Is it worth joining IIM Nagpur or should I wait a year?

SA
Sonal Agarahari Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2019)

Joining IIM Nagpur is a decision worth taking. It has a good reputation, especially among the new IIMs. One of my cousins with a work experience of 3 years, joined IIM Nagpur and is glad he took the decision. He considered the following parameters to take this decision

  • Placements: The institute enjoys a 100% placement percentage The highest CTC shot up by 72.56% to INR 55.22 LPA whereas the average CTC increased by 20.50% which stood at INR 23.10 LPA. In addition, the average CTC for the top 50% batch climbed by 16.08% to INR 26.95 LPA.
  • Crowd: The institute welcomes a mixed crowd with a variety of academic, geographical, and work experience profiles. The individuals here are serious about their MBA who want to leave an impact in the corporate world.
  • Courses: IIM Nagpur provides both Foundation courses in the first year and a blend of your choice of electives in the second year. This enables you to specialize in more than one domain thereby broadening your career opportunities
  • Faculty: The faculty is well known for their industry experience themselves are IIM alumni.
  • Culture: IIM Nagpur has a dynamic culture owing to its clubs and activities. There are both academic and non-academic clubs that make learning fun and practical. Various corporate-level competitions are won by these students. The sports culture is also very dominant here with the non-academic clubs managing the mess, the infrastructure, and the events.

So yes IIM Nagpur is worth risking your career for.

Is IET Lucknow comparable to NIT?

AU
Akshat Uniyal Posted On : November 10th, 2022
Lives in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India

Of course, if you look at the faculty, placements, and atmosphere, it is very similar to NITs.

In terms of a student competition, due to the 50% state quota in all NITs, many students with very low scores get into NITs, but in a state like UP, it is extremely difficult to get into NIT even after the state quota due to massive competition. Furthermore, students who take admission in IET have a very good rank in UPSEEE; they are those students who have a decent rank even in JEE Mains but do not go to NITs due to branch issues, so students here are also good. The most important aspect is that you will receive excellent preparation for future studies such as GATE and CAT. This is not available in many NITs because they are located in cities with no coaching institutes.

Is the MBA tech course offered by NMIMS Mumbai Certified?

AR
Aakash Roy Posted On : May 20th, 2021
Studied at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

The MBA Tech. program is specially designed to meet this growing need. It is an integrated course that comprises B.Tech and MBA. It is to be completed in a tenure of 5 years (3+2 years).

  • The engineering degree is to be completed in 3 years with 15+ subjects each semester and MBA will be completed in 2 years.
  • All programs of MPSTME are approved by the AICTE.
  • The faculty for management is the same as the core students of NMIMS.

The student will receive 2 degrees at the end of 5 years:-

  1. B.Techfrom NMIMS University.
  2. MBA in Technology specialized in the particular subject you choose in your 4th year for Management Studies.

The integrated degree has more potential than a general degree acquired at any of the rival colleges Like Manipal, VIT, SRM, etc. The tag of NMIMS is also an added advantage. This degree will always have an upper hand over the normal B.Tech degree.

How much percentile do I need to get into top IIMs, FMS, XLRI, if I have very bad academics?

SM
Senjuti Mishra Posted On : May 6th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2017)

You may receive calls from XLRI, and FMS, if you score well on the entrance test. These institute doesn’t assign high weightage to past academic score. If you can score above 99.5 percentile in CAT, you may receive calls from IIM C, L, and I.

IIM A and B have high weightage for past academics. If your academic record isn’t good. It’s not likely that you will receive a call.

How was your 1st day at NIT Jamshedpur?

VT
Vinayak Thakur Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (2019)

One of my friends studied at NIT Jamshedpur. I will share his experience of his first day at college, this might give you a basic idea about the college.

  • On his admission’s day which is ten days before the commencement of class, he strolls through campus looking at computer lab conditions, which is good. All computer labs are fully air-conditioned.
  • Document verification took some time before finally getting admission into the college. Students were also helpful on campus who helped him find a Xerox shop.
  • His college day started by arriving at the campus at 11 am.
  • He was allotted a hostel while visiting there. All the hotels looked new after renovation.
  • His room has three other students sharing the room with him. Their beds were small though. Each one of them allotted their own open cupboards.
  • In the mess, there was a long line of 50 boys for food. The menu has rice, vegetables, etc. The mess food does not taste good, and he kept on complaining about it.
  • He then visited the college building, which is over 50 years old and has not renovated since. For registration, he went to the Metallurgical department and made some departmental friends.
  • His 1st day was not a good day for him, but he sure learned how to compromise, how to communicate, and how life starts outside a comfort zone.

Now he doesn’t forget his wallet, not shy away from talking with strangers, and doesn't complain about food quality.

Therefore, the first day of college may not be what one would be expected. But you will surely learn a lot of things. With time you will become responsible, good in communication, and learn how to manage yourself.

Are SPJIMR (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's) and SP Jain School of Global Management related in any way? If they are not related, which one is better?

PK
Praveen Kumar Posted On : March 6th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

I am going to address the most common misconception that SPJIMR and SP Jain are somewhat related.

Establishment: SPJIMR was established in 1981 and is associated with the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, one of the only two institutes of national importance. SP Jain on the other hand was established in 2005. SP Jain or Sheehan Prasad Jain provided capital for the foundation of SPJIMR during its establishment. Later they decided to launch their own brand in the name of SP Jain. This is the main reason why people get confused between the two.

Campus: SPJIMR is solely Mumbai based and has no other campus whereas SP Jain’s Mumbai campus is one of the 4 campuses of the institute.

Legacy: SPJIMR is 36 years old and has a legacy of providing excellent management education focusing on value-based growth. SP Jain is a relatively new institute that is yet to build some credibility in order to impact the Management scene in India.

Alumni: SPJIMR has a much stronger and broader alumni network than SP Jain.

We can draw the following points of conclusion from this comparison

  • SPJIMR is the authentic SP B School everyone is looking for
  • The quality of education at SPJIMR is at elegy with that of International B Schools which is not the case for SP Jain
  • The little game achieved by SP Jain is because of its accidental linkup with SPJIMR
  • The schools are definitely not rivals as SPJIMR is way ahead of SP Jain. We cannot really compare a 10-year Institute with a 36-year-old one.

I hope my answer has cleared all your doubts regarding the relationship between SPJIMR and SP Jain.

Do you think IIIT Delhi should be preferred over the top 3 NITs (Trichy, Warangal and surathkal) by a South Indian when there is passion for coding?

AR
Ankita Rastogi Posted On : September 3rd, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2020)

Yes, you can go for IIIT Delhi without any second thought. The institute has come a long way and it has improved its reputation. It can easily compete with some of the most sought-after institutes.

  • Placements: In its latest placement season, more than 140 companies have visited the campus and made a total of 585 offers to its students. The highest domestic package was INR 50 LPA and the international offer was INR 37.50 LPA. The average package offered was INR 16.14 LPA.
  • Faculty: It can obviously be said with certainty that the faculty of IIIT Delhi is enviable and can stand toe to toe with the institutes mentioned in the question.
  • Coding Culture: IIITD has dedicated clubs with great coding culture for students. Previously, 15 students got selected for Google Summer of Code.
  • Hostels: The hostel rooms at this institute are much better than any government college. Proper air-conditioning is provided at nights during summers and heaters during winters.
  • Location: IIITD enjoys the locational advantage of being situated in the capital city. You will be given great exposure and opportunities. NITs, on the other hand, are located far away from the cities and you may face travel problems.

Some of the disadvantages that you may encounter at IIITD are the reputation and campus life that NITs carries. They are more reputable than IIITD and have a great campus life.

What is your review of Lady Hardinge Medical College?

SP
Shreya Palit Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
Studies MBBS at AIIMS, 2022

One of my sisters is a part of Lady Hardinge College and her experience at the college has been amazing.

The college has a gigantic auditorium and administrative block, other than which there are no efficient places to talk about.

You will enjoy several outings during your stay at the college because the campus lacks a good food joint. You can also order food from nearby restaurants in Paharganj or Connaught Place. The food is nominally available in the food mess at the hostel which is not tasty.

The major downside is the infrastructure it has, as opposed to other institutes such as AIIMS, MAMC, or UCMS. The gymnasium at the college is not very well equipped. However, as per what my cousin states, it is a decent university when talking academically.
