The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.
If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.
A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.
Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.
If you are concerned about the brand then definitely go for IIIT Allahabad. But, if you are clear with your choice of stream you can choose either of them. If you choose NIT Jamshedpur CSE it’s good and so is the same with IIIT Allahabad.
I can share one of my cousin’s experiences, who passed out from NIT Jamshedpur.
Let me make it more clearly for you by categorizing engineering colleges:
|
Tier - 1 |
IIT B,K,KGP,D,M,R, BHU, HYD,BITS Pilani-Pilani campus,IIIT HYD, IIIT Allahabad, NIT K,W,T, DTU, NSIT, ISM(Dhanbad) |
|
Tier - 2 |
New IITs like Mandi, Gandhinagar, Patna, DAIICT, BITS HYD, BITS GOA, BIT Mesra, IIIT Bangalore, IIITM Gwalior, NITs - Calicut, Nagpur, Rourkela, Kurukshetra, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jaipur, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Jadavpur University, IIIT Delhi, LNMIIT, Thapar university. |
|
Tier - 3 |
Rest of the NITs |
|
Tier - 4 |
Lower Level State Government Colleges. |
|
Tier - 5 |
Amity, LPU, ITM, Manipal, SRM Main, GLA-Mathura, Galgotia, BML, SRMS, VIT, JNTU , BMS Bangalore , RV Bangalore and other private engineering colleges and other IIITs Like Vadodara etc and other top state government colleges. |
This categorization might help you to decide. Also, skills do not depend on the branding of the building. It is something you learn eventually. Moreover, choose a college which has easy access to transport, shops, etc.
Also, if you see around there is infinite demand for highly skilled electronics engineers with impressive TopCOder and GitHub profiles. So, choosing either of the colleges won’t be a loss. But, if you have a specific interest in a particular stream like ECE in IIIT Allahabad or NIT Jamshedpur will prove a good choice too.
There are several professors in the ECE department of MNNIT Allahabad who are excellent in their teaching and lectures for students. These teachers help the students not only in the curriculum but in works related to research and provide other institutional facilities too.
One such example of such a professor is Prof. Amit Dhawan. The point below gives a brief overview of Prof. Dhawan’s characteristics.
These are some of the key highlights of Prof. Amit Dhawan’s lectures, which most students in ECE and also students from other departments in MNNIT Allahabad are well aware of.
For an ECE degree, PEC Chandigarh can be a better choice, considering the factor that there is quite a good number of core companies visiting the campus for placement. The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two institutes.

Key Highlights:
Therefore, students can consider the above factors as a point of advice and make choices accordingly.
When it comes to selecting a college, it's important to consider various factors such as the curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, location, and placement opportunities. If you are considering CGC and CU Gharuan, you may want to take note of the following information.
CGC is affiliated with Punjab Technical University (PTU), whereas CU Gharuan is a university in itself. While being affiliated with PTU has its advantages, such as following a standardized curriculum and receiving recognition from the university, it's important to note that not all colleges under PTU may be of the same standard.
On the other hand, CU Gharuan is a recognized university that offers a range of courses across different fields. The university has its own faculty, infrastructure, and curriculum that is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience.
When it comes to placements, both CGC and CU Gharuan have a dedicated placement cell that assists students in finding job opportunities. However, it's important to note that placement outcomes are not solely dependent on the college, but also on various other factors such as the student's skills, interests, and abilities, and the industry requirements.
While some colleges under PTU may not have a good reputation, it's not fair to generalize and say that all colleges under PTU are of no use. Similarly, while CU Gharuan may be a good option for some students, it may not be the best option for everyone. It's important to thoroughly research and consider all the factors before making a decision.
If you think that you can work under technical giants later in years of study, then you should go for VIT. However, if you want to pursue your field of interest, and choose a likewise job scenario, then undoubtedly, you should enroll in IIIT Guwahati.
There are various differences between both the institutes for B.Tech ECE. Let’s walk through most of them:
Approaches of VIT:

VIT is a reputed institute that is known to get you a job in the placement. If you’re willing to enter the job sector soon, join VIT.
MNNIT Allahabad is better for ECE. The department has a great faculty and the professors are helpful. The ECE department has many clubs and societies such as Robotics Club and Electronics Society. These clubs have various ongoing research projects. The faculties also take part actively in these projects.
Although the core job opportunities are not too encouraging, few companies do take part in the placements drive. In the past students got internship opportunities in companies such as Qualcomm, Samsung, Airtel, etc. Many IT companies also recruit ECE students. According to the recent highlights of MNNIT Allahabad placements, the highest CTC offered to ECE students is around INR 51 LPA.
Many of the students do not find ECE as an interesting branch due to the following reason:
Now, coming back to the choice between the two colleges, we know:
If the student wants to secure good, any college between the two can be chosen but the student will have to work hard. A lot of effort will be needed in ECE organizations.
PEC University of Technology, which was formerly renowned across India as Punjab Engineering College is among the premier technical institutions of the nation. In fact, back in 1994, it was called the best technical institution India ever had by the National Foundation of Indian Engineers (NAFEN).
In brief, the department of electronics and communication engineering (ECE), which was primarily known as the Department of Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering started with an intake capacity of around 30 students. As the time passed, it subsequently saw an increment to 60 with regard to the competence of the infrastructure, besides the faculty of the department itself.
The intake capacity of PEC Chandigarh has gradually seen an upward slope of 75 students from 2014 - 15 and 120 students from 2016 - 17 onwards. You can check the recent stats of the intake capacity of the institution if necessary.
The department of ECE in PEC Chandigarh is considered to be extremely good. It also has a good placement record.
