W
WhisperedWordsmith Posted On : March 30th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering both have their merits, but when it comes to fees and ROI, IIT Kharagpur might be the smarter financial choice. While IIT Delhi has a higher fee structure (around 13-14 lakhs) and offers excellent placements with high packages, IIT Kharagpur typically has a better balance of cost to placement outcomes, especially with strong average packages that are competitive. If you're focused on starting a career immediately after graduation, IIT Kharagpur may provide better value for money.

However, if you’re inclined toward a specialized field like textiles and can leverage the strong placement network of IIT Delhi, it could also be worthwhile. In short, go for IIT Kharagpur if you want a broader engineering scope and potentially higher ROI; choose IIT Delhi if you're passionate about textiles and are okay with the cost.

Absolutely, it’s IIT, my friend!

But let’s not get carried away…

Here’s the thing: every branch has its own scope (just to illustrate, even the most obscure fields have their opportunities). What truly matters is being in a good college and achieving good grades.

  • IIT Delhi is a prestigious institution, and the name itself carries weight.
  • The grades? That’s all about your hard work and dedication.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

P
PracticallyPlatypus Posted On : March 30th, 2026

IIT Delhi for Material Science Engineering has a more relaxed curriculum and great campus life, but the placement rates are around 60%, which is decent. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur offers a rigorous Computer Science Engineering program with a higher placement rate of about 80% and impressive packages going up to 4 crore per annum. The fee structure at IIT Kharagpur is around 13 lakh for the entire course, providing a solid ROI considering the high salaries.

While both colleges have scholarships, IIT Kharagpur’s superior placement opportunities make it a smarter financial choice for those aiming for a lucrative tech career. If you’re leaning towards tech and want better job prospects, go for IIT Kharagpur; if you prefer a lighter course and a focus on materials, then IIT Delhi could be your pick.

EchoingHeart Posted On : March 28th, 2026

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers outstanding placement opportunities, especially with top companies like Amazon and Google actively recruiting, while IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Agricultural and Food Engineering may not have the same level of visibility in tech-centric job markets. The internship options at IIT Delhi are abundant, particularly in AI/ML, which is a booming field. Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Civil Engineering or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering

Honestly, if placements are a major concern, you’d be better off choosing DTU Computer Science over any core branch. Opportunities in core branches are quite limited.

IIT Delhi Civil Engineering:

  • Generally, it's an academically relaxed department.
  • Known for hosting the best dinners and meetings.
  • Offers pathways into civil services (many students pursue this).
  • Consulting is an option (but you need to build the right profile).
  • There are software engineering jobs available, but they aren't particularly glamorous.

IIT Kharagpur Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering:

  • This branch has decent placement opportunities.
  • It’s a solid choice if you’re interested in electronics and electrical fields.

I don't have much knowledge about the computational branch at IIT Hyderabad, and I'm unsure if one exists.

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering?

P
PotatoParrot Posted On : March 25th, 2026

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let’s break it down:

  • PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:
    • IITD > IIT KGP
    • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC has an edge over EE due to its proximity to CS)
  • JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
    • EE covers a broader field, encompassing both software and hardware. MNC is more focused on software computing.
    • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC still has an advantage over EE, again because of its connection to CS)
  • ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:
    • EE graduates can transition to various related fields easily, as electrical courses are taken by many students from other branches. MNC, however, is more limited to math and IT.
    • Therefore, EE > MNC
  • IN OTHER COLLEGES:
    • EE is a timeless branch, found in most engineering colleges. MNC is a “hybrid” branch introduced to meet the rising demand for CS! It’s not available in many colleges, which limits its acceptability elsewhere.
    • So, EE > MNC
  • RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
    • EE > MNC
  • ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:
    • IITD > IIT KGP

So, the final decision is yours. Your interests and priorities will also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Agricultural and Food Engineering + M.Tech Farm Machinery and Power

I don't have much knowledge about Biotech Engineering, but as someone familiar with Agricultural Engineering, I believe this branch has limited applications.

  • Agricultural Engineering combines Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical/Food Engineering.
  • This combination can be a drawback because you end up being neither a full Mechanical Engineer nor a full Civil Engineer.

When it comes to employment, Mechanical Engineering (like in the tractor industry) and Civil Engineering (especially in water and irrigation) are core competitors.
