What is the saddest part of IIIT Delhi?
The saddest part of IIIT Delhi is its poor reputation and deteriorating brand name. It’s still unknown among the masses because it’s a developing institute. Moreover, the additional I in IIIT stands for Indraprastha and not International so this is also a big disappointment.
Most people confuse IIIT Delhi with IIT Delhi because the former is unknown while the latter is highly reputed. The sad part is that IIIT Delhi is an excellent college in terms of academics, infrastructure, and highly qualified faculty members. But its brand name and reputation have affected its growth terribly.
What was / were the CGPA(s) of the guys who got Google, Facebook, Amazon etc top tier IT companies from IIIT H / BITS Pilani / IITs / DTU/ NSIT/NITs ?
One of my brothers' seniors at NIT Trichy got an offer from Google. He is from Metallurgical and Materials with a CGPA of 7.6. He has an excellent CV comprising his achievements like
- Summer intern in 2014 at Google HQ.
- Summer intern in 2015 at Microsoft.
- Internship at Facebook HQ.
Currently, he is pursuing MS from NYU in Computer Science (Machine Learning). He is a shining example of ‘ Your success depends on your hard work and skills and not your CGPA’.
Are the extension campuses of BIT, Mesra in Jaipur, Deoghar, Allahabad etc. as good as Mesra itself (especially the placements)?
My brother is a student at the Jaipur extension campus of BIT Mesra. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of the Jaipur extension campus in particular, and all the extension campuses in general-
Disadvantages-
- The infrastructure is poor and not at par with the BIT Mesra main campus.
- The Jaipur campus offers limited courses and so, networking opportunities are limited.
- The Jaipur campus offers no hostel facility. However, you will be provided a list of PGs and Flats available near the campus as a form of assistance.
Advantages -
- You will get the BIT Mesra tag on your degree. This tag will help you for placements and higher studies. The faculty at the Jaipur campus is highly qualified.
- For placements, you can visit the BIT Mesra main campus and compete head-on with the main campus students. The Jaipur campus’s small batch allows for easier and better placements. Companies like Samsung R&D, SAP Labs, Amdocs, Verizon, etc. and also startups, offer good packages during placements. Core companies visit the campus every year for recruitments.
- The coding culture at BIT Jaipur is good and the students actively participate in ACM-ICPC and GSOC.
- BIT Jaipur students are doing really well in GATE and CAT. Many students from this institution receive offers for an MS from reputed foreign universities like Cornell, University of California San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, etc.
- The BIT Mesra Jaipur branch is located in Malviya Nagar. It is a safe area with plenty of industries for good internship opportunities.
Overall, the Jaipur extension of BIT Mesra, and in fact all its extensions have some associated advantages and disadvantages. But as far as placements are concerned, each extension offers the same facilities as the main campus. In particular, the Jaipur campus also offers good internship opportunities due to its favorable location.
Are there any people with poor academic record who still got into any IIM, XLRI or FMS? If yes, why not share your stories here?
Yes, there are many people who converted IIM, XLRI, FMS calls, even with a poor academic record. I personally know someone who scored less than 50 percentile in engineering yet got accepted at XLRI. He performed well in MBA and now works as a senior HR at a major eCommerce company.
Academic record isn’t the only thing that these institute takes into consideration while selecting students. Your entrance examination score, performance in GD-PI, extracurricular achievements, etc. are equally important.
What is the latest procedure of completing WES educational assessment for Canada from Pune University?
According to the facts I learned from the internet, the process is very simple. You just have to precisely follow the steps given and all will be done.
- Take all the required original documents which you need to send to WES.
- Take 2 sets of photocopies of these originals.
- Register yourself at Pune University Network as a student.
- Choose the Third last option that is ‘Certificate Attestation’.
- Then enter all the Documents which you want to get attested.
- Click the ‘Save and Next’ button and enter the number of envelopes required.
- Click ‘Save Envelope’ and then click ‘Back’.
- Click on ‘Proceed to Print’ & choose your method of payment.
- Click on ‘Save and Print’. Download 2 files, ‘Application form’ and ‘Fees Challan’.
- Now go create an account at World Education Services and get your WES reference number after paying the fees online approx ?12,000.
- Get 2 prints of WES application form. Do not fill them now.
Now you will have the following things in hand before visiting the University: Set of Original Documents, 2 Sets of photocopies, Application form, Challan, WES Reference Number. But this is incomplete, as you will need to fill WES form.
WES Form:
- Fill both WES forms that you have.
- Pay the required fees at the Bank counter.
- Then they will accept your full application containing Photocopies & WES form along with the paid challan.
Visit after 8 days. Show the challan student copy. Check the documents for Sign and Stamp on all photocopies - including the WES form. Put all the documents inside including the WES form in the envelope, for being stamped.
Which will be better, CSE at IIT Mandi, DTU, NSIT, BITS GOA or any NIT (Warangal)?
For CSE, BITS Goa is the best option among the colleges mentioned here. The student crowd for the branch is almost as good as BITS Pilani. The cutoff difference between the campuses isn’t much.
BITS Goa CSE placements are pretty good. According to the placement highlights, the average package for the branch is INR 12 LPA.
The coding culture at BITS Goa is better than all the institutes mentioned here.
How is your experience at KIIT?
Initially, KIIT was a backup plan for me. I thought that because I couldn’t get into the IITs or BITS, I wouldn’t make a good engineer. KIIT completely changed my perception with its teaching methodology. I have grown immense confidence over here.
One of my teachers at KIIT guides me on the various opportunities that lie ahead for me. He also gives me valuable guidance on how I can become the best version of myself. We receive every tip and all the facilities that are needed to become a successful engineer. I feel that this is the place that I always needed.
KIIT has an Institute of Eminence(IoE) tag. One of my seniors got placed in his dream company, Robert Bosch.
Another published a paper in IEEE under her professor. An alumnus told me about the semester exchange program in Taiwan, the benefits of which he is reaping in his professional life.
There are various extracurricular activities at KIIT. There are societies, fests, seminars, workshops, etc. which help with our personality development.
KIIT is a very good choice to pursue your studies.

CGPA and SGPA to percentage conversion at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune:
SPPU uses:
Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) × 10
same formula applies for SGPA to semester percentage: Percentage = (SGPA - 0.5) × 10
examples:
- CGPA 8.0 ? (8.0 - 0.5) × 10 = 75%
- SGPA 7.5 ? (7.5 - 0.5) × 10 = 70%
this is SPPU's officially published formula under the CBCGS scheme. for official documentation purposes (job applications, higher studies), get a conversion certificate from your college which is attested by SPPU. some employers and foreign universities ask for formal documentation rather than self-calculated figures. check the latest SPPU circular at unipune.ac.in if you want to verify the currently applicable formula for your specific batch.
How are IIM A students different from students of, say, SP Jain, NMIMS, FMS or JB?
The peer pool of IIM Ahmedabad varies from that of other B-schools like SP Jain, FMS, and NMIMS because of the admission criteria and quality of intake. The majority of the IIM Ahmedabad batch comprises performing students with CAT percentile almost touching 100 percentile. and most of them got close to the 100 percentile in CAT and they get opportunities to study business studies in IIM A, B, and C. Very few students get into IIMs through the process of diversification only if they scored more than 80 percent grade in Xth, XII th and Graduate Examinations. The other B schools like SP Jain, FMS, NMIMS, or JB don’t have such strict criteria and the peer pool comprises students from diverse academic profiles rather than just top CAT rankers.
This is the major point of difference between the two kinds of B Schools. As a result of this, IIM Ahmedabad students are offered better placement opportunities at the global level than these average B-schools.
How is the life of a middle class student at the Manipal Institute of Technology?
I am assuming that you wish to know if the crowd at MIT is friendly. As a middle class student, even I was afraid of being left out while joining MIT. I feared that the students might have hierarchies of sorts, based on wealth and social status.
As an introvert, it was especially difficult for me to approach my batchmates. But the cultural diversity of my batch made me curious to know each one of the students.
To overcome my hesitation, I decided to go and talk to my batchmates during breaks. I admit that it's quite nerve wracking to approach a stranger and talk to them.
I was pleasantly surprised that everyone was very sweet and welcoming. None was rude or arrogant, instead, they were as willing as me to drive the conversation ahead. This gave me so much confidence that I kept increasing my network beyond my batch.
Earlier, I looked at people as mere strangers. Now I noticed how different each person was. Everyone had their own stories and passions.
Through my experience I wanted to tell you that you’ll meet some amazing people at MIT. Manipal Institute of Technology offers great exposure and personality development to its students. You won’t find groupism based on wealth. So, irrespective of your background, you’ll have a good time over here.
