IIT Kanpur aerospace engineering is a well-known branch of engineering and is much coveted among engineering aspirants. The credibility of the department is further explained on the basis of some common parameters
Faculty: IIT Kanpur provides diversity in teaching styles owing to a blend of experienced professors who have made great scientific achievements and professors who are new.
Research: In general IIT Kanpur's lab and the research done is known for its excellency contributing largely to the society. However, specifically talking about aerospace, I don’t think much research goes on in this field.
Placements: Owing to a weak aerospace sector, core opportunities in this field are belan with majority of students opting for non core placements. There are only a handful that are not driven by money and aerospace is their genuine passion. Such students opt for higher studies to work in core, which is necessary as aerospace is a very niche area requiring expertise.
Academics: The curriculum is very flexible offering a plethora of electives to choose from making it possible for students to become employable in more than one sector. You can choose electives based on your future prospects and don’t just have to rely on your branch for placements. This is helpful for higher studies as well as your strong grasp of various fields creates a positive impact on colleges thereby increasing your chances.
Overall, the campus life at IIT Kanpur is filled with fun and exciting experiences making it one of the best choices for any branch.
Honestly, the infrastructure of the department does not do justice to the reality of the department. The faculty, peer group quality, and education offered are all top-notch. The students are keen to understand the concepts and make the most out of the program.
Pros
Cons
Overall, this department has little scope in India, yet IIT Kanpur is one of the best institutes for those interested in this branch.
Madras Institute of Technology is under Anna University. These two aren’t separate. If you want good job profiles with cushy salary packages, after completing your degree, MIT isn’t a good option. Not many core companies visit the campus drive for recruitment. Although placements in the non-core sector are good. MIT offers good academics and you can benefit from the institute if you are aiming to pursue higher studies. The course fee is nominal. The course costs around INR 1.58 lakhs.
SRM is a good option if infrastructure is your priority. Although the university fees are a little higher.
The aerospace engineering department at IIEST Shibpur offers students with aerospace engineering as well as applied mechanics. Students always get confused as they often ask if the academic choices get bound to aerospace engineering only. But you could have used copper for studying structural and fluid that are two main aspects of applied mechanics as well. Labs and facilities are still not fully constructed, but once they are constructed, they are going to enhance the department's performance a lot. This department has developed several talented students since its beginning. Maximum students get good marks in their GATE examination every year. Two of the pass out students have gone to the University of Suny buffalo and Illinois University as well. Students are also sent for internships at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and other IITs only if they show their interest.
Student-teacher ratio: It is also very impressive with 36 seats in total and 20 teachers.
University tie-ups: The department has tied-up with IIT Kharagpur where the students are taken for labs and other practicals.
Qualified Facilities: The university is among the very few where you will find technically qualified teachers with good experience in the field. Professors always help out to gain practical knowledge even though Laboratories are not fully developed.
Hightech latest Labs: It has a fluid dynamics lab as one of the basic subjects that are required for studying aerospace engineering.
Placements:
The placement records have improved this year, and many placement drives are yet to be organized. No core company visited the campus to hire the students studying in the Aerospace department because most of the core Aerospace companies ask for an M.Tech degree in aerospace engineering as the minimum qualification.
The department is a very young department that has still to grow to obtain its full strength. But the scope and opportunities associated with it are huge, and you may get a very good and experienced faculty to guide you.

While the Aerospace department of IIT Kharagpur is indeed well developed, IISc is still the best option for Aerospace in India. It has multiple collaborations with reputed Aircraft Manufacturing companies like Boeing and Airbus offering you the necessary exposure that might not be possible at IIT KGP. You can get an insight into the working of these companies and learn things quickly.
You can even apply to the foreign branches of these companies and get a good job. IISc is well known for its enthusiastic research-oriented approach and learned faculty that will help you grow as a person.
Being a knowledgeable person does necessarily mean you have to secure full marks. Knowing the right set of skills and implementing them is a must to be one of the top students.
That being said, to achieve great things you cannot expect your journey to be a cakewalk. The workload at IISc is indeed much more than IIT Kharagpur. You will face continuous challenges as you stay in the dynamic research environment which will eventually become a thrilling experience. Going for IISc will definitely guarantee you a good career ahead.

The choice of both branch and institute depends a lot on factors like your career prospects and areas of interest. However, since you haven't decided on a branch yet, I will assume you aren't yet sure of a branch and are open to exploring more branches. Don't worry, as most students clearing JEE Advanced face a similar situation. Personally, I will recommend you to go for IIT KGP over ISM Dhanbad because of 2 strong reasons
IIT KGP gives you the chance to explore and identify your area of interest. Even if you go for coding and later realize you don't like it, you can always go for non-core jobs that are in abundance at IIT KGP. But in the case of Dhanbad, you will have to stick to coding irrespective of your career inclinations. This is a major factor as it is your passion that determines your success rate.
IIT KGP has a more diverse group of individuals that are literal geniuses. Even if you are an above-average student you will face tough competition and thus will always strive to excel and grow. Dhanbad has an average-quality peer group and thus your growth might be restricted there.
I can only guide you to make a good decision, the final authority lies with you.
IIEST Shibpur is a well-known institute in India. Although it has faced some challenges in recent years, it has been making progress. Aerospace Engineering is the newest department at IIEST, having been established in 2011 by branching out from the Mechanical Engineering Department. Despite being a small batch, the department has a lot of potential.
It's important to note that ranking colleges based solely on placements is not always accurate. Research output is often a more important criterion to consider.
IIEST Shibpur has better faculty and facilities than SRM, and at a much lower cost. So, if you're looking for an Aerospace Engineering college, IIEST Shibpur is worth considering.
