Why is electronic engineering not at IIT Kanpur?

AT
Ayushi Tiwari Posted On : April 25th, 2023
IIT Kanpur (2019)

At IIT Kanpur, the wider domain namely, Electrical Engineering is offered and not Electronic Engineering. While most IITs EE is further divided into subdomains, IIT Kanpur believes in covering a broader scope rather than an in-depth one. The wide scope enables students to explore almost everything h and then decide where their interest lies.

Electrical Engineering itself is made up of many fields like Signal Processing, Communication Systems, Microelectronics, and Power Electronics broadly. It’s not justified if a person acquired knowledge of only one specific field when in reality, all subdomains are interconnected.

Electronic Engineering is not a separate branch at IIT Kanpur but is definitely taught here. The flexible curriculum makes it possible for students to choose from a plethora of electives and customize their academic templates accordingly.

Basically, IIT Kanpur believes that students identify their area of interest by exploring other domains and not studying the subdomains only!

Which one is preferred for the electronics branch, Thapar University or Manipal main campus?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 7th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Thapar University was once a very prestigious and highly regarded institute. But now it has lost its charm and its quality of education is very low now. The main reason for the same is an increase in the intake of average students just for the sake of earning money. Dont believe the NIRF rankings as they are manipulated and misleading.

One of my friends recently chose Manipal University because the quality of the crowd is much better than Thapar University. The quality of the crowd is deteriorating because of increasing cutoffs and the huge reservation for Punjab residents. Manipal University cutoffs on the other hand are decreasing so it's able to maintain the quality of the crowd better.

So, Manipal Unversity is a preferable choice for the electronics branch.

Amrita University, Coimbatore

The department of computing and engineering at Amrita University Coimbatore currently offers BTech in computing and technology and M. Tech in computing and engineering, AI, and data science. The department aims to draw in the best engineering aspirants and research scholars across the country.

Infrastructure:

  • The facilities provided by Amrita University are fairly good and therefore the infrastructure is above average. medical and sports facilities are provided to students living on campus and the Wi-Fi facility is out there within the hostel and college for college kids.

Faculty:

  • The faculty at Amrita University are highly qualified and about 5% of the teachers are M. Tech students who passed out from an equivalent college.

How is NIT Calicut for electronics??

DS
Devesh Saraf Posted On : April 25th, 2023
Studied at NIT Calicut

Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is a challenging and demanding course offered at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, one of the premier engineering institutions in India. If you are passionate about Electronics and Communication and willing to devote most of your time to your studies, then ECE can be an excellent choice for you. However, it's essential to consider a few things before you decide to pursue this course.

Here are some pros and cons of pursuing ECE at NIT Calicut:

  • ECE is a challenging and rigorous course that requires a strong foundation in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. You should have a genuine interest in these subjects and a keen desire to explore their applications in electronics and communication.
  • ECE at NIT Calicut is known for its academic rigor, and you should be prepared to put in long hours of study and hard work to keep up with the pace. The course curriculum includes theory, practical, and research components that require a high level of concentration and dedication.
  • If you are interested in co-curricular activities or want to pursue hobbies other than studies, you may find it challenging to balance your time between them and ECE. It's crucial to prioritize your goals and manage your time effectively to avoid burnout or stress.
  • ECE assignments and projects can be time-consuming and require a lot of effort and attention to detail. You should be prepared to work independently or in a team, meet deadlines, and present your work in a professional manner.
  • Despite its challenges, ECE at NIT Calicut offers excellent career opportunities in various sectors such as telecommunications, software development, consumer electronics, defense, and research. The placement record of the department is good, and many top companies visit the campus to recruit students. However, the number of core companies in ECE may be less compared to other branches like computer science, IT, or mechanical engineering.
  • Apart from academic and career prospects, you should also consider your personal interests and values before deciding to pursue ECE. If you have a natural inclination towards electronics and communication, enjoy problem-solving, and have a curious and creative mind, then ECE can be an exciting and rewarding course for you.

In conclusion, ECE at NIT Calicut can be a challenging but fulfilling course for students who are passionate about electronics and communication and willing to invest their time and effort in it. However, you should be aware of its demands and potential drawbacks and make an informed decision based on your interests, goals, and capabilities.

PS
Pulkit Singhal Posted On : January 11th, 2021
BE E&TC from Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2017)

VIT Pune is a more reputed college irrespective of its courses. Placements are good with an average package of 4-7 LPA and the highest package is around 26.4LPA. VIIT Pune is also an autonomous college where it has collaborated with VIT to conduct its placements. Hence students in both the colleges will get equal opportunity to go through the recruitment process.
