How is college life in IIT kharagpur?

AC
Anumita Chatterjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK)

There are a number of things that distinguish IIT Kharagpur from other IITs. My answer entails such attributes only.

  • Movies at subsidized rates: There are only 2 cinemas in the whole of Kharagpur, the better one obviously being inside the campus. As a result, many district people come and the fee is INR 100/- semester irrespective of how many movies you watch. This crazy deal attracts many.
  • Fastest and unlimited DC++:  This is a software that allows sharing of files over LAN. This amazing software makes it possible for you to download a file faster than copying it from someone. A variety of things can be downloaded like books, question papers, software, games, movies, TV Series, etc. There are no download limits too unlike some other IITs.
  • Illumination: This is a unique phenomenon one can witness in IIT KGP during Diwali. Each of the 20 hostels participates in a competition wherein the students of that hostel have to portray a scene/message using Diyas. Rangoli was also made in this competition.
  • Bond with seniors: IIT KGP has a harmonious ambiance and seniors are extremely friendly and approachable. There is this trend wherein seniors write to their juniors about how they feel, and any advice on scrapbooks, chart sheets, etc.
  • Night routine: The students have crazy sleeping habits with some of them only sleeping for an hour or two at around 7 am only to wake up at 8:5O to rush to classes.
  • Mess Food. The food, especially North Indian food is decent and not like that served in IIT MG or IITM. The quality of the food has seen a steady improvement with a 4 meal plan per day. The mess serves Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, and Dinner.
  • Canteen: IIT KGP has 20 hostels (14 boys, 6 girls) and every hostel has its own canteen which runs from 3-4 AM every day. Some halls even serve their own specialty.
  • College Fests: A number of cultural and technical fests are held at IIT KGP. Spring Fest is the Cultural Fest of IIT Kharagpur which is the biggest festival in eastern India whereas Kshitij is the Technical Fest of IIT Kharagpur, Asia’s Largest Technological-Management Fest.
  • Eateries: Inside IIT KGP you can find Subway, CCD, Rooster, and Baskin Robbins offering food at affordable prices whereas outside you can find Dominos Pizza and a restaurant Flavors.

Life at IIT KGP is filled with fun and exciting activities.

How is student life at NMIMS Mumbai?

AJ
Aman Joshi Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA Tech. in Civil Engineering, SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2019)

When you join the course, keep in mind that it will have a significant impact on how you spend your time in Mumbai. If you opt for their flagship PGDM course, expect a rigorous academic schedule that demands a lot of attention, especially if you aim for good internships or placements. Luckily, the location is perfect for any kind of exposure you wish to gain during your stay.

While the initial traveling may be a bit of a hassle, it's important to get used to the local train transport as soon as possible because it will become your life and soul. The city of Mumbai provides you with enough opportunities to go out and explore, which you will need to do from time to time. Keep in mind that the cost of living and traveling can be a bit high, so make sure to cross all your Ts and dot all your Is before you move to the city.

You should remember that space and silence are a luxury in Mumbai, and not everyone can afford them. However, it's going to be an incredible experience overall. Once you get used to the fast-paced life of Mumbai, you will have an awesome time in the city.

How does a typical day in IIM A pass by?

KS
Kalapi Singhal Posted On : February 22nd, 2022
studied Master of Business Administration Degrees at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Here’s a brief look into a typical day at IIM Ahmedabad.

  • Lectures start from 8:45 sharp. The lecture timing at IIM Ahmedabad has a zero error policy. It means you can’t attend the class even if you are one second late. It’s best if you wake up around 7. That way you will have time to get ready for class in time. Although there are students who wake up at 8, grab something to eat if possible, and reach class down to the wire.
  • There will be classes and breaks in a loop until the lunch break. Even if you are sleepy you will have to be active in class for the class participation marks.
  • The lunch break is at 1 pm. During lunch, you will see students checking their emails or quiz board for notices regarding an upcoming quiz. If you have a quiz at 2:45 pm, you will get the notice around 1:45 pm. Students who don’t have to prep for a quiz, either study or take a nap.
  • After 5 pm, the campus starts buzzing with various group activities. Many also start working on their group assignments.
  • Students start to get dinner from around 8 pm.
  • After dinner, most students either do their group assignments or study.

Naturally, the schedule varies depending on the individuals. But the activities are more or less same.

How is the mess food at IIT Delhi?

AS
Ashmita Sinha Posted On : April 1st, 2023
Masters from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

IIT Delhi has a total of 18 hostels for men, and 2 hostels for women. Each hostel has its mess hall that serves decent quality food. The general trend in most hostels is Breakfast>>Lunch>=Dinner. The mess menu is decided in winter/summer semester-wise separately and generally doesn't change throughout the semester.

A variety of dishes are served and the taste is also very good. Additionally, there are night messes till 4 am where you can munch on paranthe, momos, and Chinese. Some eateries that serve excellent snacks are Hollistic for juices and shakes, Rajdhani, Chaayos, CCD, Staff Canteen, and many more. Some combinations of meals served in the mess are

  • Chowmein, Manchurian, dal, roti
  • Macroni, Omelette chana and banana
  • Chole Bhature, Rice

A schedule is followed for mess food in every hostel. In which, sometimes the items served may differ. But the variety and quality of the food are excellent making it one of the motivating factors for students.

How is life at JIPMER?

AM
Anushua Mukharjee Posted On : September 21st, 2023
MBBS from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences

Life at JIPMER is extremely hectic yet very productive. A typical day begins at 8 in the morning for the MBBS students. The sleep-deprived students run for the first class often reaching late.

MBBS students have clinics from 10 while first-year students have dissection hall classes. Clinics are very intriguing wherein students are dressed up as doctors carrying stethoscopes. Lunch starts at 1 pm and lasts an hour.

The clinic classes are followed by afternoon classes from 2-4:30. The end of the classes at 4:30 marks the end of the day as well and students are free to do whatever they want. Students usually hang out with their friends after their hectic schedules. During tests, students can be seen in the library or pacing up and down the hostel corridor. Yet, we have our times of joy too. Every few months there are games tournaments. The campus life is fun and the annual fest, Spandan, is hosted in the first week of September each year.

Overall it's a continuous cycle of study, eat, and sleep with occasional fun moments with your friends!

How is life at NIT Delhi?

DS
Darshan Sethi Posted On : October 10th, 2023
Lives in Delhi

Life at NT Delhi is both challenging as well as rewarding in terms of the opportunities it offers both academically and non-academically. The relatively small batch size ensures a good rapport between the peers and also with the faculty. The small intake also ensures a decent package for everyone during placements.

  • Sentience is the annual cultural and technical fest of NIT Delhi. Although is not held at the same level as other engineering colleges, it is extravagant and dynamic.
  • The permanent campus has excellent hostel facilities with provisions of AC rooms for which students are required to pay an extra 10k.
  • The Nilerd campus and SRHC also have decent hostel facilities. The mess food is average and this campus is almost 5km away from the main campus. The commute is easy as a bus runs at the college’s expense to transport you to and fro both the campuses 5 times a week.
  • The NILERD campus has decent sports facilities at least in comparison to the main campus which has sports facilities still under construction.
  • NIT Delhi does not have an active club life.
  • Students get a plethora of opportunities to participate in various activities and sports due to the low intake.
  • The college is located in close proximity to many IT hubs so many companies visit the campus during placements.
NIT Delhi has a number of canteens on campus to cater to various necessities like stationary, snacks, etc.

Life at NIT Delhi is pretty engaging and dynamic offering ample opportunities to build a successful career.
