on its way to becoming an IIEST, a very reputed government medical college and a couple of other well-known government universities.
- The airstrip near the city might soon become an airport in the near future thereby enhancing connectivity.
- Although it functions from a leased campus, the infrastructure is top notch
Cons
- It does not have its own campus and functions from leased premises
- The campus is situated 20 km away from the city and the nearest railway station in a lowly private engineering college.
- The placement is nowhere near the IIM standards
- Weak alumni base due to recent establishment
- The faculties are mediocrely experienced
- The lack of connectivity is a major reason for poor placements. The nearest functional airport is in Bhubaneswar, 350 km away.
All in all IIM Sambalpur is a decent choice if you are passionate about the IIM tag only and have limited options. Some years down the line it might improve in brand value as well. So go for it if it’s the tag you are after but go for ISB if you want a better teaching experience.
