How is mechanical engineering at IIT Dharwad?
Mechanical Engineering studies are good at IIT Dharwad. The academics of IIT Dharwad has always been great, experienced faculty members from IIT Bombay taught courses to its students since the beginning of this college
As for Mechanical specifically-
- The Mechanical faculty consists of professors from IIT Bombay, and other highly skilled academicians.
- The curriculum is the same as that of IIT Bombay Mechanical.
- The department has separate labs for different courses. The lab equipment is either new or from the IIT Bombay labs.
- Prof. Prabhu of the Mechanical Department is a highly respected faculty member at IIT Bombay. He is very hardworking and learned. He has over 2000 citations.
- The peers of Mechanical are very friendly and cooperative.
IIT Dharwad Mechanical will give you ample exposure and good academics, despite being a new institution.
How good is CSE at the newer IITs, such as Dharwad, Goa, Dhanbad, and Bhilai?
As a second year B.Tech CSE student at IIT Dharwad, I can give you a fair idea of my department/college.
IIT Dharwad got IIT Bombay as its mentor, so we follow their curriculum for CSE. Each semester comprises the mid sem exam, quizzes and the end sem exam. The curriculum is designed for a smooth learning process, so we do not jump right away to difficult concepts after learning the programming syntax. Not everyone knows the basics of C++ and other programming languages, so this smooth transition is very helpful.
Prof. Abhiram Ranade teaches CS101 during the 1st sem. He is a faculty member of IIT Bombay. He is a highly experienced teacher and he teaches the basics of C++ and other programming languages very well. He is very soft spoken. The entire department faculty is highly competent and experienced. The Computer Lab is air-conditioned, and open for 24*7 access. The All-in-one PC’s are great for completing lab assignments without any hassle.
The new IITs are making quick progress, and IIT Dharwad has the benefit of being close to the IT hub of India. So, placements and internships are more easily accessible. You can definitely consider this college for your B.Tech CSE.
Which should I prefer, IIT Dharwad CSE or IIIT Gwalior CSE?
If you wish to join an IIT, and IIT Dharwad seems to be a confusing option, you can opt for electrical at 2nd gen IITs like Ropar or Bhubaneswar. You can also opt for ECE at IIT Dhanbad. You’ll easily get these options with your rank. Else, you may opt for ECE in IIIT Allahabad. All these options will give you good placements and good peers. You’ll get ample exposure at these campuses.
As for IIT Dharwad vs IIIT Gwalior CSE, the second option is better. However, the scenario may not remain the same in coming years because both the colleges are in their developing stage.
How is electrical engineering at IIT Tirupati?
IIT Tirupati is a 3rd gen IIT, established in 2015. Despite that, its electrical engineering department is doing decently well. It offers decent research and internship opportunities.
The department faculty is qualified and experienced. It has strong industry connections, and the teachers are themselves actively involved in research work. One can work on research projects under a faculty member, or participate in summer research programs. The department labs are in a good condition.
As for placements of the 2023 batch, as of now, 64.44% B.Tech electrical students have been successfully placed from the campus. The highest package stands at INR 22 LPA, the average at INR 16.51 LPA, and the median package at 16.50 LPA, for the batch.
IIT Tirupati offers a decent B.Tech Electrical Engineering program, and you can consider it as one of the options.
How is mechanical engineering at IIT Tirupati?
Congratulations on getting IIT Tirupati for your B.Tech Mechanical. The department is good, and the faculty is highly experienced.
Here are some pros and cons of joining Mechanical at IIT Tirupati-
- The batch strength is small, so you won’t face as much competition as the students of other colleges.
- The professors are highly qualified, and some of them have retired from prestigious colleges like IIT Kanpur and Madras.
- Even the new faculty members are highly qualified and student-friendly.
- The curriculum consists of the design course AUTOCAD in first sem, and the 3d design course CREO PARAMETRIC as a core subject in 3rd sem.
- These design courses are very interesting and provide good industry exposure. These courses will clear your basics so that you can intern in the design stream without difficulty.
- The third year students get internship offers from prestigious companies like Ashok Leyland and L&T. The department students also pursue their research internships at [prestigious institutions like Texas A&M University.

How is computer science at IIT Tirupati? What about the faculty and other facilities?
Here is some information about B.Tech CSE at IIT Tirupati-
- Faculty- Most professors of the CSE department have completed their Phds. from IISc Bangalore, IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras. Some teachers dropped their successful corporate careers to follow their passion for teaching. The faculty is mostly passionate and knowledgeable. But there are obviously some boring teachers as well.
- Facilities- The college library has a decent collection of books, and the department labs are well-equipped. The library remains open till 9 pm. The college currently operates from a Transit campus, and a lot of it is under construction. But it has decent hostels, a dining room, and grounds/courts for various sports. Students are provided with almost all the necessary facilities.
- Placements- Even though IIT Tirupati is a 3rd gen IIT, it offers good placements in B.Tech CSE. As for 2023 placements, till now 77.55% B.Tech CSE students have been successfully placed from the campus. The highest package is at 46 LPA, the average package is 25.25 LPA, and the median package is 20.32 LPA. Your placement will depend on your coding and problem solving skills. The department students get internship opportunities at IIT Madras and at various industries.
- Coding Environment- The coding environment is good. The college students have qualified for regional ACM ICPC in the past.
Thus, IIT Tirupati is a decent option for B.Tech CSE.
Will IIT Tirupati be a good option for an M.Tech in CSE or should I go for IIT spot rounds?
Congrats on getting an IIT for your M.Tech CSE.
As for IIT Tirupati, even though it started its M.Tech intake only a few years ago, it offers decent placements for M.Tech CSE. During 2022, the M.Tech CSE branch of IIT Tirupati recorded an average package of 16 LPA. Moreover, all 8 registered students were successfully placed from the campus. IIT Tirupati carries the prestigious ‘IIT tag’ which will be beneficial for your placement. But most importantly, your skillset will get you placed.
If your rank is not that good and you aren’t sure about IIT Tirupati, you can try for IIT Dhanbad, BHU or Guwahati in the spot rounds. You can even try for admission into a good NIT.
I got a PhD in IIT Tirupati. Is it worth it?
This answer is based on my experience of the current market. A Phd. from a top branded institute is good, but you’ll have to market yourself.
The employers search for candidates who have clear goals. They will try to figure out why you choose a certain subject and college and your past achievements, among other things.
Try to have a look at the placement figures of IIT Tirupati for Phd., and consult the faculty members in this regard.
Brand name has its own value, but you must have a good grasp on your subject to clear interviews. This applies to any branch or college student.
