Getting CSE at Thapar University as well as Jaypee Noida (JIIT) , which college should I choose?

MA

Had you asked this question 4-5 years ago, the common answer would have been Thapar University. However, things have changed a lot in the last few years. Here are some reasons why I would suggest you to go for JIIT Noida for your B.Tech CSE-

  1. The crowd quality at Thapar University has gone down drastically. The reasons behind this are a 50% quota for Punjab students and the enormous increase in the number of seats. Both these actions have resulted in very low cut offs. The cutoff rank for Punjab students in JEE Mains is 1.5 Lakh+ for CSE department. The closing rank of JIIT Noida for the same is around 51 K+. Thus, the crowd is better in JIIT Noida as compared to Thapar.
  2. The batch size at Thapar University is much bigger than JIIT N. Thapar University has a batch size of 1200+ students for Computers while JIIT Noida has a batch size of only 250+ students. A smaller batch size means more placement opportunities and better attention towards the learning of each student.
  3. Location-wise, NCR offers more opportunities than Patiala. You will get numerous opportunities in NCR like trade shows, conferences, training, better placements, etc. Gurgaon and Noida are the new IT Hubs, second only to Bangalore and at par with Hyderabad and Pune. As a CSE student, you should prefer Noida over Patiala.
  4. Though Thapar University has a bigger campus of 250 acres, your life will mostly revolve around your classrooms, nearby areas and your hostel. Thus, the smaller campus of JIIT N should not be that big an obstacle.
  5. The average package for B.Tech CSE is around INR 13.28 LPA at JIIT Noida, which is better than Thapar University in which the average package for the UG stream stands at around INR 10.97 LPA. Studying at JIIT Noida is also around 30-40% cheaper than Thapar.

Thus, at present, CSE from JIIT Noida is a much better choice.

One of my cousins took this course and loved the course right away. She was satisfied with the course structure and the delivery of the concepts. Here is what she stated regarding the program

  • The concerned faculty is very learned and approachable. The students can talk to them and clear all their doubts.
  • The peers in this particular program are from diverse backgrounds making it a more enriched experience.
  • The students are evaluated on a frequent basis in the form of weekly tests, regular hackathons, and group and individual lab sessions.
  • The lectures are extremely interactive and available in video form for future reference.
  • The program is quite rigorous and requires immense dedication as you will be devoting all your weekends for 3 months.

Overall, she was very satisfied with the program and recommends it to everyone willing to become an AIML Professional. However, she added that one needs to be good at coding and have a knack for Python before taking up the program.

How is the MA in psychology distance course at IGNOU? What are the job prospects of it compared to a regular distance course?

AP
Arijit Pathak Posted On : October 13th, 2022
Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Admission is available in two sessions: July and January. The university supplies the study material, which is fine. It follows a year system, with 7 courses (6 theory and 1 practical) in the first year and 6 in the second year (3 theory, 1 practical, 1 internship requiring at least 240 hours total, and 1 project/research (can only be done if you pass the Research Methodology and Statistics subjects in the first year)). There are three optional courses to choose from in the second year of IGNOU's MA in Psychology.

  • Clinical psychiatry
  • Psychology of counseling
  • Psychology in the workplace

Each has different job prospects, and it is believed you will be familiar with them because it is clear from their names what fields they represent. The procedure is extremely simple. Obtain admission, complete assignments, and register for the exam at the desired exam center. After passing the exams, which can take between three and six years. Following that, you will be given a mark sheet and a provisional certificate. To obtain an original degree, you must wait at least six to twelve months for the convocation to be held by IGNOU, and you must pay a nominal fee of Rs 600-900 for registration and certificate.

If you are unable to attend the convocation, your certificate will be mailed to your home address. However, the practicals and viva-voce are an exception because some of the exams were conducted recently (depending on the Regional/Study center). It is acceptable in the first year, but if it occurs in the second year, it may cause a hindrance for higher education because the certificates may not be available at the right time for seeking admission, (seems IGNOU is nowadays quickly distributing the provisional and statement of marks. The good news is that you will receive it directly to your home via post after completing the course). The learner must submit assignments for all theory papers, and writing them will take a lot of time, but it will be beneficial for a passionate learner of psychology.

If you want to pursue this MA in Psychology from IGNOU, you must fully commit to this course because the field of psychology is vast. So working while pursuing this course may not be the best option because it may require 3 months of internship, pure research work, and an ocean of writing work.

Regarding the job prospects, as a student of the specific course, you hope to win the UGC NET/JRF and continue your education to become a lecturer. If I get the JRF, I plan to pursue an M Phil in Clinical Psychology and become a licensed clinical practitioner in the mental health field.

DS

studied at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (2017)

In order to clear the NIMHANS entrance exam for M.Phil. In clinical psychology, you should be thorough in the basics of the syllabus prescribed for a PG in psychology. Consider studying topics like cognitive psychology, Biological basis of behavior, abnormal psychology, social psychology, and research methodology.

In reality, clearing the MPhil entrance is just a small step of the whole process. You should be mentally strong enough and have the ability to report to different people and tolerate their valid criticism. You will have to learn to work together with people from different disciplines, develop a passion for your patients, and spend long working hours including Saturdays. The bright side is, that you will be working with some of the highly intellectual people who will guide you to manage both academics and clinical work.

I am sure, eventually, you will realize that all the efforts were worth the result!

Why is CSE at NSIT considered better than CSE at DTU?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

There are many reasons why some students prefer CSE at NSIT to CSE at DTU. I have listed some strong reasons below:

  • NSIT has a smaller batch size which in turn means the level of competition faced by the students is comparatively low. You can get good job profiles way more easily than at an institute with a higher intake like DTU.
  • NSIT awards you a degree from DU, one of the most globally recognized and reputed universities. This helps you pursue higher studies in foreign countries easily.
  • Quite a few NSIT students are able to secure high packages in top companies like Facebook while DTU because of its large batch size has only a few that get 1 cr+ packages.
  • One of the major reasons why someone would prefer NSIT over DTU is that it’s quite difficult to get a hostel in DTU especially if you are a resident of Delhi.

If you consider these reasons valid, go for NSIT instead of DTU.

Which one is the best AIIMS or CMC Vellore for an MBBS?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 21st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

One of my friends was in a similar dilemma. He considered the following points while making his decision

  1. Most AIIMS undergraduates settle in the US or pursue higher education in top colleges in India while CMC graduates prefer CMC for their higher education only.
  2. Students of CMC are required to do bonds in mission hospitals so their higher education gets delayed. But this instills in them a strong sense of community-oriented healthcare. They tend to work in remote places of India without any personal glory. An AIIMS student can hardly be seen doing community service.
  3. AIIMS graduates publish more when compared to CMC graduates.
  4. CMC students get better hands-on experience and hence fare better in terms of clinical and Surgical skills. Right from the second year, they start assisting postgraduates in clinical work.
  5. If you are a non-Christian, it will be difficult to go through the entire training without a mission hospital

Ultimately, make a choice based on your demographics, preferences, and goals in life.

Should I do an online BSc data science and programming course from IIT Madras? Will I get placement after it?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 12th, 2023

My friend has enrolled himself for B.Sc. Data Science and Programming course from IIT M. He carefully accessed the course curriculum.

According to him, the course requires at least 4 to 6 hours of study each day.

One can not simply study it on the weekends and cope up. My friend has a tight working schedule, and therefore, he is considering leaving this course.

But if you can devote time for the course each day, then this course will definitely benefit you. The placement statistics are not very clear but the curriculum is rigorous and so you will learn new skills that will come handy during job search.

What is the actual average salary for NMIMS Mumbai? Is it really worthwhile to do an MBA from NMIMS, considering the huge fees and inflated placement reports?

RM
Rohan Mitra Posted On : January 18th, 2022
studied at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

One of my friends got into NMIMS through NMAT. According to him, it was not the most sorted choice as their rankings and placement reports are inflated.

  • They show an average package of 16 LPA being offered to 550 students but it is impossible to get that.
  • Usually students receive a 12-13 LPA for core subjects and 9-10 LPA for HR.
  • NMIMS is a popular brand, thus the brand name attracts lots of students in Hyderabad and Bangalore campus. But they are not good enough as generally promoted.
  • IMT, NMIMS, SIBM, XIMB were once one of the top private B-schools . But their standards have degraded recently. Only MDI managed to maintain and move forward.
  • No other B-school increased fees like NMIMS. Its fees are more than XLRI and IIM A, B and C.
  • The building at NMIMS is also not great, according to the fees that they charge.
  • No other college charges its candidates for conducting CDPI or GDPI. Whereas NMIMS students have to pay 1000 rupees.
  • After the release of the results, students have to pay fees of about 9 lakhs in just 1 week.

Spending a huge amount for MBA education is not a great idea. People might consider it an investment, but you have to make an informed decision by also considering the ROI. Therefore, if you are an outstation student consider other colleges than NMIMS.
