Which one is better, Chandigarh University or Lovely Professional University?

vs
vidhi sharma Posted On : April 9th, 2024

Chandigarh University and LPU are among the top private universities in North India. Choosing among these two universities depends on various factors described below:

  • Location: Chandigarh University's campus is located on NH 5, Chandigarh Ludhiana Highway, Mohali, Punjab and LPU is located on the Jalandhar - Delhi G.T. Road, (Punjab). Both of the universities are well-connected by road and railway and have a reasonable distance from nearby airports. Both the universities are situated a little far away from the main cities, so if you are giving a thought of exploring Chandigarh or Ludhiana, it will not matter much as students don't go to the city side on a daily basis.
  • Admission Process: Chandigarh University conducts CUCET to offer admission in UG and PG courses whereas LPU conducts LPUNEST which forms the basis of scholarships and admission to a wide range of courses available at the university.
  • Fees: Chandigarh University Fees range from INR 1.35 Lakhs to INR 12.68 Lakhs for different courses offered at UG and PG levels whereas LPU in comparison to CUCHD has a higher fee structure. For example, the B.Tech fees of LPU are INR 11.20 Lakhs to INR 16 Lakhs.
  • Facilities: LPU Campus is spread over an area of 600 acres whereas Chandigarh University has a campus area of 200 acres. In terms of facilities, LPU has a higher edge over CU, as it has a University Mall, 5 Banks, 55+ ATMs, 9-storeyed Central Libray, 12 Badminton Courts, 6 Squash Courts, 9-hole Golf Course, etc.
  • Placements: Chandigarh University provides good placement opportunities for engineering students with the highest package of INR 1.7 CPA (international) grabbed by a B.Tech CSE-IBM Information Security student with a US-based company whereas LPU’s highest international package is INR 3 CPA offered to a B.Tech CSE student. LPU has granted a higher domestic placement package of INR 64 LPA as compared to Chandigarh University with the national package being INR 54.75 LPA. Both universities have tie-ups with big organizations like Google, Amazon, Deloitte, IBM, EY, etc.
  • Faculty: The faculty of LPU is much better as they help students in each way possible. Students can reach out to the faculty anytime for their doubts and complaints. The university organizes various guest lectures by renowned personalities like Sheila Dixit, Subhas Chandra, etc.

From the above points, we can say LPU is better than Chandigarh University. But the only drawback is that it has a higher fee structure.

Which college should I go to SRM or NMIMS for CSE?

Pranjal Sapra Posted On : April 4th, 2024

For pursuing a CSE degree, one should choose SRM University over NMIMS as the latter is more reputed for its MBA courses. Here are the reasons to pursue B.Tech CSE from SRM University Chennai:

  • Recognitions & Approvals: SRM IST is approved by AICTE and UGC and is accredited by IET Engineering, the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, NBA, and NAAC with A++ grades.
  • Facilities: It has a large 250-acre campus. It has a central library, hostels, canteens, counselling services, sports facilities, clubs, cultural activities, etc.
  • Admission Criteria: Students have to qualify for SRMJEEE to take admission to engineering programs available at SRM University including B.Tech CSE. Students having passed Class XII with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as compulsory subjects can apply for admission to B.Tech.
  • Fees: The annual fee for B.Tech CSE at SRM University is INR 4,75,000 for the main campus i.e. Kattankulathur.
  • Seat Intake: A total of 1,140 seats are available in the B.Tech CSE course of SRM University Chennai (Kattankulathur - KTR).
  • Placements: The top recruiting companies of SRM University Chennai are Microsoft, Amazon, Optum, Udaan.com and many more. The highest package of SRM IST Chennai is INR 52 LPA.
  • Entrance Exam: SRMJEEE is a 2-hour 30-minute duration exam consisting of 125 MCQs and has five sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English and Aptitude. There is no negative marking in this paper and one mark is given for each correct answer.

Which college is better between IIIT Bhubneshwar, IIIT Delhi, IIIT Kota, IIIT Vadodara, IIIT Lucknow, IIIT NR, IIIT Trichy, IIIT Sri City, IIIT Guwahati, and IIIT Kalyani for CSE/IT, in terms of fee s

AS

Here is the best preference order you can refer to while choosing one IIIT from the long list you mentioned. I have considered all parameters including placements, coding culture, research, infrastructure, alumni, etc

  • IIIT Hyderabad
  • IIIT Allahabad = IIIT Delhi
  • IIIT Bangalore
  • IIIT Lucknow
  • IIIT Sri City = IIIT Gwalior = IIIT Chennai = IIIT Jabalpur
  • IIIT Bhubneshwar = IIIT Guwahati = IIIT Kota
  • IIIT Trichy = IIIT Vadodra = IIIT Kalyani = IIIT NR

If you are genuinely interested in coding or CSE, the best options for you would be IIIT Hyderabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, and Delhi. You can consider the top NITs as excellent options too. These 4 IIITs are the only IIITs that are better than NITs in terms of research, curriculum, and holistic development.

IIIT Lucknow, although a new IIIT, has established its name among the top IIITs. Its high ranking is because of its excellent coding culture and thus many product companies visit it. These 4 IIITs have their own campus too and charge high fees because of the top-notch faculty and research resources they offer.

All the remaining IIITs are in the development stage and should not be given consideration. It’s better to choose the top 7 or 8 NITs than these developing IIITs.

What should one choose between Mtech in ISI kolkata for the Quality,Reliability and Operation Research program, or MS from IISc in SERC (Super Computer Education Research Centre)?

PP

I can never stop suggesting people join ISI Kolkata by any means. It’s a magical place for math lovers and has given birth to many world-renowned Mathematicians. Even the offered SERC at IISc cannot be compared to ISI.

Whenever you are choosing a college or even a branch, the best way to determine the best option is to check the faculty profiles. People who choose colleges solely on the basis of placements realize the true scenario to be way different than expected and end up regretting their decision. So, don’t aim for becoming successful only, rather become talented and skilled enough that success seeks you on its own. Stop focusing on placements, focus on other major things, and good placements will be well on your way!

Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?

AG

It’s better to denounce the sheep mentality and think from your own perspective. If you are attracted to CS because of its lucrative branches, I suggest you not go for new IITs as the placement scenario is not that good.

IIT Roorkee, on the other hand, is a very old Engineering college with an excellent legacy. The rich coding culture motivates even non-CS students to learn coding to apply for software companies. The new IITs soaring in Guwahati and Indore lack the necessary resources and dynamism of coding.

One can always work on their noncore branches and gain additional skills to compensate for their flaws. But one should risk the Institute and always go for the best.

It’s better to choose IIT Roorkee Mechanical than CS in new IITs.
